Nice deconstruction of his playing once again! I actually once had a semi-drunk chat with the guy, where he told me that he likes to play lots of heel toe for the newer, more technical Fetus songs, and goes "old school" with single strokes for the older songs, just to retain that old school vibe in playing for himself too.

Hi martyn, first of all congratulations for your hard work explaining all details of drummers techniques. i think that the real key of the question when you learn to play doubles is to set the sensitivity (threshold) of the trigger. you must be very accurate to make sound doubles when you really want it. And not to sound doubles when you want to play singles (missfire) . The settings on trigger module, the tension of the head, and pedal settings are as important as the technique you are using. Best regards from canary islands and a big hug

Hi Marthyn, Great video! Who do you think is the best drummer of these: Hellhammer, Inferno, George Kollias, Tim Yeung, Derek Roddy and do you think one of these can (or could in the past) lay claim to being the 'Worlds best drummer' (if this even can be an objective answer) Are there any better drummers than those who play death/black metal? Many thanks for your time in answering

Absolutely love these. I hope to see a Drum Teacher Reacts to Hellhammer somewhere in the near future. Especially his cymbal usage is pretty interesting. Might want to try getting him on the Drum Technique podcast as well :)

@@drumtechniqueacademy unfortunately I couldn't really find any videos that showed much or any of what he was doing with his feet. This is a decent quality video though. I think it would be interested to see you react to a drummer that focuses a little more on grooves than lightning speed precision. 😂 although, I do love death metal quite a bit.

Would love to see you analyze some of the punk/hardcore rooted drummers with a metal/tech edge, like Ben Koller of Converge (some great gopro footage of his songs if you search them), Jon Karel (Sawtooth Grin, The Number Twelve), or Billy Rymer (Dillinger Escape Plan.)

If you haven't checked them out yet, I highly recommend anything from Flo Mounier of Cryptopsy, the dude's a living legend in death metal drumming. There's also Sebastian Lanser, the drummer for Obscura and Panzerballett, and his playthrough of "Ten Sepiroth" is pretty cool to watch.
