I have no intentions of building a wall, I don't even know how I got here, but I stayed because you are an amazing teacher!
My dad and I are finishing our basement together (finally) and it was your videos that gave us the courage to do it. Thank you so much, you’re amazing!
You are one of the best teachers on KZread on home renovations, period.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. Really appreciate hearing from our viewers.
Appreciate the pace of information. it's not painfully slow. Gets right to each tip in a natural flow.
8:47 I am in complete shock of this trick! LOVE IT!
This series gave me the confidence to attack a small basement room (5' x 8') for my homebrewing hobby. I had great confidence and all went well until the mudding. I used all the tools and techniques that you described. It sure looks easy when you do it,. When I was doing it that just was not so. I consider myself a handy DIY'er and have done ceramic tiling (backsplash, floors) some framing, hardwood floors etc. I found that there is a need for experience of many hours before an amateur should attempt doing drywall mud. My sesults were not the same as your video. There are so many variables and I think there is little room for eror to get a professional job. The use of the trowel was achallenge as the trowel would tend to wander resulting in ripples. I ended up over applying and generating a ton of dust when sanding it down. Also found manuu pin holes in the mud at my prime check. In the end this experiment has resulted in me deciding NOT to do th erest of the basement. I guess the positive is that Ilearned my limitations on a small project and did not waste my time nad money on a bigger one. Thanks Jeff PS Perhaps there is a video to address some of the issues that DIY'ers will run into? Maybe you have one but I did not see it?
About to tackle a laundry room project. All I can say is you are awesome and have given me the insight and confidence to get it done! Thanks a million! Best regards!
Did a paid job armed mostly with just knowledge from this series. Just wanted to take the time and say that you're super knowledgable and more importantly a great teacher. Thanks!
Thanks for the tips I've been falling all your video's. Just finished bumping my walls out in my daughter's room. It's all diy im a mechanic by day. All your vids are very helpful thanks again!
This is great. He's easy to understand and I am able to get my renovation done myself. Just understand that I'm 64 with only framing experience and never touched drywall. I'm almost finished with my drywall install now. Just a really helpful video.
your videos (including but not iimted to this series) have helped me a lot, really appreciate people like you taking the time to do these, they really empower people to do things they would never have the confidence to try otherwise
Hey man! I can’t thank you enough for these videos. My dad was never taught any of this, hence neither was I! I followed your video on cutting a room before painting (not the name of the video) it saved me time and MONEY by top laying blue tape and it looked phenomenal. I have only gotten better with my painters brush and I feel like I am doing it right for the first time! Again, thank you!
Thanks so much for making this series of videos. I followed your steps to drywall a loft space above my garage to be used as an office space. Your method is easy to follow and gives a lot of practical detail. I'm really pleased with our result and I saved a ton of money doing it myself.

Awesome series on drywall. Very professional video and an engaging personality. I like how you go into the details that novices need - and that other hosts assume all know. I look forward to viewing your other series'. Keep up the great work.
I like your videos because they are clear and concise. Not a lot of fluff but straight to the point. Your framing videos are excellent too! 👍
I'm building a small office in a shed and your videos are so much help... Thanks man you're a rockstar!

Too True. Unfortunately these guys usually get buried in the search results the younger retard crowd who have no clue what they are doing.
These instructions and explainations are so in-depth and far reaching. Thank you for the beginner insights. Can't wait to watch the rest of your series.
ive been watching your videos every day for the last week and the way you explain and teach in your videos is hands down the best!!!!!
As always great video! I really appreciate you guys taking the time out to show us DIY'ers how to correctly do these installations. Also the little tips are very good knowledge that only an experienced person would know. So again thank you! And God bless!
Awesome. The "which screw to buy" alone is worth it!
Awesome! Who’s needs a man when I got a man teaching me on KZread 😂😂😂😂
Jeff-"So first of all, let's talk drywall turkey....gobble gobble" (kidding) This is the coolest vids I've seen in a while.Cheers!
This is the exact series that I needed for my next job. Thank you!

