Stargardt disease is a rare eye disorder that is diagnosed in children and young adults, usually between ages six to twenty. It causes progressive central vision loss in both eyes and is commonly called “juvenile macular degeneration”. They often have problems reading, using a computer or tablet and can't pass the California screening test for driving. Stargardt's patients often suffer from eye fatigue.
With special glasses for Stargardts, reading and using the computer can be improved. The patient also suffers less fatigue and tired eyes. With bioptic telescope lenses, many Stargardt's patients have been allowed to drive in California for over 50 years.
