Driving the steep pass of Balmberg by bike

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This clip shows the ride over the Balmberpass from the north on a motorcycle. The Balmberg is a Swiss pass in the canton of Solothurn that connects Welschenrohr to Günsberg. The Balmberg from north (Welschenrohr) is one of the steepest pass roads in Switzerland, with a gradient of around 25%. This is why there is a warning sign at the lower end, to be seen in the beginning of the clip. The road is also quite narrow, so that cars sometimes have to reverse to allow oncoming traffic to pass. As you can see in the clip, there is a car coming downwards, though luckily on a straight section of the pass. In the steep and narrow needle curves it takes to shift down to first gear, as you have to drive slowly to watch out for oncoming traffic.