Thanks for the comment Randolph, we have a ton of videos in production as we speak. New releases every week on Saturday at 9:00 pm
Veru useful info. The best part, no useless info. All about trade and tricks. Very good explanation. You could be a great trade teacher.
Always learning something here. Thank you for saving me from making loads of beginner mistakes!
Start to finish - best diy series I've seen. I just retrofitted the drafty extension on a 125-year-old house in time to surprise my Dad when he arrived for Christmas. The result was eyes-wide "Wow!" Proper priming and a good coat of paint hide my first attempts at plastering :-) Your tips really reduced the aggravation of a first-timer tacklinga tricky job single-handed. Thank you for the personal responses to my questions - you got me past the most intimidating moments! And I won't avoid the next plastering job.

This guys is GREAT with the nuances and details as he talks you through. Well done!
Just started to renovate my house , your video's with a lot of tips , are very helpful
I'm enjoying and learning from these....well done...I'm reviewing each step as I progress and I've done this before ....
Thanks for the tips. As a retired safety guy, some eye protection & a dust mask are recommended. I am in the midst of building a new cottage & hoping to start the drywall soon. Electrical is almost completed by certified electricians.
Super impressed by the details of explaining keep it up you got me on the team !!!!!!! Subscribed and bell approved
Really helpful. Thanks for the laid back but informative presentation.
Great and informative channel. Great guy who explains well and gets to the point. Keep up the good work :)
Great job on the video series. Very helpful!!
Hi, After many years ot learning from the internet, I've never made a comment until now. Awesome videos, great teacher... just wish I'd discovered this at the start of building my own house and not at the finishing stage.

you have the most informative videos for DIY I have seen on KZread Thank you
What if I cause a small crack while screwing it on but doesnt break through the paper?...can mud reinforce it well enough?
Great videos Jeff! If the bottom edge of installed sheetrock is making contact with a concrete floor the full length of a room (garage), do you have tips or technique to remove 1/2" or so from the sheetrock?
Jeff, Thanks for taking the time in putting these video's together. I viewed the entire serials for installing drywall. It was tremendously helpful. I have a couple of questions. I am renovating my master bathroom and will be surrounding it with tile halfway up the wall (shower will be using kerdi and fully tiled). They are 8 ft walls. I was wondering what to do with the taper edge of the drywall that is at the bottom so there isn't a deflection. Any ideas? My other question is what do you do when the taper edge of the wall joins the factory edge of the ceiling. Do you fill in the taper? Thanks again! Jim
Thx Professor . St. Louis Missouri. Historic century plus old house that Jack built.❤
Hello Jeff, my mom and I love watching your DIY show. Thank you for all you do. We have some questions if you could help advise please. We are adding a non baring interior wall and door for a third bedroom. The door we have is 79" and the arch starts at 72". We removed trim and found the walls are plaster. The house was built in 1914. We are hesitant to remove the plaster on the arch as we don't want to cause damage to the remaining walls. Does it make sense to only remove what"s needed for door frame clearance? Or should we remove all plaster and arch and then frame for wall.
Another great video from the building master professional.
Another great video! I used this video when I did my basement bathroom. Very helpful.
I just bought a town house 2 years ago I cant afford a contractor so I'm deciding to do it myself (with a little assistance of my son) This was so helpful Thanks
I am motivated! This is a good teacher. Thank you.
man, this is great instruction, thank you so much for making these vids
hey thanks for all your tips , such a difference in my work . John
Would like to see a video of hanging drywall on ceiling up next to a wall that has a 45 degree angle. What's the tips and tricks to doing that
This is really nice, I enjoyed every bit of it
Good tips all around. Clear and straight up instruction. 🤙
Concise and packed full of great info. A real gem. My one criticism is the music. I'm trying to listen to what you're saying. Anything else is just a distraction.
Any differences in the drywall process when adding new drywall to old (specifically closing in a doorway). same process of hanging, tape and mud?
I wish every craftsman had the insight and common sense that you do ! Good job and thanks for all the usefull info :)

Thanks for a great video. By the way, why did you use strapping on the ceiling? Why not just attach the drywall to the joists?
Thanks for the great video, I have gained more confidence. I will buy the same tools as yours plus a drywall lift since I am working by myself.

