You can hear his huge Neil Peart influence in the way he plays in this song, Neil was his biggest influence when he was a teenager, it's because of Neil Peart he learned how to play on a big drum kit.

My fav from back in the day would be Mark Zonder. Originally from an early 80’s band called Warlord, but went on to debut with Fates Warning on the album Perfect Symmetry released 1989. That stands as some of the best drumming I’ve ever heard. No idea if he’s still in the industry.

Great seeing Mike doing what he does best. There is a song called "Tribal" by Nightwish with Kai Hahto on the drums. The drums on that song are insane - every limb is doing it´s own rhythmical thing at the same time and it reminds me of something that Neil Peart might do, especially at the 3:00 minute mark. You can find a video of Kai playing "Tribal" at a drum clinic. Just type in, Kai Hahto tribal drum clinic and it will show up on top. Nightwish just released a live video of that song and it´s great (recommend you watch it) but I don´t recommend that one to react to because you can´t see what Kai is doing on the drums. He´s actually playing the tambourine with his left foot while doing tribal-sounding rhythms with the other limbs. A very underrated drummer who only gets to tap into 10% of his ability in Nightwish.

Well hello #ColbyFultonDrums, who is Mike Portney? Man, at least you could spell and pronounce his name the right way. This is the one and only legend of legends MIKE PORTNOY, and he for sure doesn't play Yamaha drums, never had, never will. He has been endorsed by TAMA for about 30 years give or take, for the most part he plays TAMA Starclassics both maple and bubinga.

For me personally, over the past 20+ years M. Portnoy has worn the crown, owned the throne, and has held that down with incredible humbleness and humility. And in my opinion the most underrated and unknown drummer. And I believe the main reason is because of the fact their timing signatures, which in by itself you have to virtually be an alien from their planet to figure out so you can tap your fingers along on the steering wheel while stuck in rush hour traffic. My point? Most people like songs they can play along with at least somewhat. That's why their record sales in comparison to say, ACDC, would be night and day. ACDC is a "peoples" band or a "fans band", whereas Dream Theater is more of a "musicians band". However, back to what I was saying....Up until 6 months ago, M.Portnoy was untouchable (IMO)...until I came across El Estepario Siberiano. Whereas Portnoy left me in awe and amazement, El Estepario left me and continues to leave me speechless. And in all fairness, I can't say one is better than the other. Reason: Until Portnoy, the world never really saw drumming and timing signatures like what he was introducing. So he kinda forged the path for drummers like El Estepario and many others. And like Portnoy, El Estepario has introduced us to things we've never seen or heard before. So rather than replacing one king for another, I've chosen to simply add another throne and crown and sit them BOTH at the top. They deserve it.

You're reactions always come over a bit fake.... Maybe start with pronouncing the drummers name right? One of the most known drummers in the world, and you're saying his name wrong the whole video. Why are you always talking over the video with random stuff? Like video recommendations? Don't ruin the reaction with stuff like that. I would love seeing you react more on whats really happening, instead of just stating the obvious stuff! Still gave a like, and i'm subscribed!
