    Awesome video man. Been following you on Instagram for a year or two now and somehow just came across your KZread a week or two ago. Watched your tube video before I went out last weekend and managed to land a bunch on it, never had before but never used them to much either. Looking forward to using these tips for dropshotting. I use it from time to time but like the tube video this is very good and detailed. Great idea for a series can't wait to see more.

    Good tips Ben. You can still have a parabolic/fast rod with an ultra sensitive tip. Alpha Angler DSR is where it’s at. It’s near impossible to shake off a smallie with that and a g finesse ds hook. Love these technical vids. What’s next, deep crankin?

    Good good point - I was watching it back and like, dang...I mis-spoke there lol. I played with the G-Finesse and had a ton of success, but switched up after hearing Feider talk about using that Neko hook and love that Mosquito hook. I would do deep cranking, but Mikey has one of the best deep cranking videos out there!

    1/0 Gamagatzu swivel hook Size #1 trokar hook. That Hook is actually becoming a favorite. It literally pins on the 90° turn and the barb is legit. Not good at roof of mouth so it's kinda a toss up. You will however land more skin hooked fish as long as you don't Horse them in. I prefer a slightly tighter drag on hook set only hear a few clicks and then backing off a hair than having a loose drag and setting the hook with a light sweep.

    Have you ever tried Cajun coastal rods? I bought one for 179.99 and I swear I've never felt a more sensitive rod, braid to fluoro, straight fluoro. 6'9 with the pflueger Presidential is my go to dropshottin rod. Worked with it over a year and IMPRESSSED!

    Great video Ben. This is the content I really like. This, the tube video, are so helpful in fine tuning my approach to catching big smallies. This is the time of year they head to deeper, cooler, water and these techniques are critical to fishing success. I love drop shot fishing. As you say it improves numbers, but it also helps you find and catch bigger fish as well. I am going to try the baits you mentioned, and before I run to tackle warehouse, if I click on the links you have listed, do you get credit for those purchases? If so, I want to make sure I go through your links. Thanks again for the video, keep this type of content coming, as there are not a lot of channels dedicated to finesse fishing techniques. Still trying to figure out why I can't catch fish on tubes, but I haven't given up, but I am switching to drop shotting soon. :-) Tight lines.

    BassGeek it’s ok, the hook is decent, I just am not super confident in my Connection knot line to line with it going through my guides, so I’d rather tie a swivel and a Palomar to the hook rather than a line to line, plus two knots on the hook itself. The concept is great if you are super confident in your line to line knot, because then you can run a really long top-shot

    What proud line were you using for your rod and reel?

  • @nawinchester
    @nawinchester6 жыл бұрын

    PS, I meant to ask, you don't find the weight of the swivel changes the presentation of your DS ? I know smallies can be line shy, especially in clear water, hence the question on the addition of a swivel.? I get the benefit, as I can't tell you how my times I have had to fight with line twist during a long day of DS fishing. Using a swivel also great shortens your leader length, as you can't get the swivel through the guides. That is another consideration for me, as I use 10 to 12 foot leaders. Thanks and look forward to your feedback.

  • @brnowak_fishing

    I’ve never noticed and impact on getting bites, but in super super super clear or pressured fisheries it could make a difference. I know for my spybait since it’s a bait the fish want to trail a long ways, I use a 30 foot leader, so you can tie line to line, I just prefer the swivel. I’m not sure how much of an impact my shorter leader makes

    Reed DeMarco Try the area north of Three Sisters Island and Grand Island and the points outside black bass bay. Also, great early morning/evening bites when the smallies go shallow. Less smallies than Long Lake, but slightly larger. It is very underfished for smallmouth in comparison to Long Lake.

    *..Inserts that's what she said joke...* I do too. Nothing like a big fish on a sensitive stick. On KY Lake I've been throwing the ole fairy wand around a lot this year. I've always made fun of it being a Cranking/Dragging type of guy, but after this year I've started to understand the reason people like it so much. In fact I think the majority of my videos this year have had a Drop Shot fish catch thrown in the mix. I'd never be able to go up north for Smallies, no one down here would ever see me again after the first fish Lol
