    I’ve played with loads of players and once you come up against a Jazz pianist none of this applies. The Jazz pianist will just do their thing, your role is to be quick enough to pick up on it or go home.

    "The keyboardist who wants all the shine on the slow songs" We were playing a Christmas medley that had "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" The lead sax is playing the melody, and in that little space between the first and second line (between "Merry little Christmas" and "Let your heart be light") I just hear the pianist going ham on the melody. I look over and he has the look, you know the one, the *it's my time to shine!* look. Oh boy, here we go again.

    😂 This was so good. One time, I was playing drums for a conference with a totally different band that played old school gospel. The keyboard player was also the lead singer, so I’m over in my drum corner, spiced it up with a few accents and rolls, she gets super close to the mic in the middle of singing the song and tells me “KEEP A STRAIGHT BEAT!” 🤣

    I played with a guitar player who set the tempo for each song in practice and I made sure I wrote them down. Started each song on the practiced tempo, he'd stop playing, come over and change it. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower, several times every time we played together..

    I have a young great drummer I play with and we have been playing together at a Church for 9 years .. I think he was 7 years when we started playing together .. He knows my bird and move and I know his move .. There is big bond between us when we play and when he is not there , you can feel the difference ..

    It’s crazy cause I’ve played with almost every type you mentioned considering I play both drums and piano. So it’s very relatable on both ends 😂‼️ but my biggest pet peeves are the ones who are behind and slow the music down🤦🏾‍♂️

    I don't miss church but I miss playing with my bro 3 times a week (me on drums and him on keys) I'm proud to say we were not once trying to out shine the other, it was just fun playing together and making the songs sound pleasant to the surprisingly demanding audience 😅😅 and ourselves ofc! English is not my native language so yeah
