Eventually, all curious creek fishermen discover Brook Trout on the fly. This is the benchmark by which you will measure every creek or cold-water river, every rocky pool under shade trees, and every work of art God blesses you with on your flies. This is the creek fisherman's cathedral.
Prettiest fish in Appalachia. Same type creeks I fish so Hats Off to ya for fly fishing those tight spaces, it can be frustrating. The underwater footage was your best yet! Thanks for taking me along, your enthusiasm makes me smile.
Im blessed to have these very unique fish very close to my house.
this is the most gentle handling of fish I've seen from John 😅

Native brookies are jewels, thanks for treating them as such👍
Enjoyed the video! Underwater footage was great and scenery was beautiful. Thanks for sharing 🎣❤️
This was incredibly fun and interesting. What an afternoon.
Those were some beautiful fish, glad you were able to catch some!🎣
Those wild brook trout are beautiful. I’ve been itching to go trout fishing for a minute, this video really makes me want to go. Thanks for sharing brother.
Ah, just like the mountain in northern PA. Native brookies. Good memories. Thanks
I fly fish and I fish lots of small streams, but I never have had much luck fly fishing forested streams. My hat is off to you both for not spending all of your time catching branches.
Being a western North Carolina local, I was so happy by the way he pronounced Appalachian 😂 Great video!
Great video John! Great to see you try the fly rod, it’s so relaxing to fish that way! I’m actually heading to N.C. next week on vacation with my wife, and we have a guided full day of trout fly fishing booked out of Blowing Rock. I can’t wait to get back into the mountains on those streams! Super video of those gorgeous fish underwater too, a total game changer on your videos! God Bless!
Gorgeous scenery my man, enjoyed it! Great seeing you treat those fish friends well.....
It's amazing how effortless the fish make it look staying in the current.
Brook trout are such a beautiful fish species ! My son and grandchildren catch them out of a little creek, out behind their house in Far North Idaho. Glad you had better luck this time. Always be careful. Pap Blevins
John that's where I grew up in the mountains catching native brookies .we call them native here we have creeks you can step amd pee across that produce 12 14 inch fish even seen 1 18 out of there the other Creek is deeper and wider iv seen 20 inchers out of there 17 was my best .thanks man I needed to see that again
What an awesome looking fish.
John keep up the good work with your editing and music. Production value is really helping your grow. All our best! God continue to bless!
Speck trout fishing is a lot of fun. That was some pretty water and quite big for specks.usually we catch them in tiny fast moving clear brooks that are under 4 ft wide. That one fish spilled his guts with his biggest secrete. These fish will hit every strand lizzard/ salamander or whatever you want to call them that they can find. If you are having a tough day when they are refusing dry flies or nymphs look at a forward weighed black wollybugger. The fish can see it as a salamander and it can save you from being skunked.
Beautiful fish! Again great footage, especially the underwater with the trout.
So glad to see you fly fishing! These wild brook trout are spectacular. The underwater footage is awesome. Hope you will do more with the fly rod in the future.
My favorite kind of fishing
Been wondering when you would do a trout video John,....thank you for doing one. This is my favorite type of fishing to do for Trout. I used to fly fish for them but I prefer spinning tackle though. The places these little fish inhabit are some of the prettiest in the S. E. These little native Brookies are the most beautiful fish in the country I think. Glad you had a good trip and hope you make another one soon. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Cool video John , very different from your usual videos. Beautiful scenery, cool drone footage. Very successful day of fly fishing.
Cool video John. Fly fishing for is something I always looked to do. God bless you and your family and friends...🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
Man....purdy little native trout, huh. Good deal. I'm sure that was a great time. Fish on. Go Dawgs.
I've been coming up to the Southern Appalachians from the bayou country for the better part of 20 years now; I'm so much in love with the area and the fishing, particularly the brook trout, that I bought land in the area. There's just something about it all - the combination of the setting plus the beautiful coloration of the "specs" that makes it so special.
Now we talking!!! Nothing better than fishing the mountains!!

