Couple things… “some guy” who did videos on trying to cure dryrot, he’s chief in this vintage clothing game. Check out his podcast. All of it. Ryan and Rally as a company are awesome, but Drew is the MFin guy. Next; plenty of black shirts that are used can dryrot. Telling people that it’s only deadstock is superrrrr misleading. It’s by not washing it regularly, any black and rare cases of super dark purples. Next up, it’s not just 90s? Lol. There’s plenty of era that dryrot, the sulfur thing is accurate but I’d love to hear who told you it’s only 90s black deadstock tees.. Last thing, did you sell dryrot shirts??? Like, that’s a cardinal sin of this business. Doesn’t look like y’all are vintage experts, which is fine, but I don’t flip certain things because I don’t know enough or have time to learn. Come on…

Didn’t sell it and wouldn’t sell a dry rot shirt because that would be unethical and when researching we only found a few sites thats main point was the deadstock black shirt from the 90s. Not trying to mislead people more or less inform people on something we had never seen

Washing a deadstock t-shirt once neutralizes any further damage from acidity. It doesn't persist through the lifetime of a black t-shirt - otherwise, we'd see a huge decline in the number of black t-shirts in circulation. It is a myth that black t-shirts need to be washed regularly to avoid dry rot. If a black shirt has dry rot but it's not deadstock, the damage occurred when it was deadstock. Remember, there are different stages of dry rot. Even the stage before it becomes easy to tear, there's likely been irreparable damage to the fibers which makes it weaker over its lifetime. This explains how a used tee seems to have dry rot - as the issue will actually present itself later, when you add in regular wear, and washes. We seen cases from the late 1980s, 1990s seem to be hit the hardest - and it appears to be happening to 2000s tees too. I think Drew even found one from the 2010s?!

@@Defunkd I have a vintage 1996 slayer shirt that’s dead stock, winterland tag and it doesn’t have dry rot, is it because of the preshrunk cotton? I tested the shirt and it’s still stretches

@@6ix9vi6 It's not all black tees, just certain ones that used a particular ink. But you might consider testing it for ph and just soaking once.
