I am a 60 year retired government worker who carries a narcan kit to save opioid overdose victims. I am a former Boy Scout who believes in being prepared. When an addict needs help, I want to be able to offer it. And I also carry emergency equipment in case I happen on an auto accident. I don't want to watch any person die. Ask your local police force if they carry overdose kits. We all can help in stopping this wave of destruction.

Your post is a perfect example of why not everything in the comment section should be ignored. I am very surprised your simple message of arming the public en masse with overdose kits is not on the news. Are these kits expensive? Would the national emergency declaration have the power to lower the prices or increase availability?

Former addict here, and I think treating addicts as criminals simply does not work. Since the Portuguese decriminalized all drugs. Addiction has gone down. In the Netherlands, heroin addicts who simply cannot quit, can take their drugs, given by a doctor, in a safe place where nurses are available in case of an overdose. Since then, opioid related deaths have dropped dramatically. Opioids are terrible and should only be used for very ill people. But some people simply cannot quit, so let's treat them as sick rather than criminals.

I'd prefer decriminalization over legalizing. While legalizing sounds better it also come along with state regulations, and as we all know not all regulations are sensible.

@@nolives decriminalisation can be problematic. Here in the Netherlands weed was decriminalised in the 1970s. You can buy it legally in coffeeshops, but it is still illegal to own more than 5 marijuana plants, so the shops can't produce or buy their stock legally. So we have quite some organized crime around marijuana production. And because there is zero oversight on the production of weed, you don't really know what is in the pot you buy in the coffeeshop. They could have used heavy pesticides for all you know. Decriminalisation can only work if every single aspect is decriminalised. But if you want to be sure that the product is safe and of good quality, you need some level of oversight

Fantastic last statement.
That last line is perfect. Took almost 6 mins to get there but it's so worth it.
The drug involved in these many overdoses, actually, is Chinese carfentanil, not heroin. Since carfentanil has a similar effect as heroin, and since it is sold as heroin, police and news services often don’t make the distinction when telling stories. But the two are definitely different drugs, both legally and in effect. Carfentanil is much stronger per unit weight; thus, in order to make a carfentanil street-package equivalent to one of heroin, the carfentanil must be adulterated (cut). Considering the huge difference in potency, this cutting is a sophisticated procedure - often beyond the skills of your typical street drug dealer. If the cut is done improperly, one package could have 10 times the correct amount and another could have much less. That’s why people are dying. They don’t know in advance how much they are taking. If heroin were legal, everybody would be doing their proper dose. And that’s the solution, legalize heroin. The legalization of pot (Jefferies’s proposed solution) has nothing to do with it. We also notice Jefferies didn’t mention cocaine, his go-to drug. Can we have an opinion on that, Jim? Also, the introduction of a new sublingual form of Fentanyl also had nothing to do with the current upsurge of drug overdoses. That drug is barely available. And simply because it is so-many times more potent by weight doesn’t mean it is that much more potent by dose. Considering the drug is a pharmaceutical, it is properly labeled.
Damn. Jim is really good at this.
One of the rare times Jim is actually sober
Holy fuck, Jim Jefferies has his own SHOW?! HOLY FUCK!!!

Jim you make me smile....you make me frown....sometimes....but you are smart....and i buy into your thoughts!
This is a difficult subject. I personally have been on Fentanyl for about 8 years for chronic back pain. It causes all sorts of problems and I'm still in pain but without it, I have absolutely no doubt, I would no longer be here. For those who don't understand what it is like to be in constant pain, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I actually can hardly remember what it's like to not feel pain. Suicide is the bigger problem than drugs with chronic pain sufferers.
Great clip Jim

Are you in America? What happened? Was it that it was too difficult to get your prescription meds or did your doctor stop prescribing them before you stopped needing them? Is it too late to get off the street drugs? I wish you well and I hope you can find your way back to a less erratic (and less dangerous) life.

