Good decision by TJ Jack not to follow you down that rocky creek. Can you get side bars for the rear of the GU? Won't that prevent you from opening the rear doors? Well done tackling that hill. You made it look easy. Makes me want to get a front locker now - even though I'm not a hard core 4WDer - just an overlander.

    1. Your son will never forget your camping/4X4 trips for as long as he live. He will remember you as the greatest dad ever. 2. You’re the only chef I’ve ever seen sitting down while cooking. 😂 …Please, I beg you(!), please, get a cast iron frying pan or two. Much better taste than aluminum covered in non-sticky plastic and slower cooking as it must use less heat providing more delicious flavors. Cast iron is soooo much better.

Sunday morning cuppa time 🤙 EDIT: Yes to scrub bars. In fact, I think for you, they are a necessity. Flares, anything is good as long as it isn't Kut Snake. They are ugly as a hat full on a patrol. Even stock flares extended an inch with garden edging looks better than Kut Snake. Looks like a fun place. Perhaps a bit much for TJ or his rig going by his disappearance.

@Tyler Just watched the first seconds of the video. Your car is locking the front wheels going down those slippery rocks. Locked front wheels does NOT steer no matter how much you turn the steering wheel. At that moment you’re no longer a driver but only a passenger. Next time, pull up your handbrake 2-3-4 notches. This will change the brake balance to the rear, might lock up the rear wheels, but you are at far less risk of loosing your steering. Try it next time, 2-3-4 notches on the hand brake makes wonders!

Beer O’Clock Hill - 2x Lockers are always better than single lockers. And you just proved it. 4x4 is the opposite of F1. It’s similar to choosing the right line, but that’s where the similarities ends. F1 is the fast one, 4x4 is the slow one. And your twin lockers proved it! Always equip your vehicle for the worst conditions imaginable and you will have a vehicle that manages the challenges in front better than the ones who doesn’t have a similar understanding. 1 (and especially 2 lockers) gives so much more control at slow speeds in harsh terrain. Well done, mate, and congratulations to your decision of twin lockers.

BTW, I have Fibreglass Replacement Panels flares on my 80. Look like factory, but a couple inches wider to cover the bigger tyres. They are based either on the north side of Brisbane or on the Sunshine Coast, but if you are going to keep using that Patrol as a comp rig instead of tourer, than maybe bar work to protect the flares might be better for you

Does left foot breaking + a little accelerator work in an auto to avoid wheel lock up downhill ?

Don't know about Tyler but I use my handbreak too going down the steep stuff . Sometimes I need the right foot on the foot rest to keep my arse in the seat

@@chadingerson6354 that certainly makes sure your tyres lock up and you slide. The best case scenario is, you can slow your wheel speed down to below what you’d be sliding down the hill. (Theory that is). In a manual you do that by applying break & accelerator at the same time finding the balance to keep engine revs just a tiny bit above stall. Was wondering if the same technique would work in an Auto?

@@andrefischer5025 Depends were your handbrake is. Most Patrols it's on the tailshaft, so it's a perfect thing to use going down steep stuff - I use mine all the time. The TB48, however, has rear drum handbrake so it can be bad to use.

@@einfelder8262 yep, tail shaft hand break is great for that. What patrols have those? My GU, zd30 didn’t have one.

@@andrefischer5025 Pretty sure every ZD30 GU has tail shaft handbrake. And every other GU except TB48 which has slightly bigger front brakes and rear discs with handbrake shoes in them. Mine is a ZD30 CRD.

Yeah happy hour and they set their winch truck up the top to recovery 4wds if necessary, don't want people driving it whenever they like as its a pretty sketchy hill
