Du-Bro 101 - How To Set-Up RC Airplane Fuel Tanks

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Assembling a Du-Bro fuel tank is not difficult, but you want to make sure that you get everything done correctly. Here is our suggested method for assembling a leak-free tank:
1. Remove the center screw and disassemble the stopper assembly
2. Input a 30-degree bend in the last 3/8" of the brass tube for the vent line. A Du-Bro Tubing Bender (part #785/786) works perfectly for this job.
3. Cut a notch in the end of a short piece of flexible fuel tubing (1/2"-3/4" long).
4. Connect the notched piece of flexible tubing to the bent section of the vent line.
5. Insert the brass tube of the vent line into the rubber stopper.
6. Insert the brass tube of the feed line into the rubber stopper.
7. Use flexible fuel tubing to connect the clunk to the brass tube of the feed line. Size the fuel tubing so that the clunk is near the back of the tank, but does not get stuck in any position.
8. Temporarily remove the flexible fuel tubing from the brass tubing on the vent and feed lines.
9. Slide the rear plastic segment of the stopper assembly over the brass tubing on the vent and feed lines.
10. Slide the front plastic segment of the stopper assembly over the brass tubing on the vent and feed lines.
11. Insert the screw into the stopper assembly and turn it just enough to engage the rear plastic piece.
12. Reconnect the flexible fuel tubing to the brass tubing of the vent and feed lines.
13. Push the stopper assembly onto the neck of the fuel tank. Ensure that the stopper is fully seated.
14. Carefully tighten the screw on the stopper assembly. Do not over-tighten.
15. Perform a pull test on the stopper assembly to ensure that it is securely attached to the tank.
16. Hold the tank up to a light. Verify that the end of the vent line is near the top of the tank. The clunk should be located at the rear of the tank.
17. Install the fuel tank in your model. The vent line is usually connected to a fitting on the engine's muffler. The feed line is connected to the engine's carburetor.

Excellent video. I am working with a used tank and had questions about that 3rd hole, it was just left open and was causing leaks/fuel flow issues. Thank you!

I'm kind of surprised that the tension screw is still of the Phillips type. These have always been notorious for stripping as the metal is rather soft. A simple update to a hex screw would save a lot of frustration.

why do you need to change the stopper if you're using gasoline instead of glow fuel?

The material that they are made from reacts differently to each fuel type. The nitro stopper should only be used for nitro and the gas should only be used for gas.

Question, I want to install a Kwik-Fill on the plane im building. Can I feed nitro through the line with the clunk? If so what would I do with the vent line? Run some fuel line and tack it to the bottom of the plane?

The vent/fill line typically does not have a clunk as it is not needed there. The Kwik-Fill Fueling Valve (if used) has a built in shut off so the fuel will not flow out unless you have the filling probe inserted. If that does not answer your question, feel free to email us at orders@dubro.com or call during business hours at 847-526-2136 and we will be happy to help.

Kwik fills with the compression spring will eventually stick in the open position causing loss of fuel tank pressure.

Can I ask a question ? I have got a vintage can of B.P. Air Speed , National Champion , Model Engine 7 Fuel . I cannot find a similar can anywhere ~ have you ever seen or heard of one & do you have any idea on it's value.

    What kind of fuel?

DU-BRO Fuel tanks work with gasoline or glo fuel. Simply change the tubing to Tygon and the stopper to the DU-BRO #400 tank stopper if using gasoline.

.... and with the IC community thinking about grannies sucking eggs, the glaring issue of how to fit that weird 'step' to a flat bulkhead is totally ignored!

Compression plug tanks, with seams that split and leak? Opaque colored tanks? No thank you. Use the clear screw cap "Fiji" style. Not completely bullet proof but more advantages, Why hasn't Dubro Modernized, are they stupid?

Hi Jeffs, thanks for taking the time to comment. DU-BRO tanks are known throughout the hobby world (and beyond) as an extremely reliable tank that is made to higher standards and by a more painstaking process than most other tank manufacturers. We realize everyone has their preference and we support that. Please know, we take our quality and performance of our tanks very seriously and we work every day to insure our customer's expectations are met and exceeded. Good flying to you my friend!

I have never had an issue with any of the traditional fuel tanks like Dubro's. The fuel tanks are transparent enough to set them up and monitor the fuel level. Why does it need to be clear? And the stopper is a more leak-proof design than a screw on cap. Screw on caps are not normally used unless the container must be opened and closed regularly. Once you set up a fuel tank there's virtually no reason to open it up ever again.