Yeah, I love how they claim marijuana is a gateway drug. Look at any high school in the US and you'll see the weed smokers (who mostly only smoke weed) and then the kids doing the hard stuff (completely separate group). Most of them started on RITALIN! The doctors are the ones prescribing the gateway drugs!
@jameshill2450
6 жыл бұрын
It's true that most heavy drug users started with weed, but that's not what caused them to try other stuff - they just did it first because it's the easiest thing to get (even easier than alcohol for a lot of teens). The majority of people who smoke will never try anything harder. That said, if weed is illegal where you are, then being a regular smoker forces you into places those harder drugs might show up. People don't typically go searching for a new drug, they try something their friend offered them; the real "gateway" is just becoming a part of that environment.

Legalize ALL drugs. You think people would do fentanyl if they could do oxycodone-promethazine legally?
@ThirteenAmp

_Do you think people would drink Vodka and Tequila if they could get beer legally?_ Yes. That's a really dumb question. Does anyone have an equally dumb question that is analogous to the one I just answered? Anyone?
@cursed_multicel
6 жыл бұрын
Retarded comparison. Fentanyl is literally 80 times as potent as morphine, but they've both been around for decades. So why the sudden increase in fentanyl use? Because when the feds decided to crack-down on oxy and hydro, people switched to the cheaper, highly available alternative: fentanyl. Prohibition is the cause of the problem, not the solution. Does that answer YOUR "dumb question?"
@cursed_multicel
6 жыл бұрын
Nobody would have a reason to go that far if they could take something safer and cheaper. Nobody wants to compromise their health, they just want to get high. People only die from fentanyl when drug dealers "cut" their heroin with it because it's cheaper and available. If drugs were legal, taxed, and regulated, legitimate retailers would be subject to labelling laws and putrity/quality standards that could easily prevent drug overdose. When you make them illegal, all you do is force the market into the shadows where there can be no FDA oversight. Think about the harm that you contribute to by promoting prohibition. Also, It's none of your business what grown adults put in their body; genitalia, drugs, piercings or otherwise.

Michael Miller nope most i have seen do it to either avoid pain or the detox and yes all of them are kinda of the same like morphine and herion are the same if you take herion what comes out of the blood brain berrer is morphine and yes they can kill you and its used in terminal people all the time and everyone has there own view of drugs but yes it should be legal and regulated by a dr and what i see is the synthetic drugs like oxy or hydro have very bad detox and the drugs to handle that are no good and even the ones for herion are not good and anyone i do mean anyone who takes them long term for pain is going to not only be addicted but have the pain issue also and not everything can be fixed and 100% of the time psych meds are used to detox someone and that causes problem like antidepressants and your very wrong on the fentanyl issue and many have died from it either it braking on them or whoever braking them and using it the wrong way just like the drug dealer does not know how much to cut the heroin with and it may go to dealer and dealer before its used

This video reminded me to refill my Norco. I live in Illinois, the mid West. Everything he's saying is true except it seems like the addicts are getting their prescriptions easily and it took me 2 years of not being able to walk or sleep in enormous pain and a compound spine surgery. And I denied fentanyl because they,for some godawful reason, think it's safer than low-dose opiates. I never saw myself taking these when I was a compounding pharmacy technician but the injury took that job too. Now I have "friends" (better yet,fiends!) Asking me for my pills despite my constant telling them they'll have to catch me dead before I Give up prescriptions to anyone.

My sister has chronic back pain. She has 2 options: super addictive, expensive, and extremely dangerous opioids... or cannabis products that are high in CBD with barely any THC. The latter relieves her pain without any intoxicating effect so she can still be fully functional at work and behind the wheel. She doesn't even have to smoke it so even the lung cancer fearmongering doesn't apply, they sell it in all sorts of forms now: vapes, tablets, lotions, delicious gummy candies, you name it.
nice
I'm prescribed180 hydrocodone a month and have been for 9 years now through my PCP, from breaking my neck in 3 places on a dirt bike. I take them when I need them and don't when I don't When I went through Pain Management they prescribed me Fentanyl patches. I didn't like not being in control over my medications and let them know it. They said if I refused it, then my pain wasn't severe enough. They were TRYING to create another Heroin addict.
@pattiebell3657

2xkiller Hydrocodone, an opiate narcotic and is addictive just like fentanly. Patch are a better option and do prevent addiction. But the best way is to never stick with one opioid if you need them long term. Try not taking them you may find yourself getting a headache which is a common side effect of taking Codeine.
