This video is proof that you often learn more from a KZread video for free than in a lesson that you pay for. Superb instructor.

Sadly they let anyone to teach . My company employed people that I have no clue how they pass their theory. My instructor yesterday argued with me that we have to put triangle on motorway ,telling me that this is England and in England we must put triangle behind bus if we are in road traffic incident in motorway. 😢😮😂... God give this people brain and Hope DVSA AND DVLA will start educate all those that been issued with license they dont deserve. Also they should stop give chance companies to educate and to test their own staff ... This murders on the street are so many thnx to that wrong designed system and careless training providers and careless company trainings. The scary thing is that I asked why there is triangle mention ,when even in town Street I will first try to help my passengers, and in motorway triangle is irrelevant even after the evacuation. He jumb on me telling me that what I learned in my hgv is not applying in pcv modul 4 ...😂😂😂😂 that was the moment I realised I have discussion with idiot!

My driving instructor every day come up different and conflicting driving way, I rather watch more from KZread like this one, with clear and concise guide
what a superb, calm, clear, put-you-at-ease professional instructor this man is. He injects confidence in trainees just from the sound of his voice. He must have guided many a good many students to pass their tests.

Bus driving is about knowledge of the the way a bus is built, size and the power also the knowledge of the road you are driving around. It is like a picture in your mind and body that all falls into place when yo6 are in practice with using and driving the large passenger vehicle you can handle and drive great instruction video as regards how to begin to drive a london type bus.
Great instructor 👍 very encouraging lesson
28:02 waiting for a safe gap in traffic to turn right, unlike the Mercedes Vito going round you from the nearside.....
Great training Video. Just passed my test but have still learnt something. Thanks

Idk why it’s fun to watch i’ve already passed my test 😂
Just as comprehensive as a LGV drive i'd say, but without the bus stand or stops. I am an ex LGV driver of 27 years and will be taking my driving assessment with a bus driving company soon, I see nothing here i don't already know and use in my driving each and every day already. He spoke well and explained what he was going to do before doing it. Good drive. It's a shame there aren't programs like this put on TV, so car drivers and van drivers know what is going through the bus drivers mind or why he she is doing certain things on the road. It would give the general public a better understanding of how difficult the job is for larger vehicles and make the roads safer. Having said that cycles and pedestrians as well can learn a thing or two here also.

after 45 years as a bus driver(and instructor hgv-psv-car) i have never seen the push pull driving having to move your whole body to do this if you move your sea just slightly forward so your hands reach the top of the steering wheel with a slight bend at the elbows you will find you dont have to move your body to do this a lot more comfortable, after a 10 hr shift driving like that your back and shoulders will be hurting like hell, also going through zig zag crossings at that speed it would not have been possible to stop comfortably and safely if someone had run out iin front of the bus

Or move the wheel back. Otherwise if you’re too close to the pedals, you will end up with a jerky ride.

I was thinking the same thing and I've never been a bus driver/instructor etc. but, if he's been driving this way for decades his muscles are tuned to cope and he probably doesn't get sore. I'd pull the seat closer though.

@Harry Ting get your facts you will never fail an hgv or psv driving test by using the push pull steering method as that is the professional way to steer if you go for an advanced driving licence as I did you will find that is the accepted way of steering
@dachoakley

@Harry Ting then the tester needs to lose his job read some of the other comments you will find all professional drivers use. this method in the whole of England
Wow this could really help other people thanks for the information
To be honest, after a twelve hour day, I don’t know anybody that does push and pull. We can all do it for show. Having said that, there is so much in this video to learn from. He really is a good instructor that makes driving a bus look easy.

Obviously its just for the test and learning , I’m about to start bus driving school beginning of July so this is ideal for me to learn by watching this guy, same with a car when you pass your test that goes out the window really 🤣
My instructor was nothing like this. He used to bellow in my ear and slam his clipboard down if I made a mistake. But it was a test of how I would react under pressure from the public. Something he explained to me after my training.
but yes he IS a very good driving instructor very clear very, very calm excellent i wish my instructor was more like him
great video, just passed my bus driving test yesterday and this video gives a few more good pointers to bear in mind, passing the test doesnt mean your a good driver so i`ll always be checking videos like this to keep me mentally alert ,gonna be interesting in the next few weeks as i`ll be out on my own so any handy hints and tips i can find along the way will make me more confident and hopefully a better driver
As a bus driver, I think push and pull is the worst technique out there. Not to say that it doesn't do the job, because it certainly does, but it isn't really logical or useful in a fast-paced movement. For example, driving in a city it works when you only make a small turn, but if you really need to do a sharp turn, it's a much easier and driver friendly to steer it "regularly" and not push and pull it all the way. It's also a very jaggy way of doing it, because it's like doing a notch at a time. It's not a smooth way of doing it.

MrZarewna it’s ok doing it for a short video. Do it nine hours a day with somebody punching you up and the controller asking why you are late. Push and pull, it takes more effort in my opinion but if it suits some drivers, that’s good. Not mr though.
@CommanderPiglet

I was about to mention it as well. I have always said that you should stay relaxed when driving, and push pull works against that, especially in bigger vehicles.

Lol go ahead, the worst bus company to work for, there ethos is to try and sack the driver from the day they start with there pathetic discipline policy.i was called into the office fir a passenger reporting me for kidnapping her ,I laughed my head off at garage manager, he said that's not the right attitude, I then told him to review the cctv footage as she was sitting at the back of the bus playing on her phone and over run her stop by 8 stops ,and the fact she left her empty bottle of wine on the back seat when she left the bus..I left I week later and will never return to the industry ever again, tfl policy, just sit there and ignore the passengers threatening you trying to attack you ,just turn a blind eye to it all it's all ok..I am a great believer in telling someone when there wrong not ignoring it and them thinking they can carry on and abuse people doing there job.crap pay crap hours crap company,if you got a family you won't see them!!!!!

