DRIVE FROM AKWA IBOM AIRPORT TO THE CITY CENTER IN 4K || NIGERIA

Ойын-сауық

This is a drive I made from the Aiport in Uyo to the city centre showing all that can be seen on the way to the city. The road is called Oron road and I believe it's the longest road in Akwa Ibom. I hope you do enjoy it. If you do, please give the video a like. Thank you

I noticed the city isn't as crowded and congested as Abuja, even though Abuja isn't yet as crowded and as congested as Lagos. Although it's getting there really fast. Also I didn't see any car or tricycle driving against the flow or direction of traffic compared with Abuja where drivers run the roads like there's no government in place. In Abuja, they drive recklessly against the flow of traffic like no man's business. With reference to the gasoline problem you made mention about, I just learnt this last Thursday the reason we're having scarcity and that the problem is primarily an issue in Abuja. Imagine having money in your pocket and still not able to get gas for your car. Same thing applies to electricity. This is the mess we're experiencing in the so called capital city of Nigeria. Anyway, thanks for the video. I forgot to mention the beauty of the city with regards to its Greeness. I hope you'll let us know if those street lights actually work. We look forward to more videos about Nigerian cities. Thanks

Beautiful Drive through vlog. The Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo was commissioned and opened for use on the 23rd of September 2009. This ceremony was used to mark the 22nd anniversary of Akwa Ibom State's creation from the Old Cross River State. This Airport has an MRO hanger (the first in West Africa), a parallel runway, and an international standard terminal building under construction. Those greenhouses are where the state government is planting tomatoes, Onions, cucumber, lettuce, pepper, and other vegetables. They also use those greenhouses to train farmers in the state on how to use greenhouse technology to grow crops. The Airport road is expanded from a dual carriageway to an 8 lanes express road, so the 8 lanes express road will empty traffic from the Airport into the 10 lanes Idongesit Nkanga Avenue (under construction) which will take the traffic pressure off the city centre. That old road that you're seeing is the old Oron road which the Airport runway crosses and was forced to close with the provision of an alternative route to Oron town which is that road the road signage indicated.

Nice catch. I've never been to Akwa Ijom or Cross River States. But from my geographical readings and documentary ilages watched since the 1970's and during the governance of Duke about these states, I concluded they are the greenest, sparsely populated and lowest crime rate in Nigeria. I grew-up with friends from these states in Ikoyi, Lagos. They're not trouble makers nor loud mouths. Although, from a neighbouring entreprising and gas riche State. But my prefered states of settlement and investissements will be both. They have rivers, coast line, best seafoods, seaports, good large roads, no traffic congestion nor useless agbero thugs, moreover, they're close to Cameroun. What else ! I traveled to many towns, cities and villages in Europe observing their built environnements. Watched from Switzerland.

Nigerian road contractors need to build quality roads with high quality road markings. Very sad... In 21st century still most of the Nigerian roads has no road markings. In the Netherlands the road markings across the cities here are really thick paints and it stay there for many years without fading. Many things in Nigeria need to be changed because it's very bad compared to some countries in the Southern and Eastern Africa.

  • @XY-rh3if

You hardly see road markings on Nigerian roads, how much more sidewalk. This is born out off corruption. The powers that be always find loopholes to pocket some change from the cost of awarding goverment contracts. They could easily subtract the cost of road markings or sidewalk from the official amount of the entire contract that is made public; thereby depriving the contractor of the fund needed to complete the road with road markings. Another reason is due to the substandard ways that most things are still done in this country compared with developed nations.

Don't ask this guy anything again. He doesn't know anything about Akwa Ibom. The road he's calling old community road, used to be Uyo-Oron Road. It was diverted when the Airport Road which was supposed to lead to Oron was constructed. The other side of the road was then diverted to Nsit Atai to Oron.

Expansion of the road is for the benefits of the rich and might. That road was was already 4 lanes, some area are 6 lanes and it is never busy, but the government choose to waste money when there is so much unemployment in the state. Akwa Ibom has the highest unemployment rate in Nigeria.

So building for the future is a waste of money Mr. Oversabi. Don't you know that if this road is not expanded now that this area is not completely built up that it will cost the government more funds to acquire the right of way in order to expand this road in the future when this area must have been completely built up, especially with the way Nigerians likes to violate building regulations by exceeding the limit to which they can go closer to the express when building? Sometimes the way some people reason out of sheer ignorance baffles me. The Governor has attracted several industrial establishments to the state and employment has been created, you don't expect him to completely eradicate unemployment overnight. You're here ranting out of ignorance with NBS over-bloated politically-motivated statistics. When there was no industrial establishment in Akwa Ibom State, the unemployment rate was not the highest in the country, but now that this government has brought a lot of factories to the state, the unemployment now grew to become the highest in the country is absurd and laughable. lt is on record that Akwa Ibom is among the top first 5 states with the highest Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) in Nigeria since 2015 to date. And within this period under review, we've come behind Lagos in the entire federation several times. Our lGR has grown from around 15 Billion Naira in 2015 to around 32 Billion Naira before Covid-19 without the government introducing new or additional taxes, and our GDP has grown from 11 Million USD in 2015 to about 13.7 Million USD at present, which is an indication that there's an increase in productivity and employments and yet you are here deceiving yourself. Akwa Ibom State is now number 6 on the list of top 10 states with the Highest GDP in Nigeria, moving from number 8 in 2015 to number 6 displacing Edo and Kano States to be at Number 6 on that table. you can do your research to confirm this.

For your information. It's not the government responsibility to create jobs. Government provide basic amenities and infrastructure for private individuals and businesses to create jobs and that's exactly what the state government is doing. Check developed countries, the highest employer of labour isn't govt but private businesses. Aks is creating enabling environment to attract this private businesses who will in turn employ individuals, thereby reducing unemployment.
