The object of this review is to provide useful information. What do I mean by that? Most reviews of the 1299 consist of EITHER some guy on a test-ride regurgitating googl-able statistics OR a former pro goosing it around a track and comparing it to other bikes that had a 1/10th faster or slower laptime. Not to say that either of those reviews don't have their place, but they seem to lack substance that would help potential buyers. In the end, most people are going to buy this bike to on the street AND for more than 15 minutes.
My first piece of advice is to disregard all my opinions. The question you need to ask yourself is "what bike do I want?" Deep down, you already know. It took me a while to decide on the panigale, but in the end it wasn't about "what's the best bike?" it was "what bike do I want."
I've owned this thing for two full riding seasons, and can confidently say that I've put it through enough to develop a long-term logical opinion that's worth sharing.
I'm going to take a different approach to this review, structuring it as the categories of a traditional whiskey tasting. The four main sections of which are "visual Analysis", nose, palate, and finish.
In whiskey tasting, "visual analysis" is pretty self explanitory. The color can indicate wood-type and char-level of the cask and hint at the duration the whiskey has spent in said cask. Swirling the glass will leave "legs" which can give clues to the strength and maturity of the spirit.
For the purpose of a motorcycle review, visually, it's hard to deny that this bike is one of the most beautiful pieces of machinery ever designed. From the beak to the seat cowl, I struggle to find anything displeasing. Digging a little deeper, you can tell that the attention to small details also gives clues to how much thought and effort has been put into this bike's composition. In this case, you can translate that to strength and maturity of the bike. I consider the published technical info to live here, and like I said, I'm not going to waste your time with that.
The only negative from this section would be that abomination that holds your license plate.
Back to whiskey tasting, The nose portion involves analyzing the drink's aroma. You're not getting a full taste yet, but smelling gets you damn close. One of my tricks is to use your hand to scoop up that one drip that always runs down the bottle after pouring a glass. Wipe that drip and rub both hands together to warm it up, and then cover your nose and mouth like you're about to sneeze. You can usually get a slightly different profile than dipping your nose into the glass.
As it pertains to motorcycles, this correlates to the first-ride sensations. These are things that you probably have a good idea of what to expect from the visual analysis step. Footpeg height, aggressive seating position, fantastic acceleration, brembo braking. The first sensation I experienced when I collected my 1299 was, "what have I done?" When you turn the key, you're greeted with a robotic whip from the fuel pump and light show from the TFT Display. The suspense of holding the starter button through the classic Italian start (which equals one eternity) eventually fires the 90* L-twin into a clatter and shake that reminds you how serious this bike really is. It's both impressive and intimidating, and videos don't do it justice.
The bike is super light and flickable. It'll dive in and hug corners, and stand up on the way out. The quick-shifter is fantastic. There's more power than anyone would ever need on the road And the TFT dash display is phenomenal but a little complicated. I actually made an entire video of its features.

My last Ducati was the 848 Evo and I loved it, but that's the thing with Duc's, either you never own them, or you love them. Now I'm looking at another one, I came across your vid... After section 2 of your Scotch comparison, subscribed! I have to agree with Steve, hands down one of the most real and genuine feeling review for this beauty. Also, Nice Baron Sticker!

Moto Dutchman Don't know if you've been asked this before but have you ever ridden a 1199 before and if you have how are they in comparison? Asking because I am considering one of the two.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for ur videos - They have helped me with my 2013 1199 Panigale. It'd almost 10 years old - puts a smile on my face each time I ride it and a grimace each time my mechanical abilities are challenged by it's ability to rattle bolts and nuts loose - safety wiring has helped with that. I also ride my bike on cross-country junkets - third time across Canada and USA. Practical bike = NO fun bike = YES. Scotch tasting and Ducati enjoyment go hand in hand. Again Thank you...

Amazingly good review. I've already known for a while that my next Ducati would be a Panigale, but with all the videos couching it as a thigh burning machine I've been looking for that real rider review instead of the typical "I'm a poor editor who never afford this, but I'll tell you my wisdom from spending 30 minutes on it."

