Dubois, Wyoming - A Really Neat Town!

We stayed at the Longhorn Ranch just outside of Dubois, Wyoming. We love the campground which was right on the river! The town was quaint, rustic, and very cool.
We are Brent and Gina and we love to travel especially by RV which in our case, is our fifth wheel. We usually take 2 or 3 trips a year ranging from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the trip and how life is going at the time. We would love hear about your traveling adventures so please leave a comment and share.

I rember weltys store from when I was a kid back in the sixtys, there was a big mounted rainbow trout caught by a cool old guy called old man trout out of brooks lake. Him and this other older guy would be the first and last to leave brooks lake every year. The other guys name was red. We would spend two months at brooks lake every summer. Old man trout and red were my friends when I was little, I still miss them after all these years)

Dubois is a great little town. I worked as a bartender at The Rustic Pine Tavern ,the Outlaw Saloon and the Ramshorn Inn back in the late 1970’s. Also worked for the gentleman who owned the rv park before it was an rv park. At the time I lived there it was a Motel. Nice video👍

I hitchhiked through Dubois many times over the years. Met some great people there. The Cowboy Cafe is a good place to eat. They have a real nice library. My book HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER: A HITCHHIKING JOURNEY ACROSS AMERICA is at that library.

You are correct that the French pronunciation of Dubois (dew-BWAH) does not apply to this Wyoming town, but neither does your choice of dew-BOYS. The correct pronunciation is DEW-boys. Any Wyoming resident would have been pleased to give you the correct pronunciation.

If you pronounce "dew" like dew on the grass you still don't quite have it. Doo--as in Doobie Brothers-- boice--as in choice is the correct wrong way it's been pronounced ever since the US Postal System decided that Never Sweat just wouldn't cut it and renamed the town 'Dubois'

I LOVE Dubois!! Have been thru there many times, and 2 years ago I stayed there for a week for Susan K. Black painting seminar, and I also stayed at the Longhorn ( in a room tho). The Cowboy Cafe has the BEST and I mean the BEST pies!! On our yearly drive from staying at Togwotee back home to MI, we would drive thru and I always made my husband stop so I could buy several different slices for the road! But I think their food is very good- you must have had a bad day there. Dreaming of going back!

Dubois is surrounded by an interesting area of badlands that I think is on par with some of the scenery you can find in Badlands National Park in South Dakota. There’s several interesting trails that go into the badlands around Dubois that are worth seeing. The contrast in landscape between the badlands and the towering mountains is a stunning landscape.

Dubois, although not a gate town to Grand Teton/Yellowstone, is still on a major route to get too those two parks, so they take pride in looking "Western". Also lots of very rich folks live in and around Dubois now, since Jackson has gone to the Billionaires.Just thought you should know.

We go here every summer and like to fish. The Wind River is beautiful and with some exploring in the area, there are lots of things to do and places to go. Dubois is not a tourist town, it is a cow town. Don't expect to buy tons of tourist trinkets. The people are friendly and have their own events and customs. Just go and enjoy the scenery and the quiet.

You got it pretty close but when pronouncing the name the emphasis is on the DU and not the boys! I live in Fremont County, Wyoming and hav so for over 60 years and have been to Duois a couple of hundred times, easily! A beautiful town with great people! The Mountain Man Rendezvous they used to have was a great amount of fun, even for those who weren't Buckskinners!
