Shired (pronounced "shurd") Island is located in a beautiful wilderness area near on Florida's Nature Coast. It is accessible from Cross City via the road to the small fishing village of Horseshoe Beach.
There are vast wild beaches, a campground, and plenty of space for hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing. You can even get your own oysters on the low tide!
Shired Island is the place that started the revolution for me! It is where I caught my first Redfish on The Green Drum, now 6 years ago, which was the first time I put the pieces together and figured out how to catch my own target species, and a delicious slot to boost!
It will forever have a place in my favorite wildernesses for that reason.
There are no facilities or establishments for miles, so bring your own everything. No cell phone service too, just the way I like it.
