Just a correction, in the video I said Toulumne National forest, that was a mistake, before Yosemite Park entrance you will get to Stanislaus National Forest Vista.. sorry about that. I was thinking of Tuolumne because Groveland is in Tuolumne and there’s a Tuolumne river and Tuolumne Meadows, so don’t look for Tuolumne national forest. 🙏🏻

I try to visit/hike Yosemite at least once a month from the East Bay. I really do love the drive up and got to drive up during the first big snow of Dec 18. Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, my. I am so glad this popped up. I've been missing Yosemite for the longest time. My husband and I took a day ride through Yosemite about 10 years ago as part of a California vacation. It was a quick hurry and see it as our plane was leaving the next day but I'm so thankful we got to see some of the park. My fondest wish is to visit Yosemite again. We've been to parks all across the country and most of them were beautiful but nothing took our breath away like Yosemite. Thank you so much for sharing your video. ~Sherrie in South Carolina

Took this same road into Yosemite national in January 2020. Flew my mom out there for her 70th birthday. We also went to Alcatraz, Muir woods and Lake Tahoe. Oh and the vista point just before the Yosemite park entrance called the Rim of the World is very beautiful as well.

Much prettier in October. The white top stone was absolutely beautiful to me. Go to Canada on a snowmobile if want to see snow. Or even Tug Hill in upstate NY during their peak season. Yosemite was the prettiest park in the west to me. But Petrified Park was close behind.

I'm going California this weekend but if not for the snow I would love to drive up there.

Yosemite in the winter/fall is underrated!

I was 11 when I first visited yosemite and it was covered in snow just like this and I felt it robbed me of the real experience I've gone back 3 times after during spring and fall and it was a different majestic experience..

Winter is nice at Yosemite, but Spring is unbelievable! Visit when there is plenty of water going over the falls. It is one of America's best kept although well known secrets!

the morning of 2/5 or 2/6, the snow line was at 2,000 feet. it snowed on the upper half of mt diablo, and mt tam was dusted at the very top. the satellite imagery of this event is extraordinary!

What kind of vehicle did you drive? Did you have chains on? Thanks.

Love the scenery !! Yosemite is So beautiful in the winter but I have always been too chicken to drive up to Yosemite because of the curvy roads and it’s only one hour from my home town 😬

How is the weather in december? I wanted to take a drive through yosemite but tbh. now i doubt that our rental car can do this. especially on summer tires. Any Tips? Thank you

Thatcher Thermite Hi: In December you have a good chance of rain and snow in high elevations. As far as I know, most cars have all weather tires and I have seen tons of small cars during snow season with tire chains. I think having the right chain is the key just in case you run into snow.

when do you put on the chains? before you get to the entrance or after going pass the entrace? I'm planning a road trip from the east coast to California with my front wheel drive hatchback next month and visiting Yosemite is just a lost of places to visit for me. i don't think I'll be able to do any traveling next year or years following so before the next year starts i want to do this Road and visit as many places as possible but also be as informed and prepared for this trip as I can.

Just make sure you have the right chains for your car. You put them on only when there are signs to put them on or if the highway patrol asks you. You can also tell by the snow on the ground so therefore, there’s no specific area, you just have to see the situation first.

Anthony Monterosso we came back a day early to miss the storm. They closed all the roads the day after we left. Cars were stuck for hours... but it was a really bad storm durning thanksgiving week.

Do we need snow chain to drive to Yosemite?

I've never driven in these conditions, I'm going to try it out. Do you have tips for not sliding off the mountains? Do I just have to go slow ?

You won’t slide off the mountain, just make sure you have proper chains if needed and drive slow and enjoy the scenery

Awesome video! Love it! Between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, which do you recommend is better for winter adventure? Which is safer to drive?

It all depends on what you wanna do. Tahoe is far more crowded in my opinion, and it also depends on which side the lake you’ll be going to. North or South? During summer I highly recommend Tahoe because you can do thousands of things, in winter your options are skiing. For me, Yosemite is the place to go during winter, the drive is easy.

@@parwezfaizi South Lake Tahoe. Snow tubing or snowplay for kids but not ski. We’ve been to SLT during summer and we loved it. Curious how it is during winter. But we also anxious about driving in the snow.

Tioga pass is closed during winter. Yosemite high country is quite remarkable though.

Pruthvi Chauhan I drove a Cadillac Escalade AWD, I carried chains with me but I didn’t have to put them on. Most 4x4 vehicles didn’t have to but must have it with them

@@ngirolkar I drove a 4WD Cadillac Escalade, I didn't have to put the chains on but they inspected my car to make sure I had them with me just in case. For 2WD vehicles, it was mandatory to put them on.

I think February is a good time to go but the best way to check the weather before you go, if it's snowing then that's probably the best time.

No I didn’t have to put the chains on, I only had to have it in the car. It’s pretty easy drive, the roads are wide.

In the winter it’s an easier drive (less steep) to go on 140 instead of 120. Especially for passenger car

41 is from SoCal 120 is from NorCal. Using the alternate entrance would add a lot of miles to the trip. The Merced (140) route takes you through the center but you lose the shorter diagonal from north or south and you still end up on the 120 for the steep climb. The 41 from Fresno actually has less climbing.

I live in toulmne county, it's nice having Yosemite in our back yard, if you flatlanders visit plan to visit us, pick up all your garbage when you leave, remember it's our home not yours, have a nice day!

We are from Costa Rica, we have a trip to SFO, L.A and Las Vegas. We want to do in one of the three days at SFO, Yosemite. The possible dates are January 18,19 and 20 which I think coincides with the Dr King holiday. What is your recommendation, friend?

Jose Luis ... Hi, I recommend you rent a 4WD vehicle and drive yourself and leave early in the morning. Try to go on a weekday rather than the weekend, it won’t be as crowded. If you leave around 5-6 am, you’ll beat traffic and this will give you plenty of time to stop all along the way as you may want to take pictures and just look. There are tour bus options but I don’t like that because you will be dealing with their schedule. Have a great time and send some pictures. Don’t forget to stop at the Ahwahnee hotel for lunch.

سمير no one to hire, but if you don’t know how to put the chains on, the police or the forest service officers may help you
