Duarte: Variations on a Catalan folk song (played by Alice Artzt - 1973)

Музыка

It was through this piece that I first met John Duarte. He had sent it to Ida Presti for her to put in the fingerings for publication. Then she asked him to send me a copy to play. Since she died before being able to finger the piece, I ended up doing that job, and then meeting Duarte in London shortly thereafter. I still think it is one of his very best pieces, and am happy if my early recording of it helped make it a bit better known.

I was watching your Ida Presti videos these days, for the 2nd time in my life. The 1st time was some 10 years ago, when I didn't understand much. And while I was thinking "well these videos are 11 years old, how might this beautiful soul be doing right now, a full decade later" and here I see this upload. I know that this is an old recording but the action of uploading it alone gave a breath of life to the channel that filled me with joy. I hope you are doing well Alice, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love for the classical guitar and your will to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with us, this is pure gold that we don't deserve, all this wisdom distilled through years of observation and hard work given to us in its purest form, all coming from true love for guitar and us guitarists. God bless you!

Thank you so much for your very kind words. Glad if I can help other guitarists, and since I am still teaching, hopefully get as much info as possible to others.

Many thanks. Yes Jack was always getting people to come to a pub after playing at Wigmore. I think Williams' recording is the only one I ever heard also. Ida Presti was always my inspiration for playing nearly everything - and I did find this piece was a wonderful one. I haven't performed in quite a while, but I am still teaching (only via Skype these days).

@@Guitartzt yes, i do read one of your book about guitar techniques and most articles about you in CG magazines in the early 1980s-90s. I started my guitar playing by listening to Segovia's cassette and Julian Bream and John Williams. They were the ones that motivated me to learn to discover the magic sound of classical guitar.
