Urbanisation one of the big megatrend of our time with over half of the world's population now living in cities. Cities are facing serious challenges such as climate change, extreme weather events, traffic congestion and environmental pressure. However the rise of Internet of Things, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Socialand Mobile presents real opportunities to apply these new technologies in a way that can make cities more sustainable, efficient and engaging for residents and visitors alike. With the creation of the Smart Dublin programme in 2016 the city took a significant step towards turning its challenges into opportunities for innovation. Dublin is now leading the way through its collaboration model in how it is bringing together industry, tech companies, start-ups, academia and citizens to realise the smart city opportunity and fast track progress with the creation of its Smart Docklands district.
