Driving Sheerness, Isle of Sheppey, Kent

Driver's view of the streets of Sheerness, Isle of Sheppey - lying off the north coast of Kent where the Thames Estuary, North Sea, River Medway & the Swale channel meet.
Ideal as a once base for the Navy, Army & Aviation. Also an attraction for holiday makers since the Victorian era - and still is, although now past its heyday. The clock tower was erected in 1902 to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII.

Thank you so much for this. My 90 year old grandma grew up here and was so happy when she recognised things from her childhood, especially the clock. Thank you - David from Australia

Having been born there but left in 1960, I found this so interesting and nostalgic. Many thanks for such a pleasure although Sheerness has changed a lot from my time and perhaps not always for the best, I still regard the place with affection. Melbourne, Australian ex-Sheppy Ite.

That's great, Maurice, thanks. I had people like yourself in mind when producing it. Makes everything worthwhile. More to follow. All the best from a Sheppey Ite.

To, think that I grew up here years ago before I enlisted in the army in the 1970s, how it has changed.

One day this will be just as important as the 'phantom rides' of the earliest days of cinema, a time capsule of a particular place and time.

It looks like Sheerness got a lick of paint since i was there in 2006? My Dad (born on Alma road) and family are from Sheppey (Grandad from Minster) and I intend to visit again with my wife and son. This video is great as an advance guide to streets and places to visit. Thanks for uploading!
