Surprised she didn’t mention the Kylie Minogue references. Or maybe she did and Billboard cut it. It was a brilliant homage, and she has cited Kylie as one of her biggest inspirations on many occasions. Maybe it was cut because Kylie’s not a huge name in America? Regardless, I thought the ‘All The Lovers’ and ‘Slow’ tributes were breathtaking.

Agreed! However I do believe it's more up to the director (Tanu Muiño) to credit her references as this seems to be a pattern: parts of Lil Nas X's video for Montero she directed were a clear copy of FKA Twigs' Cellophane for example. I understand visual culture ultimately is a copy of a copy of a copy but why not credit like for example science is doing when it's this clear?

I watched the video and immediately thought "Kylie - Slow" and then found out later they shot in the exact same location. Even the tower thing was very much like All The Lovers

It depends, all songs she RELEASES, you might argue. I think she said in an interview that she wrote around 80 - 90 songs for this new album. A lot of songs were pretty bad (her words). Writing a great album is a lot of hard work, in Dua's case it seems she has to write around 90 songs for 15 good ones. Not uncommon for songwriters and it sounds a bit like the famous 20-80 rule.

@@FinR1256She didn’t, but she has a particular video that all the world is aware of, filmed here, similar overhead shots, people writhing in “slow” movements. As well as wearing a Balenciaga dress eerily similar to the dress coverup in Dua’s video.

I was DEF thinking the same. It's not just the exact location and divers that reference one of her old videos. Everything from the outfits to choreography reference her former work in what I thought was beyond intentional and obvious. Im telling myself that billboard just edited that part out of the video.

My boyfriend doesn’t like Kylie at all. He has no idea where the Slow video was filmed. When I showed him Illusion he had no idea where this was filmed. But a few seconds into the video he said: “It looks like that that Kylie video” I was so impressed :D (and he didn’t just say it because of the pool but also the way Dua is moving in the video)

That's so cool! The last time I worked at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC some of the participants from Spain did the Catalan Tower that is being described as inspiration for some of this music video. It's truly amazing to see in real life and is quite exciting to witness. It came across quite nicely in the music video.

I like the video. It's very the vibe of 'Slow' by Kylie Minogue (which was also filmed in Barcelona!) I have to say though her latest stuff is more on the generic side. It's not hitting as hard as the Future Nostalgia era.
