Driving to Kairouan, the 4th holiest Muslim city in the world! Tunisia 🇹🇳

This vlog was recorded on 25th January 2023 (25/01/23)
We finalised our tour by visiting the 4th holiest Muslim city in the world, Kairouan. The Great Mosque of Kairouan was unfortunately closed to non-muslims due to prayer time but we got a brilliant view on top of the market!
We bartered with two men and bought a small handmade rug for my mum for 30 Tunisian Dinar. I bought some Saffron for 5TD too! 🏨

We found the exact same carpet for a quarter of the price in an Ali Baba shop the next day! 🤣 It will be in the next vlog 😁

50 Dinar is only about £13.50, but well done for getting it for 30...or 8 quid!

We couldn't translate TD using Google as it's always wrong - the currency never fluctuates because it's a locked governed currency! (It's the living wage that fluctuates) £1 GBP = 3.63TD we found out (if I remember correctly), so I think we paid approximately £13-£15? 😅

@Tegan Josie I have the XE app installed on my phone, it's a godsend, especially when you have to haggle! I was in Tunisia last week, and would have struggled with conversions without XE due to the odd amount that we have to divide by to convert to pounds. At the moment XE is saying that 30 Dinar converts to £8.04!

That man who sells carpets made me angry, why did he not be lenient with you in the price? I swear to allah, if I were him, I would give you one as a gift. Money is not everything in this life. I apologize to you in its place because you desired it and did not get it.

She could even give him 50 dinar as a gift. no?😂 Westerns visit other European countries but never bargain but in Tunisia or Nepal they want to give the craftsmen based on the currency not based on the level of craftsmanship.
