Agree: Range Rovers have that quintessentially British quality... that "wafting along" kind of float, that no other [luxury] car manages to get. Not even the more expensive German ones are on a par.

I drive one of these and it’s essentially an SVR for tens of thousands less. Giving up a bit of sound and handling that’s about it.
Considering this is fundamentally a vehicle launched in 2013 (in the UK at least) and having a facelift in 2018, this has aged really well and still can hold its head above the competition

The interior looks just superb with all the contrast and a well distributed center console, isn't that amazing that's so well sound isolated that the only loud thing (besides the engine and your voice) was the rain?

I have one but an 18 supercharged in black. My favorite car ever. The sound is brutal. But the car can be whatever you want it to. It can chill or just start barking right away. Love it
One of the best things about Range Rovers is the driver's seat position. I had a 1984 Range Rover 3.5 ltre, V8 Petrol SE, model in Africa. At the time,I lived on a farm, 34 kms(18 miles) from the capital, along a major arterial road leading north. Consequently there was a lot of Heavy Goods traffic to deal with, mostly 18 wheelers. In the wet weather they would throw up really quite dense clouds of spray from their massive wheels. It was so bad that even with windscreen wipers on maximum, drivers of ordinary saloon cars would battle to see the road ahead, but in a Range Rover one sat high enough to be above the "sprayline"...!! "Living Room" comfort with Genuine Off Road superlative capabilities..!
Haha. I looked at this one on Boston Motorsports inventory the other day, and thought “maybe Ted will drive it?” Thanks for this!
These are great, at 6'0" I love how I can get into a really nice low driving position with the wheel high and close, and the ZF 8 speed auto is fun to shift with the paddles for a slushbox! I also like how well the AWD system rotates under power if you crank the wheel over and floor it. It also rotates super well under brakes (I autocrossed one at a Jaguar/Land Rover promo event).

Excellent review excellent driver! My dream car!
I drove this today and as a car guy I was genuinely surprised by how enjoyable it was. For a vehicle that is so capable, comfortable, practical, and quiet, there is something so hilarious about going as fast as you can go with such a violent exhaust.
One of the few reviewers on YT that actually DRIVES the cars!! edit:(and is still safety conscious so bonus points)
Tedward is the BEST!😁🚘
You summed up the Range Rover experience perfectly. I owned a 2010 full size autobiography that had essentially the same 5.0 supercharged V8. The seating position, startup sound, air suspension, sound system and lastly smell of that genuine leather interior I haven’t found in any other brand. I owned it until 100k miles and the only repair needed was a water pump. I definitely plan on owning one again!

Can’t go wrong with either of them. I can tell u the last 4 rovers I’ve owned, did not have warranties and they have been amazing, Aslong as u maintain them, they are actually solid, little shit here n there; but nothing as far as reliability, amazing in snow and rain, comfy, fast, looks great, my last river had almost 140k miles, we bought it with 80k and in the 60k miles we added, only changed the brakes, rotors, oil changes, and a starter went bad, overall was the best SUVs I’ve owned, I’ve owned all the luxury SUV, navigator black label, Escalade platinum, qx80 Infiniti, Lexus lx570, gls550, gls63, I still have the rovers :) afford the Maintenance and you will be fine.

I have the 6 cylinder version of this. First Range Rover and I used to have bmws. Agree the steering, seats and ride quality are cut above Audi and bmw. I really enjoy even mundane errands in this car. Effortless and luxurious but somehow engaging too. I did drive a defender and agree that the sport is the better choice. They share the same basic chassis and I think the sport is pretty much equally capable off road even though it doesn’t look it.

Yeah Sport is very good off road, no real difference
I love how smooth it drives. On the one hand, it's a Range Rover, so it has a kind of roughness. But on the other hand, the handling and acceleration seem incredibly smooth and nice. If you hit the gas the engine roars, but if you then lift it sounds almost silent. It's the perfect balance between comfortable British luxury and the adventurousness of a Range Rover.
imagine this with a 6MT.. dream daily
For the business person who wants sophistication and speed. For that business person's toddler kid who wants to be at the play date as fast as possible while still making a great entrance.
Immediate throttle response? Supercharging is superior to turbocharging in that respect.
Those conditions and a mass of this suv is asking for trouble despite the state of the art safety features.
which one did you prefer between this and the x7 m50i?
Would you choose this or the Cayenne turbo s e for your daily??
If I had the money for a Land Rover I'd get the Defender. Only reason Id get a Range Rover Sport would be to get the SVR. But since Jaguar has the F-Pace SVR I'd get that over the Range. I like the exterior and interior more and it's probably a bit more reliable.
