It was breathtaking, even at the beginning of the season.

Classiest and probably the most influential on the average HS band kid show in all of DCI history.

9:46 has gotta be one of the prettiest sounds any drum corps has ever made

I will fight anyone who disagrees that this is probably the best show of DCI history. It changed the show style of drum corps forever

2000 cavaliers is probably my favorite, but god this show is one of the best

That company front at the end... it gets me every fucking time. Chills throughout my entire body. Such beautiful synchronization amongst the entire corps.

34 years later, still a landmark show for me. Exquisite,.powerful, enotional.

This show is what lit the fire in me for marching band. My band actually played a phantom showed my sophomore year and it was VERY heavily influenced by SCV's one. Bro. I am 32 and still get chills at this.

What a show indeed! Still gives me chills. I have to expand on this, it’s brought back so many memories of those days of DC tours and the blood sweat and tears that go into it. I remember watching this show in Ogdensburg, NY in 89. We had already seen 88s edition from DCI championships of that year so we knew a lot of the arrangements just because of how closely we watched this performance. By the end of this performance, my friend and I were literally in tears as it was so profoundly breathtaking to watch. There’s just something about ALWs compositions that make them so memorable. The melodies are engraved into my memory for life!

Thank you so much for posting this. It warms my nostalgic ass heart. Trying to indoctrinate my kid into loving marching band as much as I did.

My favorite SCV show ever!!!

Saw this live when I was five, I still love it

The ending always gets me, remember watching this show in my “hell week” for marching band.

Wishing SCV was somehow here again

My dad turned me onto this. Between this and Madison Scouts 1988 Malaguena! Wow. Wish I could travel back in time. Personally not down with all the electronics and vocals.

Same reason I’m watching. This is more shocking than the entire season cancellation of 2020. Hopefully 2024 brings back an even stronger Vanguard.

@@derekgross3571 ive talked to some vets who are more familiar with the situation, they really don't think vanguard's coming back, and even if they are, they don't think they'll be based out of santa clara anymore

@@arleydelaroche5430 due to financial strain, VMAPA has made the sudden decision to not field SCV this summer. they had previously announced that SCVC was being placed on indefinite hiatus as well

My 3 favorite SCV shows 1978, 81, and 89. And '82 the best hornline.

@katyornok63 82' was awsome, Contra here from Anaheim Kingsmen. 58 now and still have many visions of that long tour from Cerritos Falcon Stadium toward Montreal.

Imo, this is way better from a musical and visual stand point than it's 1988 predecessor.

That's what I was thinking. I saw the 88 show at "Drums o/t Ohio." Something just seemed different.

This is not a Band!!!! Please don't mistake them for a Band...A Band has Woodwinds...

Its band now. Thats why DCI ceased to exist when they brought in amplification and trombones. Call it band corps. In fact, call it quits. Long over due

Calling a Drum and Bugle Corps a band is a big no-no. At least is was in this era.

They got jobbed in 1988. This 1989 version was payback for a piss poor decision. Madison’s 1988 iconic 7 plus minute Malagueña was not the show SCV or Devils had Nothing Madison did brought emotion other than the loud ending. SCV show had me in tears

Where are the silly poses and massive props? No scatter drill? And the hats are getting in the way of the performer's faces. I'm not seeing a whole lot of emoting from the performers. A truely sad show only for dinosaurs!
