    So today my V4 Diavel order was delivered, I took my 1260S in happy to test drive the new bike and take it home. First, if you’re not interested in reading all of it, I came back home with my 1260s. My dealer is a very nice group of guys that really care about what you want and not just selling, I took the V4 for almost an hour and half test ride, comparing the V4 to 1260s is like comparing oranges to apples, I don’t know why Ducati is calling the v4 the new version: 1- torque wise, both engines are two different beasts and set up, the V4 is a smooth linear output, you have to work the engine much harder to get that brutal output you get from the 1260s from the start. 2- seating and position: if you’re looking for a power cruiser, the V4 feels more like a monster than a Diavel, much slimmer, lighter, and more nimble. You feel like you’re more agressive position with the V4, or more fetus position if that make sense. 3- at a certain point I said I need to switch the sport mode riding the v4, after a long ride on my 1260s, to find that I was already in sport mode. Top speed maybe the v4 is a winner, but 0-60 I believe the 1260s will give you much more adrenaline. 4- basically the 1260s is a beast that you need to tame, the v4 is a sleeping beast that you need to wake up. The V4 is tuned more for racing, like beemers almost, 1260s is brutal, more the like the rocket GT and vmax 5- I am sure many people will love the reduced size and the nimble smooth delivery of the v4, that is not me though, I will miss the torque, I love the 1260s and it felt like a downgrade to me, the v4 looks awesome, but also the 1260s is by no means an ugly bike. The L twins is an engine that will be missed. I want to enjoy it more for now. I hope this helps if you’re looking at both bikes.

    I love my 2021 1260s and won't be going for the v4. I love everything about the big twin . My previous bike was a 2021 Triumph Rocket 3r and the Duc thrills me more.

    The best option may be a slightly used 1260s and save around 10k over new V4. Lighter, better fuel range on the twin

    I currently ride a 2021 model, red 1260s and I have an order in for the new red V4 (which my dealer thinks he will get in December). I was sold on the looks, the lighter weight, the service intervals and the built-in sat nav. I love the way the bike is now closer to a naked rather than a cruiser, the slightly further back pegs, the fold-up rear pegs like the original Diavel which gives a cleaner under-seat area and those sexy rear brake lights. Sill not totally sure about the front indicators although, they are growing on me.

    Me and my buddy both just bought these diavel. He got the v4 and i went for 1260s Black and silver yellow. I just love the look. They both great machines and show stealing. I wish they have same infotainment screen on 1260s.

    I love my 2021 1260s to much have done a lot of mods to it and can’t justify this new Diavel as a big enough upgrade. If anything I would buy the panigale v4S or V4R as my second bike to own! 😂

    Seems clear the old Diavel better overall, lighter, and no stupid cylinder shut off, belt drive not chain, lower seat, and more character in styling. Diavel is a muscle cruiser-ish bike for the enthusiast. The V4 is not really an upgrade. Ducati, like so many sports cars, is going the wrong direction. If you love the look, get a V4 Aprilia then.

    Totaly agree. When i sat on the new V4 i felt like i was on R type bike, didnt like it at all. And i skiped the test ride.

    Maybe I missed it but the two biggest factors for me. Pro v4 is 36k major service intervals!! Pro 1260 is exhaust sound. V4 stock sounds terrible and the exhaust upgrade is $$ compared to 1260

    Not sure about the new Diavel v4. It dosnt have the low end torque or the caracter of the 1260. The lines are smoother on the v4 and more angular on the 1260. The exaust sound might be less interesting and the fuel consomption might be around 6,5 l /100 km. If i have the choice i ll be chosing the 1260s .

    Very goood review Am going to save some cash and get used 2021 diavel S , I can see I’ll miss only the multi media which I can use my scrambler 1100 device into it and the screen is a miss thing

    The 520 wet weight is a weird one. That figure is as per Ducati's site, but so is 465 dry. It can carry 5 US gallons (30 lbs), making it in theory 495 lbs wet. Yet in the 'Surprisingly Light' session, they say its curb weight without fuel is 491 lbs, which they say is a saving of 28.6lbs, over the 1260S. Reading between the lines it looks like 465 dry, 491 with oil, brake fluid, water, and air in the tires. And 521 (they say 520), with a full tank of fuel. Their site claims a curb weight of 544 for the 1260S, and so the V4 is 24 lbs (not 28 as they claim) lighter than the 1260S L-twin. Neither light, nor particularly heavy for a muscle bike, but the V4 with lower gearing,. more top-end, and longer rear shock, should make for a reasonable improvement; along with longer valve clearances, better brakes, and lighting - at the cost of fuel economy.

    Didn’t really mind the look of the 1260s, coming from the Diavel starting concept… but the new v4 looks like what it always should have. Like a jacked up super monster.

    Great video learned a lot from it i currently ride Harley touring and my brother mentioned one of these to me. I don't plan on getting rid of my Harley I do a lot of two up riding I would be looking into a used one of these so no v4 I was wondering how the track record is on the 1260 and if any one has rode two up on these bikes. I just love the look of these bikes. Sorry to comment here for questions like this but i have been trying to look around to gather some more information and there is not much around thank you

    Thank you for posting and asking questions. The V4 is much more refined than the 1260 and the pikes peak in particular, the new V4 version is a much more capable bike.

    @@RemboUSMC I am not sure about capable, I drove both for a good bit. It’s two different bikes, the 1260s is more of Harley than the v4 will ever be, from a guy coming from Harley to own the 1260s

    Yes I think it is an upgrade in terms of technology and probably riding characteristics and an engine that won’t be lumpy at low speed but no S version is a marketing problem.

    Fast forward two months later and we find that actually the v4 is 38lbs lighter, has better fuel economy and yes I have a deposit on the new v4.😁

    I test rode a Diavel 1260s, it was nice , but I bought a v4 pikes peak. It’s worth having the v4 just for ease of use low down ,so much smoother. It’s got character too. How you getting on with your pikes peak Rembo? 👍🇬🇧

    Look at it closely. They took the front suspension clamps and all from the XDiavel and merged it with a Diavel. May be the same swing arm too this the shorter wheel base.

    I think they dismissed the 'old' 1260 V2 engines completely because it's becoming nigh impossible to get them homologated for use on the street in Europe, stricter Euro-norms for emissions and all; well, perhaps they could if they castrated the engine to deliver 95bhp or so but that wouldn't sell many Diavels or Multistradas either...

    Nice in depth comparison, but you got a couple numbers wrong: - The euro5 compliant diavel 1260s has 162 hp (+5 hp compared to the 2019-2020 year model). 172 hp / 139nm with a termi exhaust. - The diavel 1260s weights 244 kg wet, 221 dry. In any case, judging by the many comparisons I've seen between the old 1260 multistrada and its v4 incarnation, the difference in performance between this 2 machines will be microscopical and largely dependant on which one has better aerodynamics. I think the new diavel v4 has been priced way too close to a brutale 1000rr, a far more exotic and beautiful bike wich, if totally different, appeals to the same wealthy fuckboy type of consumer.

    You are correct. I had too many tabs open and screwed that one up. Diavel 1260s kerb=247kg/544lbs, V4=236kg/520lbs so yes, 24 lbs or about 10kg. Thank you for the correction.