Definitely a good idea to have a lift. I wish you great success.
Ive got a question on the 1/2" 4' x 10' or in general All sheetrock sheets. Do both ends taper or do they sell sheets where only one side tapers?
Thank you for making these videos. For those of us that are trying to save money we dont have.
I watched mos of videos, but yours i like the way you explained it...I clean my doble door garage and it have no insulation...but is just cetment on wall and floor...pls tell me what size and mesuament Woods to buy for framing and then put insolation. Thanks

I have watched all 13 episodes and I doubt that I have ever seen a better "how to video!" Too bad for me that there was not an internet when I finished two basements years ago. I could have reduced my dry wall time by 70% or more. As a one man crew, I had to "invent the wheel" on the means to lift 4x8' sheets up to the ceiling!

We have all been there Ray. That is one of the reasons why I love doing these videos so much. Try to help others so they can learn from my pain.
That cauterising wood piece trick was really neat

I've worked with a lot of screws in my life, that is not good advice.
Thank you your videos great and helpful
Hey, great videos throughout. What screws did you use for that corner wrapping in 8:12 mark? Same self tapping screws?
So here I go! I’m starting the drywall replacement after roof leak throughout the house. Any suggestions on how to remove the drywall on the ceiling without 3 feet of blown in new insulation falling on your head? Hmmm maybe a 1x2 strip of wood with a plastic tarp attached to it. Open long side of seams, and remove screws. Slide the strip of wood over the underside of the drywall, between the insulation and the back of the drywall and tack to the ceiling. Hopefully that might catch a big portion of it. Don’t know what else to do.
I appreciate the easygoing layout of your steps and tricks.

Hi luv ur video! How much do u think it would cost to do a laudry room 7 x 4? Adding dry wall to all 4 walls...adding a ceiling w recess lights x 2, installing floor and door? TIA
I am new to DIY and saw lot of your KZread video. You are true inspiration for beginners. I am going to start building a partion wall in couple of month. I doing my prep work. Any help or recommendation would be much appreciated. Thanks

Old school electricians had a trick they would use on apprentices they didn't like to help teach them proper safety. If the apprentice would ask them if the power was off, they would answer "yes". It didn't take long for the apprentices to learn to double check the power on wires.
Hey Jeff, I’m just about to hang drywall in my basement. I’m thinking of getting a mix of 4 x 8 and 4 x 10 sheets. I’m not sure if I should bother with the 10 footers since I’ve strapped and framed at 16 inch on center. That said I want to avoid as many butt joints as possible. I can’t consider 12 foot sheets as an option since I can’t get them down the stairs. What do you think? Thanks Jeff! Keep doin’ what you do!!
thanks for the good tips man!
Do you have to use strapping in between drywall and the ceiling?
Jeff, if I'm installing a drop ceiling, do I do that first or the drywall walls? I'm guessing walls come first. TIA
Shouldn't you go clockwise with the rotary tool in drywall? Wouldn't that keep the tool pushed against the outside while its cutting?
I’m an electrician, my eye started twitching when you said you cut the wires in the fixture bahahaha

@lonewanderer958

Charina Del Rosario aslong as theres no power to it, get a voltmeter and check
If I'm mounting the rock to metal Hat Channels, do you recommend using the fine thread drywall screws? Thanks.
how important is the insulation between the hvac runs and electrical? Ive never seen that done, if your wire is separated a bit and not touching the runs is there any long term issues?
Drywall hanger here 25+ years experience....you don't always run your router aka cutout tool counterclockwise. On electrical boxes and window frames with trim yes, but on inside doorways and a window without trim such as a wrapped window you can run it clockwise and it will ride along the wood(residential) or metal (commercial) and make a clean cut.

Also, spend $120 and get a cordless drywall gun for heaven's sake!
I see your using metal electrical boxes. Can you use a root zip on the plastic/fiberglass boxes.
Nice drywall tips
what do you mean with "ceiling first"? I think bottom, wall, and ceiling.
Hi, you seem to use drywall screw for the ceiling stripping. Is it find to use this type of screw.
Thoughts on hanging the drywall vertically for walls less than 4 feet wide
Very good vídeo !

Did you end up finishing the basement... How did it go?
Hi, Great video, I do have a question. I bought an older mobile home (1,400 sq. ft.) I am thinking about replacing the panels in all rooms with drywall. I am so want to replace all insulation in the walls. Do you think this is a good idea or not. Would this help lower the air conditioning bill? Where would I find someone to do this kind of work? Handyman or Drywall installer? Thanks Tom