Excellent video. I have always heard that Brook Trout are actuly a species of Char left behind from the last ice age.
You have a huge following in Western NC, we love trout fishing. Need to do more trout fishing, even hatchery supported will get a ton of views, Thanks for sharing John be safe!!!!
Love the intro music 🎶 🙌
Brookies are the most beautiful fish God created
Was this in Graham County (Robbinsville area)? Your next trip head to Big Snowbird. Best trout fishing in WNC. Enjoy your vids keep them coming.. Stay safe
Great job John ... brook trout are a beautiful fish to catch ... that chartreuse humphy you were using as a fly will also catch panfish in those small creeks you fish, I have caught alot of panfish on that fly ... I noticed your fishing buddy was doing bow and arrow casts ... that fiberglass rod will really flex alot to give you a great bow and arrow cast ... It didn't look like you swapped out the fly line you had on your combo for the 3 wgt fly line I sent you ... that 3 wgt Rio Creek I sent you is really designed for those small creeks and will do a great job ... I have it on mine and my wife's 3 wgt fiberglass rods and have been pleased with it ... let me know if you have swapped it out and what you think about it ... one thing about those fiberglass rods ... you have to slow your casting down and let the rod do the work ... with graphite fly rods and graphite conventional rods you can really muscle the rod ... with fiberglass and bamboo rods you have to slow down and let the rod do what it will do, you really can't muscle them ... keep up the good work
This seems right up your alley Jon. Pretty cool. Something neat about catching a native species in such wonderful surroundings.
I can tell you are new to brook trout, but keep them in the water right after you net them. They are very easily harmed. Love the video.
Fly fishing for bream (bluegill) is amazing. West Tennessee at Reelfoot Lake; well known for crappie, large mouth bass, and blue gill.
I live out in Weaverville NC pt, I used to live off the greenway in Cleveland when I first bumped into you. You're a great example of a good fisherman
That’s a beautiful fish ! I catch rainbows before but never brokies 😢
Beautiful fish!
Funny thing is a 10 inch brook is a trophy in our waters.
Awesome video! I just got back from a trout fishing trip with some guys from my church it was a great time but it was a stocked river! Would love to try something like this!
Beautiful stream and fish, not what you usually catch, that's what makes it interesting
Great video beautiful place
Theres some really good brooks if you go further up the Tuck if you can find some spots in a bend with around 5 ft of water
Awesome, John! never would have guessed fish to be in a tiny creek like that! Once again, you taught me something and the learning never stops! Thoroughly enjoy how much my own fishing has improved from watching your videos! THANK YOU!! :-)
I always look forward to your videos, keep it up!
Great job on this one as well keep up the great work
Love this video, great work!
Nice brook trout.I never tried fishing with a fly rod.look like fun Thanks 👍🙏
Love the trout videos brother
Nice stream! This is what I do, mountain creek fly fishing excursions for Trout
Awesome John!😎👍
Love to see more Fly Fishing Adventures.
Many of your creeks would be good places to fish with a fly rod. Bass and bream would be all over a popper or a wooly bugger.
I'm an older fisherman and I was wondering what ever happened to trying one's best to remain as quiet as possible while fishing?❤👏🏻👍🏻❤

Good point! A lot of fishermen completely forget about that...annnnd then they wonder why they don't catch more fish. If you're wading a stream, a creek, or a river, for example, you carefully, and SLOWLY move forwards, instead of pushing ahead with such force, that you scare every fish within 50-100 feet of your location. Believe me, and I'm quite sure that you already know this, but vibrations of people, who move through the water in a careless, and loud, splashing mode of travel, carry a lot farther than people might think. That's one thing that I was taught, early on...move forward SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY! It won't spook the fish nearly as much, as somebody who splashes their way through the water, whether they're moving upstream, or downstream! Using caution, and being as quiet as possible, is the key to successful fishing, when wading!

I’d say we did pretty well while enjoying it and talking, different types of streams you might need to be more stealthy

With these fish talking is not as damaging as putting yourself into a position of making shadows on the water. Camo and low profile are a must.
If you’re ever up in southwestern Ohio I know a ton of good creek and river spots. I also have a boat and run up the Ohio into a couple smaller rivers… lots of excellent fishing. If you’re interested you can hit me up and I’ll show you around. Keep up the good work bud!
this was upscaled creek fishing - great you went purist and used flies - they worked, some pretty fish even if not the most challenging #mountain chubs #freshwater bonefish #hellbender baby
I have a close friend that has done this kind of fishing all his life. I DON'T get it myself. Too much trouble for too little fish! Lol 😅 BUT they are beautiful to look at. Great video, John
Brother John, I think I remember the last time you went fishin' for Brookies, and I don't remember you doing very well. That being said, you did a lot better this time around! Go get 'em, my man!!!

Beautiful fish and video John.
Awesome been there done that
Great practice for fly rod fishing would be a pond you know is loaded with sunfish! Maybe the mill house/ intown pond you and Chris fished early this year.
Wonderful video. I’m a (PT) commercial fly tyer from NC working on developing some feather trout+crappie jigs for ultralight spinning gear. I’d love to get some sent out to you if you’d be interested in giving them a try. Thanks, Joe.
Hey I’m a NC guy its fun fly fishing
#789👍🏻🎣👀 You're getting warmer...
Nice! I'm impressed with your fishing skills you always make fly fishing look easy. The water looked perfect for fall. That brookie at 13:10 was probably close to monster size for that water. But tell us the truth, did you wish you had some spinning gear?

From bass tournament to brook trout fly fishing!? Man you're covering all the bases.
John, you should come up to Wisconsin, we have 2000 trout stream and most are Brookie streams! One time me & my buddy caught our limit of 10 Brookies that average over 16” and the largest was 19.5” the biggest stream brookie the biggest I ever caught. Come up to brookie heaven? 😎 PS I caught 4 or 5 lb out of Lake Michigan

I don't know if you have a good rod for streamers. Small mouth fishing with a 6-7-8 weight fly rod is a blast. I usually fish the cumberland river in southeastern ky.
Been excited for this one! I love this intro music

I have done a few but not a lot
Can't fool me , I know those are creek chubs.
The brown and brook trout that I catch do not sit there, gasping for a minute after I release them, but quickly swim off. I suspect you may be taking them out of water, and/or handling them a bit too much, which is impairing their ability to escape upon release. That would especially be true if this was a hot summer day and the water temperatures are up. Northern trout anglers will not even fish a stream if the temperature is too high because of the danger of harming the fish.
cooooool u flyfish. Soooo wich method do u prefer flyfishin or rod and reel?
