these cutscenes are the reason why this game required two discs due to how high quality these cutscenes is back in the day and loaded a lot of memory forn only one disc. And judging from the overall theme and them game itself, this was waaayyyy ahead of its time. Totally A Diamond in the Rough

silent hill 1 had the best looking cutscenes for ps1

Really love jerichos semi auto multi round double barrel, really nails that 70s movie feel of total unrealism

I know reboots are getting out of hand but I’d love to see the Driver series get a serious makeover with the same storylines and setting

To be fair, San Francisco was kind of a soft reboot for the series.

This game has an intriguing story. One youtube game critic compared it to a Steven Segal movie from the 80's. I love the dark gritty look of these cutscenes. Some great neo-noir detective stuff.

I remember staying up an entire night as a kid when I got this for Christmas. I was probably 11 years old

Tanner's voice in Driver 1 was much cooler IMO. Raspy, deeper, mysterious with a much more confident, to the point attitude.

This game is crying out for a faithful remake

They should remake this game! Maybe a Driver 2 Definitive edition? I'd totally buy it!

All I want is a liveaction movie from this! It would be so frickin awesome! The story is solid and the pase and thrills are great! Offcourse the would need to add some more scenes since you play the driving missions and chase in between the cutscenes but man it would be so good!

I would recommend that you watch the Starsky and Hutch 1975 series, it has some similarities with this great childhood game...by the way, I always watched the series with my father

I know the gameplay itself is very basic and the gameplay graphics aren't great, but the storyline is what makes this my favorite game in the series. The plot, the locations/travel element, the music, the dialogue, it all went together so perfectly. It had all the elements of an 80s/90s action movie, with even some elements of Bond thrown in. And I felt like I was part of it. I remember wanting to be Tanner. The cutscenes are what really did it for me. I'd never seen anything that in depth in a video game before. The game had so much depth and substance. It's still my favorite video game I've ever played, even though it was also the most difficult. The Chicago Jericho Chase, Bomb Trucks, Find the Car and Chase the Gunman gave me and all my friends so much trouble! It's funny how we were all stuck on the same missions, and finally beat them around the same time. My cousin had to help me beat the gunman mission. IDK why in 2 and 3 they made the second to last mission the hardest. Number 1 had a decent storyline and missions, but was so annoying 'cuz you couldn't get out of the car. Number 3 had the best gameplay, but took a more darker and serious tone and I also didn't like that it ripped off missions from the previous games and scenes from 90s/2000s action movies like "Speed", "Fast and Furious" and "Transporter". Many people also complained it ripped off GTA too much. Pretty much everything after number 3 was an abomination, and we don't talk about "San Francisco".

Nostalgia for ever i remember as a kid playing this game all day and all night this game needs a rework

memories of childhood, always as if the scenes of the game hypnotized me, I simply magnificent this great game of ps1

i do as well. one of my favorite early multiplayer driving games. I would just drive around the cities of Chicago, Havana, Rio, & Vegas. Fun Nastoligia. I'm glad you enjoyed my upload by the way. How would you feel if i posted some Driver 1 and Driver 2 game-play at some point in the future?

It's funny how they said Tanner's car in Chicago is supposed to be a 1970 Oldsmobile 442, but in the cutscenes, it's a 2nd generation Firebird

in pre-release screenshots there was a dark blue or purple camaro like that in Chicago it was cut before release though

Excellent game, seeing this video made me want to play it again, it remembers childhood a lot; the games that I have so far in the ps1 emulator for PC are single disc, I hope I don't have problems with this since I have never emulated it on PC. On psp you could play the full game, but in exchange for that the cinematics of disc 1 concerning Chicago and La Habana were lost. Only fragments of them could be seen when loading the game, but only from disc 2.

I have vivid memories as a 7 year old watching cutscenes like 7:05 and dreaming about how cool it would be if you could see the inside of a car in game like that. I’d have lost my mind if I saw the graphics of today!

Comparison to Jericho from D2 and D3 kinda wild. My guess is that D2 Jericho is probably a young one, got put into the game by Solomon.

I know the Driver games and the sequels are based on the 1978 movie the Driver starring Ryan O'Neal and Bruce Dern, but what if they had a movie based on the games and Kevin Bacon could play John Tanner and Samuel L. Jackson could play Tobias Jones.. I even thought of Drew Carey for the role of Pink Lenny

If there was a live-action adaptation, I thought of a cast sort of like this: Paul Rudd as John Tanner Anthony Mackie as Tobias Jones Vin Diesel as Solomon Caine Jeremy Renner as Jericho Josh Gad as Pink Lenny

I hate that Jericho looks so different now.

I didn't enjoy playing the Driver series. But it is fun to watch.

I can't believe i never noticed @22:20 they used Formula 1 97 soundratck (Mirabeau). Then again, infogrames acquired psygnosis in 1999.... Nice touch that I'm just realizing nearly 25 years after :P
