    I restarted my beard journey October 13th, Since then I’ve been making sure I drink plenty of water along with actually being consistent in taking care of my beard. I used to drink a gallon of sweet tea a day since I started drinking a gallon of water instead I can honestly say my beard feels and looks way healthier.

I have changed my routine for about the last month or so, one gallon of water daily has made a big difference in my beard and also I have recently been using Detroit Grooming Company Corktown beard butter in my grooming, the butter IS in a league of their own, great stuff and I wish I would have used it earlier, all I can say about their butter is "wow", amazing stuff. Great advice! Wanted to add my two cents as someone who suffers from psoriasis ( extremely dry skin). For anyone who implements these tips but still struggle with dryness, try adding some butter to your routine in the afternoon as well as at night. Great video Dan. I can definitely say because of the increased water intake I have noticed the difference in beard. The other tip that made a big difference was putting the oil on a damp beard. I used to pat dry my beard completely before putting oil and balm in my beard. After watching some of your videos and doing the oil in the damp beard it made a huge difference and I also switched to butter because of your videos. I'm still tinkering with the beard wash and have yet to find the daily one but I have an idea for the next one to try thanks to your channel. As always thank you for the great tips and advice.

    This is a fantastic video, Dan! Lots of great info. My spouse and I live on a farm on the shores of Lake Huron (Canadian side), about 25 min drive from Port Huron, Michigan. For anyone that calls the Great Lakes home, you know how brutally insane the winds that come off the lakes can be, especially this time of year. The air gets sooooooooooo dry! With my current routine, it seems I can only achieve a soft, manageable, comfortable beard for about two to three days out of the week during the winter months (if I'm lucky). I'm definitely going to take your advice and report back in a few weeks. Also, one other tip that I find improves things at home: running a humidifier 24x7 helps with keeping the static down (especially if you are one to use heat when grooming). Thanks again, Dan!

    I'm 3 hours south of Port Huron. Right now we're getting lake effect weather from either Lake Erie, or Lake Michigan depending on which way the wind blows! Couple that with this week being deer gun season here in Ohio & spending all daylight hours in the woods with this wind I swear I can feel my beard break off with every gust! Not only is the air disgustingly dry, but I don't think folks in warmer climates realize that it's easier to dehydrate in colder temperatures up here than it is in the heat of the summer! We added a humidifier to our furnace last spring. Best move we ever made! Stay warm my friend!

    Hey Dan been watching for years. Some feedback, it would be nice to see some beard/beard oil studies in the videos, kind of how Jeff Nippard does with weight lifting.

  • @DanCBearded

    @DanCBearded

    Жыл бұрын

    Oh man, I have tons and tons of videos with peer reviewed journals. That’s kind of my thing lol the difference is there are only so many studies on beards. Something like weight lifting has wayyy more studies because there is more money in that industry and it’s been around longer (US beard products industry started in 2011). But when applicable, I always include studies. Here is just one example: A Beard Growth Oil that Actually Could Work!? I Made It - “Accelerator” kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZGVks5J9pdnHZM4.html

    Great video as always Dan For the water intake, I agree 100%. Even though this is my weaker area, I still have noticed drastic differences in my beard and body health. My goal is to constantly drink 80oz a day. For the beard butter tip, I 100% agree. My beard feels amazing and soft after I wake up in the afternoon (I work graveyard shift lol). When I comb through it, the comb goes through like butter (pun intended lol). For the beard oil amount, I can attest to your beard feeling oily if you use too much. When I first started using oil daily, I was using too much, and I could easily wipe off excess oil of my beard. For the beard wash, I also agree with what you mentioned. The only thing I'd add to your tip is if you work out and sweat every day, make sure to wash your beard after, I personally use a daily gentle wash then once a week I hit my beard with a nice stripping wash before work (Usually on my Monday).

    Just wanted to comment, I've growing my beard since i was 19, it's matured alot over the years (I've trimmed and cut many, many times). But now at 28, I'm liking the length I'm at (around 8") but I started noticing breakage. Small, little ends of hairs when I brushed. Up until this point in having my beard, I've only just this week started getting serious about taking care of it. I have a decent beard, but I feel like i can finally get thay longer length with proper care. I used beard oil, maybe once a day four days a week this whole time. Lol. Anyways, I found your videos and have kinda been binging them learning. Like, I didn't know you were supposed to apply beard oil to a damp beard. All these years. Lmao. Well, thanks for the content. Gonna keep watching now.

