DualSense Edge Teardown - Inside Sony's first Pro Controller
Ойындар
Launch day for Sony's first Pro Controller, and i've disassembled it to see what tech and engineering went into such an expensive controller. It's pretty impressive, with some impressive engineering and solid parts.
I'm particularly curious about the swapable analog sticks. Is this the end of broken controllers from stick drift?
What swapable parts will Sony and 3rd parties come out with?

Oh, ya ? Do you even know how much that cost to manifact ? Don't forget, tho !! Sony add some Scripts and some Plastic Shit !! I'm a PS Fan and And I Repair consoles, but this pad should max Cost 80 Euro in the market. And honestly, PlayStation down slowly to the Ring of Death (greed). By the way !! Did you know that Sony pay Capcom a lot of money to refuse the Idea of letting Xbox adding Resident Evil Games to Gamepass ? Otherwise, we could play all new Capcom Games inc (SF6) on Game pass, beside the Problem of (Activation Studio) that running very far. I mean Comeon dude !! a new PS5 game cost 79 Euro !! I guess Sony use fans to build an empire, like making a new console that runs mostly Remake Games. go Get a Xbox Series S with Elite 2 and Game pass ! (400 Euro) and tell me then who need to be the king in this Days.

@@fainted8230 In some ways he is but he's right in the new edge controller is a bit crap, for the price tag you might as well have gotten a scuf and had a better end user experience. If this controller was a game changer I would have considered it because the ps controllers overclock great on pc, it's more of the same with a huge price tag slapped on top, I own a gulikit kingkong 2 and tbh, although in some ways it's inferior to even a normal xbox controller, it didn't cost me £200 for what is basically an incremental upgrade, hell, I thing the elite 2 core is over priced at £110 I think really £90 is acceptable because they don't add that much to a normal controller to charge twice as much, can point to internal battery and new shell but you had to make a shell anyway because you changed the design, the sticks cost an end user £5 each and some time to replace them, the hot swap design here just makes everything else harder to get to and I really don't like the look of the trigger stops. Was hopeful for this controller but it's going to show it's problems in the not too far off future probably.

I've used your videos before to install digital triggers and back buttons on a few of my PS5 controllers. I reached out on one of ExtremeRate's videos and didn't get a response on this topic so I am glad to hear they are working on digital triggers. Digital triggers are much better feeling for FPS games than the adjustable trigger stops that Sony went with on the Edge. I hope they are working on shell replacements too since I don't like the look of a white controller. I hope to pick up an Edge controller this summer so I hope they have at least the digital triggers out by then.

I just ordered a PS5 and a DS Edge from PS Direct last night. I'm honestly WAY more excited for the controller than I am the console. I wanted to wait until BB got their stock of controllers so that I get the totaltech protection for it, but after watching this vid and seeing how easy it will be to swap out stick modules I'm glad I made the order. I plan on using it more for PC gaming than anything else. DSX looks to be a promising steam app that ought to support the Edge for full mapping in the very near future. I imagine that Steam itself will support it soon as well (but likely won't get too much extra functionality from it). I'm excited to see what we can do with this controller once reWASD supports it. Thank you for your teardown video.

One obvious reason. To make sure you always need to replace something, which in turn will make them money.
My guess is that extremeRate is frantically doing the same thing and scanning parts so they can make custom mods for it. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to add two more back buttons or paddles for those that want them. I'm fine with two. But I can't wait to customize the shell's colors and get some grippy texture on it.

It will be interesting to see what mods they come up with. I use their mouse click digital triggers kits in my DualSense controllers, wasn't a fan of extremeRate's back paddle design with the conversion kit they sell. Personally, I wish the DualSense Edge had mouse click hair triggers with the short pull setting rather than just being a shorter trigger stop setting. Trigger stops just aren't as responsive and satisfying, so I will be holding back on this getting an Edge controller at this price point.

No replaceable USB C port, well the base DS5 has the same design, dunno why they changed that from the DS4 with its seperate charging board. Its cool that you can change the stick wo soldering, but cheap drifting sticks in a 200+ Bucks Controller is weak ngl. Great teardown, you disassemble it fast and catch every step, nice work!
Well, had to pause the video because my Edge arrived while I was watching. So, I went to grab it and set it up so I can finally get back to playing CoD tonight since the right thumbstick in my regular Dualsense crapped out on me a few weeks ago. FYI, it already has a tiny amount of drift in both sticks out of the box so I had to adjust the dead zones slightly. Still worth it since I can swap them out and because of the amazing controller options for it on the system. I'm hopeful but worried that Gulikit won't be able to make Hall effect replacements for this because 1) that's a tiny PCB and 2) I see that there are a couple of chips on it that may be proprietary to Sony. Let's hope they can find a way to get the Edge and PS5 to recognize their replacement. BTW, I think I'm going to prefer the half-dome back buttons since I can rest my fingers right below them and there's less chance of an accidental pull.
Wow!
