Why are there yellow AWS magnets on a branch which is completely unsignalled and the reductions in speed mandated by the PSR signs are so small? Are the AWS magnets there to ensure driver vigilance? What's the balancing speed of a Class 150 DMU on a 1:40 rising gradient (eg Hemerdon Bank eastbound)?

Brill video :) Any clue what the signs that look like Scottish flags mean? Not seen those ones before.

It means 'Acknowledge and disregard.' Basically for the AWS magnets. For one direction they are warning, but in the other direction they are not suppressed and can disregard the warning. When that is the case, we have the 'Scottish flag' sign. Temporary signs are black x on a yellow background.
