Viewing this whole series has been a phenomenal experience, but on this particular episode, that swinging 30 ton anchor had my pucker factor maxed out! Gawd almighty!!!

Wow. It's so weird seeing the ship I watched on Carrier being put back together after hard times like that. Good job team!

Very informative and entertaining video. Just a peak at the amount of work done on these mammoth ships. My hats off to the workers in the dry docks. Nice to see that these important jobs haven’t been outsourced to foreign countries to save costs.

I can relate to this you tube series I was aboard the USS FORRESTAL CV59 as a junior enlisted when it waa in Philadelphia Naval Shipyard then the USN decided to reclassufy her as AVT59 and ultimately removed from naval service and I waa PCS'ed to USS ENTERPRISE, which went to Newport News shipyards NN is such a dump, but I was CAP'ed aboard as a AT3. In tge episode where tge sailor was moved to USS GEORGE BUSH, I waa coming back from a deployment on USS BENFOLD DDG65 and expected to go to CMS shipyards but was told I was going to the USS STOCKDALE because they had lost their Independent Duty Intelligence Specialist, IDIS, so I went on their first deployment to the western pacific and dealing with the PLAN and PLAAF.

My Uncle Timothy Washam is class clown but as you can see he is also pretty dam smart

I worked in a shipyard that built the USS New Jersey BB62.

All the jigs, tools, stands and the rest have to stored away until the next Nimitz class SLEP. Think of that when you wonder what is inside all those buildings in a navy shipyard.

...perhaps... I was in 6, & did 1 Westpac as an “Airdale”, on “Connie” . Taught me a lot of things...professionally & otherwise. We caught the after tail end of the ‘Nam war’ . Got to Hong Kong, Singapore, Karachi, & the Straits of Hormuz. Our home away from home was Subic Bay, PI. Survived 2 Cyclones, where we experienced waves of unimaginable size...the hangar bay doors were closed to keep stray monster waves out...seriously. NEVER got seasick, so this former ‘polliwog’ knew he was a true sailor... yea, we crossed the equator for the ceremony only. I look back & am thankful for ALL the adventures. But, saw soo many unfaithful hubbies... I refused to re-up T cruise end.

We need new ships. Many more missile frigs for sure to protect our carriers, subs as well

Only problem with that, is another country would attack us instantly and you would not even have regular rights never the less medical coverage. Our military is the single largest deterrent to violence. Which I know is odd to understand how one of the most destructive forces in the world keeps the peace.

+Andy Bogandis Oddly, the rest of the world doesn't waste as much money as the US enforcing it's wishes on everyone else, but they aren't attacked immediately. The rest of the world practices a thing called diplomacy, something the US never really cottoned on to.

My first Nuke Submarine - USS Pargo (SSN-650) had white Engine Room Bilges. Took extra cleaning, but we were all proud of them!

"Inside the back of the ship"? How about "Inside the stern of the ship."

I just wonder where all the officers are.... Didn't see any from the first Episode. Only one time the captain. Where were they sent? Training??

When I was Active Duty USN, we had a program called BennySug, short for Beneficial Suggestion. If you provided a suggestion that truly saved the Navy big bucks, you received a monetary reward. I'm thinking your suggestion should be prepared for presentation to USN, and if it's as you claim, and you could be given exclusivity and make millions! Is there any particular reason why you wouldn't do that?

Your “fixture” would weigh a ton (literally) and still require the same amount of man power and equipment. They would have to lower one yellow link on one side, one white link on the other, and one red connection link in between them . What exactly are you saving..... Beside the comment of “their best was enough “ is about putting these link together usually requires a whole work group of sailors and here you just have two guys and a fork lift

This video shows the reasons why we NEED more carriers!!! Repairs and training keeps the carriers from doing their jobs around the world! Which is why we need more to keep our country and the world safe!!! A tax paying Army vet!!!

Everyone pays taxes. The rest of our interior infrastructure is suffering because half of the government budget is spent on military.

Brian Graves You are correct, but we pay blood too! Disabled USMC Veteran. Why is Detroit's infrastructure non existent? The same reason Allentown, Pa. is. We just could not wait to bid ourselves out of a job. Former UAW at Mack Trucks plant 5c and Macungie. I will only buy Japanese autos as they are superior to "American" badged but Mexico made cars. "Proudly made in North America!", Mexico is in norte america.

Those carriers were paid for by taxation of good mfg jobs. But those are gone. Rich CEOs are few and are able to hide from taxes. So the tax base is gone. So deficits and dept are piling up. The days of Amerca's power are coming to and end, just like the ussr's did. First they will cut down to 8 carriers, then 4 or 5, while China will overtake with 10 or even 20. They have the mfg jobs to tax to fund their military. Once mfg is gone, you don't have economic power anymore. Selling cdos and derivatives makes bankers rich, but not countries

Yea what about it? That's why they make fresh air respirators, also these type of shipyard jobs are not for the smooth hand crybabys.

BTW.. C/740... were not contractors... pls get it right :)

Thank god we still have enough mechanical talent in America to repair these ships and not job it out to India or China. But If I was the foreman here, I would not have what seems to be a 4 to 1 ratio of guys with finger in ass and the one actually working. Hey - then we could repair 3 ships for the cost of 1. Or put those idle three to work building a new one.

Richard - I worked at that shipyard for nearly four Years as the Assistant Submarine Repair Superintendent. I have also worked at numerous other Repapir Yards. PSNS is one of the most efficient! Re your point... take line handling. Need three or four workers at specific times. During idle times in between, you can't send these guys off elsewhere!

I love watching these type shows , but are giving our enemies info that they need ? You know the Chinese are studying these in stop motion . Maybe that is the reason soon after we have something then everyone else has the same thing .
