وكانت احدى تبعات الاحتلال الامريكي للعراق في التاسع من نيسان 2003, الذي ادى الى فوضى كبيرة وسرقات واسعة في مؤسسات الدولة العراقية.
وفي اليوم التالي من الاحتلال اي العاشر من نيسان اقتحم المئات من اللصوص المتحف العراقي الذي ترك من دون حماية.

This crime was one of the consequences of the American invasion of Iraq on the ninth of April 2003, which led to great chaos and massive thefts in the institutions of the Iraqi state.
On the next day of the occupation, the tenth of April, hundreds of thieves stormed the Iraqi Museum, which was left unprotected.