It dates back to when vehicles did not have power steering, allowing you to have one hand gripping the wheel at all times
What a nice supper lesson thanks allot for your help with the bus training
Top-notch, calm, not arrogant, instructor. Wish he'd been mine.
Am I the only one that learned so much and felt so relaxed watching this video? Great instructor and explained everything clear and easy to understand. Thank you!!

@@johnsinclairmcleanHi John! How are you finding the job so far working for FIRST? I will soon be starting my training at FIRST in Scotland too, just waiting on my provisional to arrive as I’ve just done my medical a few days ago. Also, what is the whole training process like? Any info would be appreciated. (Also just to clarify, I’ve never driven anything bigger than a car, and only had my driving license for just under a year.. I hope this won’t be an issue in terms of lack of experience.. so far I’ve been told it’s not an issue at all, but I’m just a little worried nonetheless). Any info regarding the routes would be helpful too, as I’m not sure if they make you learn all of them straight away or do you get a few months to learn them? Thanks in advance.

@@MAX_BUX Hi Max, I’m 7 months with First now, the training is intensive and can be stressful, 2 weeks into training I felt the same as I did the first day & thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life, however, now I can say I absolutely love the job, like you, I hadn’t driven anything bigger than a car and to be honest it does take time to get used to the size of the vehicle, but it does come with driving experience. My only advice to you is stop worrying, don’t stress about things like routes, keeping the vehicle on time etc, they will all fall into place in time, if you take a wrong turn just stop and phone control, they will advise you what to do, if you’re late, you’re late, we all make mistakes in the early weeks after training we’re human after all- I hope that this response has put your mind at ease a little Max, enjoy the training & the job 👍

@@johnsinclairmclean Thanks for your reply John. I now have an official start date for my training, it’s Monday 9th September so only 2 days to go. May I ask what area of Scotland you work in? I’ll be working in the livingston area + surrounding towns. Also, appreciate all the info you’ve provided. The guy in my interview told me there’s 7 routes I will need to learn, I’m already somewhat familiar with a couple of them, but the rest I don’t know at all. When you started, did they make you learn all the routes straight away? Or was it only a couple to begin with? I’m looking forward to it. Thanks.
thank you for posting and sharing, I'm not a bus driver, but I always had a thought of tying to do that job...
Great stuff, very professional!
This video is the best, thank you for making it.
Excellent training video. I'm new to Bus Driving but been an instructor/trainer in other industries for over 30 years. Listen to what he's telling you. Watch what he's doing and how he does it. Absorb the way he thinks through his actions ahead of time and how he observes what's happening in front of and around himself at all times. It's brilliant stuff. Thanks so much for the training. Job very well done.

this was fantastic i love how everything was clear you make it look easy 😁😁
you are a really good instructor. Very clear and details information of what you are doing, how to do it, and why you are doing it.
Great driver , calm and relaxed you make London driving look easy As for that car that over took you on zebra crossing Blimey that just reiterates what my old HGV instructor used to say get on the glass. He was ex army , he was relaying importance of mirrors As defensive driving I did both my HGV tests in reading , Berkshire and my coach test out of Abingdon, in the country side but lots of narrow lanes and horses and bikes Any way this is great training video
Thankyou, just embarking on my bus license journey. Very helpful.
ALX sounds lovely!
Thank you, I learn a lot of this lesson and helps me to my first bus driving.
Push and pull Mate! Thank you Urban for this video.
Thanks for this video. I wanted this video when on learning to drive bus
Thank you, very clear and helpful instructional video.
Knowing where the Tail Swing is, is equally as important especially when close to objects so as to not hit the objects and constantly checking in the mirrors.
Great instructor

Brilliantly demonstrated under multiple hazards- developing hazards and totally focused on getting customers safely to their destinations. Here is a true professional based on the Smiths Driving Techniques in this video. Thanks for making this training session. Thoroughly learned it again and again.

Thoroughly enjoyed that, the issue you mentioned about getting stuck is so important, I saw a video of another driver got caught a fined, I did feel sorry for him, he had 2 yellow box junctions close to each other and got stuck, no where to go.
thank you sir that was lovely

@Dr Corona To be honest. I read your response as an attack on disabled people which to be honest. It pissed me off because if it wasn't for so many kids having that MMR vaccination. There would not be so many people with brain damage with autism as such and that was why I called you out on it. I have worked with autistic people and despite their disabilities. They are some of the most creative people that anyone will meet. Anyone that picks on disabled people can expect a harsh response from me because its downright disgusting and only a guttersnipe would attack disabled people.
The range rover joke was crazy😂

What a star! Consummate professional and a man who is clearly on top of his job. Thank you. Mirrors are clearly the key. How do you know your mirrors are set correctly?
Aww a Dennis Trident, very good buses, I was trained in them and then drove them in service, then it’s successor the enviro 400, out of the two I would choose to drive the trident, better made, more powerful and I felt it had better handling, especially ideal for those dead runs back to the garage after a shift

Quick question, I'm hoping to start my training as a driver in the new year.. Is the training still the same throughout each city/county? What you was saying and showing throughout the whole video actually has put my mind at rest (somewhat)
I Learn lots Of Points After Watch This Video. Thanks
Nice video and the words like "bus stand" "lorry" makes me happy coz i thought only Indians use such words.😂👌🏼
Much more to watch out for when in service
An external view of the bus, along with your explanation would have made this video even better.
Excellence in training. My dream job would be to progress into PCV driver training.
When you're taking corners is it always the mirror in the direction in which you're turning that you need to check first?
When parking up - could either vehicle on the right or left side of you be smaller in length due to the size of the parking space, etc?
