Driving Downtown - Charlotte - USA

Driving Downtown - Charlotte North Carolina USA - Season 1 Episode 2.
Highlights include Tryon St - College St - Church St - 6th St - 5th St - Trade St - 4th St - 3rd St - Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.
Charlotte is the largest city in the U.S. state of North Carolina, the seat of Mecklenburg County, the second largest city in the Southeastern United States, just behind Jacksonville, Florida, and the third fastest-growing major city in the United States.[3] In 2014, the estimated population of Charlotte according to the U.S. Census Bureau was 809,958,[4] making it the 17th largest city in the United States based on population. The Charlotte metropolitan area ranks 22nd largest in the US and had a 2014 population of 2,380,314.[1] The Charlotte metropolitan area is part of a sixteen-county market region or combined statistical area with a 2014 U.S. Census population estimate of 2,537,990.[5] Residents of Charlotte are referred to as "Charlotteans". It is listed as a "gamma-plus" global city by the [Globalization and World Cities Research Network]].[6]
Charlotte is home to the corporate headquarters of Bank of America and the east coast operations of Wells Fargo, which among other financial operations makes it the second largest banking center in the United States.[7] Among Charlotte's many notable attractions, some of the most popular include the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL), the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA), 2 NASCAR Sprint Cup races and the NASCAR All-Star Race, the Wells Fargo Championship, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Carowinds amusement park, and the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is a major international hub, and was ranked the 23rd busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic in 2013.[8]
Nicknamed the Queen City,[9] Charlotte and its resident county received its name in honor of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, who had become queen consort of Great Britain the year before the city's founding. A second nickname derives from the American Revolutionary War, when British commander General Cornwallis occupied the city but was driven out by hostile residents, prompting him to write that Charlotte was "a hornet's nest of rebellion", leading to the nickname The Hornet's Nest.
Charlotte has a humid subtropical climate. Charlotte is located several miles east of the Catawba River and southeast of Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in North Carolina. Lake Wylie and Mountain Island Lake are two smaller man-made lakes located near the city.

I am from Russia, but I have been living in this city since 1998... Love it! Adore it! I think this is the best city in America. A little bit provincial, but big... Welcomes everyone with its southern hospitality... Very clean and new,. Building with a “supersonic” speed (too fast!!). Beautiful and new city that changes every day! Our down town grows and becomes more and more beautiful year to year. We have a light rail now and an outer loop, HWY 485, that meets all the ends of Charlotte. Green city, that has a lot of flowers, bushes, beautiful trees... Very cozy, very soft and charming city. Love you, my Charlotte! Live long!

I've visited Philly. I will never forget the overpowering smell of urine as I walked by a metro station downtown, nor the parking ticket I and several others were given (unfairly) because, I guess, we failed to read the worn-out and completely illegible street sign near where we were parked -- a street in serious disrepair.

Lake Norman is the largest man-made lake in North Carolina and if you've ever been there, you know its the best! Thanks for posting this driving tour.

That is the one thing we lack. Our downtown (or Uptown) does not have shopping. We have plenty of bars and restaurants but no shopping. All of the shopping is outside the downtown center. This is because people didn't actually live in the business district until the last decade or so. That is slowly changing though.

There is a ton of shops inside the street mall.I mean, it can be more but its enough for something in a small downtown. Its still a small place. They have doctors, eye doctors, dentists, spas, clothing shops, repair shops, movie theater, small stores, Walgreens and a few other places like it. They do have more entertainment then shopping but thats what most people go there for. Mall is open on weekdays only, during weekends its a ghost town, with only a couple of shops open (short period) and no traffic. During week its super busy, and stuffy, and to no surprise the shops are filled with people who are mostly working in the area and there for the break. I can see why they have no reason to be open on the weekends. I just dont see what kind of shopping they should have there. Gucci and crap? Nevertheless, I actually enjoy the mall on weekends when its super hot or cold, since its empty and you can move through downtown without going outside, at the same time enjoying the views, peace, and art. During the week I have to fight my way through, so on nice weather I prefer the streets, which sadly are also congested with ppl. I dont even wanna know what its like to look for a street parking space. So adding more shopping, will bring more people, and there is already an issue with street parking being hard to find. Around 2008 they had little stand shops around that mall area with things like hats or bags, like in regular malls. Even inside that area with the bank. They dont have those anywhere anymore.

At 4:16 is Duckworth's Grill & Taphouse. Years ago it used to be The Fox & Hound Pub & Grille, and before that it was Jonathan's Uptown. I live in Salisbury, NC and I used to drive to Jonathan's Uptown practically every week. Downstairs was called the jazz cellar. I really miss that place. That's where I met Billy Preston, "the fifth Beatle."

Love this city! For those of you who want to move, it's a fantastic place to live! The only downsides I would say are the summer weather (oppressively humid and hot), and the way out of control traffic issues.

Recently visited Charlotte and stayed by the Spectrum center. Walking through uptown and seeing many fountains and beautiful buildings and lots of trees and parks, felt a peaceful vibe, not to mention a guy playing the saxophone made the atmosphere chill. Yes it was humid and hot, but rained in the evenings. Hope to visit Uptown Charlotte again someday.

Whichever American cities I watch on KZread, especially by J Utah, I always find it totally spectacular. Neat and good roads, classy large and tall buildings, cool cars, well-ordered traffic flow, good-looking people with fancy dresses walking around downtown, probably something you can see only in the US.