    I'd also add, keep in mind the temperature around you. I just moved from California to Oklahoma, and let me tell you, an Oklahoma winter is a lot harsher on my beard than Cali's ever were! Be sure to increase your oil application(by just a little, you don't have to go crazy)as the weather gets drier. Same thing for water intake and everything else. As your environment starts to dehydrate your body and beard more, make sure to adjust your application/consumption accordingly!

    I will say something that was a game changer for me. Why my hair is damp. I use a wood comb why my hair is damp to go through my beard b4 applying oil. Feels like I open the tangle hair. So when the oil gets applied. I feel it applies evenly. Also every 2 weeks I sit my wood comb in pumpkin seed oil.

    Great video, thanks. Got a long beard for about 7 years. Best advices I could add: Use conditioner with natural ingredients to wash the beard. Use castor oil in the evening to strengthen the hair. Use a big comb to avoid "overstretching" the hair. And don't put your hands on your beard to play around. Put away that habit.

    I follow all 5 of these steps almost perfectly. The acception is step 1 when it comes to when I drink my water. I find it very difficult to get my water in and by the end of the day I've got a half a gallon to chug before bed! Sometimes I don't take my first drink of my gallon until around dinner time. It's a struggle to remember to drink my water because honestly...I'm just not thirsty! But I'm going to try remember to drink it especially when I'm eating so that it will keep my mind on it the very first time I eat breakfast.

It makes my beard move as I do, I don't have to use much oils or butter I just use a little balm to hold my beard down a little just to style, smells great. An excellent video Dan. I follow all 5 of these tips. One thing I would have added to tip number 5 would be never use the shampoo you use to wash your head hair to wash your beard and the reasons why. The reason I would have added that is a lot of men think since they have no problems with the shampoo cleaning their head hair that it will be fine for the beard which is not the case. I'm wondering since the shampoo used to wash our head hair is to stripping to use on a regular basis leaving our beard feeling dry, brittle like straw causing breakage and split ends would it be ok to use the same shampoo we use to wash our head hair once a week or once every be 2 weeks as a stripping wash for the beard?

  • @DanCBearded

    @DanCBearded

    Жыл бұрын

    No, I would not recommend that. Mainly because it isn't just about being too stripping, it's about what it is designed for. Head hair shampoo is primarily for hair, while beard shampoo is for skin and hair. The ingredient list varies because of that.

    Another great vid Dan. How many times a day is too many for oil? I live in alberta, it's very dry here in the winter, and I work on a woodworking shop. I apply oil and heat in the morning, usually give a quick rinse and oil with no heat when I get home, and oil before bed. I've tried using butter at night but I find my skin under my beard beaks out. Maybe wrong butter for me?

I've since been drinking more water and also have been applying beard+face lotion to help remedy the dryness of my skin. I've massaged the lotion into my beard just so it makes contact with my skin. I started out 4 years ago with honest Amish beard oil. Since then I have found other brands that I like. The most important thing that I found was to use beard octane CLW. That in itself stops the dry and damaged hairs on my face. Another thing that I do to help is I will use oil after shower wait 30 minutes and put on bearded butter. I do this more often in the winter time because in the winter time it's so dry. The next day I do not need as much oil for my beard. One last thing I would say is to use a proper comb for your beard. If you do not use a comb to get the oil down deep into your skin, you are likely to overdo it with the oil because the oil is on top of your hair and doesn't reach your skin.

You want good beard oil and butters not that greasy watery mix it feels nasty on your hands. Like taking olive oil and rubbing it in your beard lol

    I just discovered that beard butter what drying out my beard. I drank lots of water wet my beard, used good quality oils and butters but still nothing, my beard was still dry. One night I skipped the butter and woke up to a super soft and hydrated beard. I think that the butter was preventing the water from being soaked into hair and skin especially since I'm not morning shower person. To me morning shower ppl should use butter at night and night shower ppl should use butter during the day, so far it's worked for me!
