    I don’t understand why his 23 years with Motörhead wasn’t even worth a mention. As far as Dee is concerned, the Scorpions are ancient history. “We are Motörhead and we play rock ‘n’ roll!”

    Mikkey Dee’s best work were those first 4 albums with King Diamond. He was always in Philthy’s shadow in Motorhead which is hardly surprising as he was such a massive character.

  • @HGSolberg

    @HGSolberg

    Phil Taylor was a character for sure, but he wasn't a better drummer than Mikkey Dee.

  • @misfit2022

    @misfit2022

    Жыл бұрын

    @Hans Gustav He was in Phil’s shadow because Phil had played with the classic line up and because Phil was such a big character. It was the same for the guitarists after Fast Eddie whereas Mikkey was part of the classic King Diamond line up. Phil was the Bert Trautmann of rock and roll. That’s a reference to him breaking his neck and playing on, albeit in a neck brace. What a legend.

  • @HGSolberg

    @HGSolberg

    Жыл бұрын

    @@misfit2022 I don't deny that Phil is a legend. I love the classic line up too, and wish they were all still alive and healthy, and playing together, but that's not reality unfortunately. Mikkey might have been perceived the way you describe it for the first few years, but he proved himself a true and genuine member of the band (in contrast to Wurtzel), and in the end he played in the band for many more years than Phil, and played on more studio albums too. I don't want to downplay Phil's role in making Motorhead one of the greatest Rock'n Roll bands in history, but Mikkey is objectively a better drummer, and his playing-style suited the band very well. He did a great job, plain and simple.

  • @misfit2022

    @misfit2022

    Жыл бұрын

    @Hans I agree but if you are part of a classic line up then that’s what people remember first. Take Kiss Paul, Gene, Ace and Peter. Peter is not as technical as Eric Singer but he was part of the classic line up.

  • @HGSolberg

    @HGSolberg

    Жыл бұрын

    @@misfit2022 I'm not that much into Kiss, so I don't really have much of an opinion on how they are perceived after Ace and Peter. But my personal opinion on Motorhead is that they didn't get any worse with Mikkey on drums and Phil Campbell on guitar. And remember, there was a reason why Lemmy decided Phil Taylor had to go. He was living a pretty self-destructive life at the time, and keeping him in the band would probably have meant the end of Motorhead. I'm sure that wasn't an easy decision for Lemmy, considering him and Phil were close friends. Now, all this is my personal opinion, of course, and we don't have to agree about everything. We both love Motorehead, and that's what counts! Keep calm, and rock on, brother! 🤘

Mr. Williams, I think if you are going to span the music landscape with your reactions maybe research a little bit and enlighten yourself with genres you aren't familiar with, or 'like' before you offer blanket statements. And maybe do a little Wikipedia on the artist before listening. Mr. Dee is much much more than the current drummer of the Scorpions.

    Thank for your reply. There are definitely more genre's of music I could listen to,, I am not a fan of heavy rock or metal music and, therefor will not be doing any reaction videos on drumming in these genres. I don't know much about Mikkey Dee's back ground. One of my subscribers requested I do a reaction on him and it provided me the opportunity to hear him play. I mean no disrespect toward any drummer or style. Like with food, there are music flavors I prefer not to listen to. Outside of what I might personally know about the drummers I react to, I won't be doing any Wikipedia research on any of the drummers I react to. That is something a fan can do if they are inspired to learn more. I hope that helps. I wish you all the very best with your drumming :-) PS I am not sure what genre of music you would classify for the Scorpions. I am just not a fan of their music. Nothing personal.

    Sad to me that whoever recommended this particular solo from Mikkey did so. Mikkey, who is approaching 60 like many of us, is getting older now and, though he's still great, isn't the same drummer he once was. It's no slag on him, it's just life. I've seen a solo online from his Motorhead days years ago which buries this solo. For the life of me I don't know why someone didn't look it up and recommend that solo instead of this one which, while still really good, isn't truly indicative of what Mikkey was in his prime. Hopefully going forward everyone will start providing info/links to guys when they were in their prime. To me it would be like someone sending another person a link of Tommy Aldridge performing a solo anytime say post 2005. You're still going to get a hell of a performance, but is it representative of what Tommy was in his prime? NO. I'm sure some will say "why does it matter", but I know if I was going to have someone, especially a musician, react to a solo I performed I would want it to be from my prime, not when I was either beginning to pass it, or had clearly passed it. I know music is not a contest, but when we watch solo's we're all sort of assessing ability to a certain degree if you are really being honest about it, so why not do that assessment of the musician based on their prime, not as they are heading into the twilight of their career? Call me crazy, but that's my 2 cents. If you read this Garey this is not intended as an attack on you at all.

    Thanks for your comment! I was asked to do a reaction on Mikkey Dee and I grabbed a good looking and sounding video of this solo. I was not familiar with him and not interested in his style of drumming enough to dig into his background. Nothing personal. I hope my reaction helped drummers to understand his playing more. When a subscriber request that I react to a drummer, I often ask that they send me a link. If they don't then I quickly scan KZread to find one, especially when I am not that familiar with that drummers playing style. I hope that helps.

    A good deal sounds like Neil Peart.

    Mikkey is one of those drummers who's solos aren't an excuse to go take a leak.... Eric Carr and of course Neil were the same.

    Mickey is way better than Philthy Phill because he is a complete player. Phil was an animal and a great player.
