Future reference on the dry locking process it is best to use straight Drylok for a primer then switch to your main color of the body and then switch to your accent colors a really good way for coloring the Drylok is folk art acrylic paint much cheaper and multiple colors I use greens Browns oranges and yellows for algae I used white to tip all my edges that's giving it a more 3D textured effect and black foreshadowing very nice though I love your background they are quite unique as is every DIY background I'm making one for a shrimp guppy mourning gecko African dart frog enclosure using 40-gallon breeder 2 sheets PVC half-inch thick as the back in corner wall 2 piece of quarter inch plexiglass has the front and side sliding panels for entry the entirety of it will be 52 and a half by 35 three working waterfalls and a solar-powered weather system for misting the pond at the bottom will be 9 and 1/2 in deep the rest will be all dry space aside from running three waterfalls that funnel to two nice work man it's people like you who have inspired me to do this kind of thing

Do you inoculate the wood in any way? It looks like you collected it yourself. I would like to do this, too, in order to save money, but I don't want any destructive microorganisms or fungi to become established in the tank.

When getting drylok is it a specific kind good for animals? And the color, what did you ask for to color it that is safe for plants and animals?

I simply used Original Drylock basement and masonry waterproofer, and I had the store emloyees color it grey. Then I used Quikrete charcoal and terra cotta liquid cement color to add more natural colors. The channel Troy Goldberg's Tropical Garage uses this same method with dart frogs. I believe this is safe for reptiles and amphibians. I have had absolutely no issues with it in my green iguana's enclosure, and it has been working great.

Why must you drylok your expanding foam? Is it necessary, if so why?

Depending on the expanding foam you use, most isn’t actually water proof. If you do use waterproof expanding foam, but you carve it, the inside isn’t water proof and needs to be protected. Personally, I use different levels of tinted drylock to paint since if I use acrylic paint to paint it, I’d have to seal it after anyway and I find it a 2-1 deal to seal and paint at the same time!