I have owned this bike and traveled long distance too. Approaching 20k mikes in two years...this is a very ACCURATE review. Very Fast bike. Handles like a dream without the Ohlins...expensive to maintain, highly suggest you get extended warranty with any Euro bike. This bike loves track days. It was totally made for the race track.

I really enjoyed your honest review Moto. First video of yours I watched and it certainly wont be the last. Comparing an expensive, refined & beautiful bike to whiskey at first was a bit bizarre but towards the end it just made sense! I agree with the point you had regarding LC and heated grips when compared to the S1000RR although I would argue that I would happily go without for that glorious V-Twin rumble and plenty of torque!

awesome commentary bro. I have a 2015 1199 Panigale R (The Precious), and a 2014 Yamaha R1, and I am so much more comfortable on my Precious than the R1 in ever way. I felt the burn of the heat of the subframe when I rode the bike from the dealer home, but I forgotten about it since then. As for flickability, lightness (except in windy crosswinds), acceleration and comfort in the 170-200+ mph are unmatched... and that in Sport mode. Race mode is just mind blowing. I find that my inner thighs get fatigued after a good long hard ride just trying to hold on from not getting sucked off the bike at the speeds I mentioned. And like you said there are many of bike now that produces similar power, but it's up to the individual taste, finances and riding needs. keep the videos going.

Love the review! I found your channel a few days ago and have been making my way through all the great Panigale videos - you do really great work! Very entertaining to watch, and informative to hear. I dig a lot of the mods you've done - mirrors/signals, tail light, etc. Appreciate all the work you do on putting all this content together for the community! I'm saving for either a 959 or 1299, thus the reason I'm "consuming" all your bike content :) Couple quick questions (and I apologize if someone, somewhere has already asked this): could you comment on the riding position, especially as it pertains to how often you "need" to ride in a tuck or near-tuck to get under the aero break from the front fairing/windscreen? I've seen that you've pegged some longer hours/trips (the snowboard mecca was sweet - btw!), and feel you may be in a better position than most to say at what point the riding position becomes more unbearable than livable, and also at what speed you have to tuck in to hold on. We're about the same height and size (according to what I heard in another vid) - I'm an inch shorter. Thanks again for all the great content! Keep riding!

Awesome - thanks so much for the info! Very helpful! I would normally be riding anywhere from short errands - 10-20 minutes - all the way up to weekend rides of 1-2 hours. Does it seem livable up to that amount of time (normal sportbike discomfort notwithstanding...)? Also been looking at upgrading to the AGV Veloce, which I see you've had for a bit. What do you think of it after riding with it for so long? Thanks again!

Fantastic video. You mentioned that at your height your legs don't hug the hot spots. How tall are you? Thanks

I sold a 2007 ZX6R that I had for almost 10 years. Since the Panigale came out I was in love with the way it looks, nothing else. I still want one, I want one bad. I sold my bike because traffic wants to kill me every other day and I got tired of that so I sold my Ninja. I also felt like I could never fully enjoy the high revving nature of thebike without getting into deep trouble. My finances are not there to buy one, I probably should buy a truck instead and move on with my life. I dont know, I might one day buy one just to keep it in the garage as an Art piece, I think is that beautiful.

Hi, have you riden an MV Agutsa F4? I've heard it shares a lot of characteristics with the panigale, so I'm interested to hear anyones thoughts on how the 2 compare. Thanks!

I'm tossed between this bike and the s1000rr and for the exact reasons you mentioned, but have you actually held a good enough long term relationship with the s1000rr and if so which do you prefer if given to you.

Would you know how the insurance and upkeep costs compare to a Daytona? I have a Daytona and would eventually like a Panigale.

Really nice review! I my opinion two things would improve this (and future) videos of yours: 1) turning off that automatic aperture/iso/whatever is constantly changing your lighting 2) some 3rd person footage of you riding it Apart from this - as i already said - solid review! Keep it going! Cheers.
