Drip Irrigation - Self Watering System for Plants | Self Watering Spikes | Budget Friendly
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hello Friends,
Welcome to 'My Little Green Space'.
This video is about drip irrigation using spike and water bottle.
To set up a drip irrigation system for a collection of potted plants or a garden of flower beds, self watering spikes are inserted into the soil and intermittently filled. Inserting them in the soil makes it possible for the watering system to directly access the root system and guarantee effective hydration with minimum water wastage.

I work in a pharmacy and deal a lot with mls, drops, and the like. I saw some questions concerning speed of drops and concerning time and what not. There are generally 20 drops (gtt) in 1 ml (milliliter). The unknown here is how much water do you generally give to your individual plants? A tomato plant outside will be very thirsty whereas an indoor plant not so much. So what you do is when you water your plant, figure out how many cups you use to water it. Let's say you water a certain plant with 2 cups of water or very close to 500mls. If you have a drop every 3 seconds (the rate), then that would be about 20 drops=1 ml over 1 minute. So, if you are water a certain plant with 2 cups (~500ml) then it would take 500 minutes or a bit over 8 hours to water that certain plant. Now if you were going to be away for 24 hours, then you can't turn off the dripper after 8 hours since you won't be home, right? So you'd have to decrease the rate (or make it drip slower) where it would have 1 drop every 9 seconds which is equivalent to 20 drops (equals 1 ml) every 3 minutes and if your plant takes about ~500 mls then that would be 1500 min/25 hrs (3 min=20 drops=1ml because it's 1 drop every 9 sec) x 500 mls = 1500 min/25hrs) Too much math?? Long story short, this plant would take about 1 day (close to 25 hrs) to water (2 cups of water) if you had 1 drop every 9 seconds. So a 1 liter bottle could water this plant for about 2 days; a 2 liter bottle could water this plant for four days. So, I guess somewhere along the line somebody would have to add a new bottle?
wonderful ❤
Thank you

Hi! Check if nozzle has hole. Could be a defective piece.
I have a similar one in India. It does not fit the standard bottles we have. May I know a list of bottles which worked directly?

Do you need to cut open the water bottle?
@MyLittleGreenSpace
Жыл бұрын
Hi ! It is not mandatory. If you cut open the bottle, it will be easy to refill. Else, you will have to remove, fill water and place it back. Hope this helps!! Happy Gardening!! 🌿☘️
Any idea how many days 1 ltr bottle will last at the slowest speed?

I suspect it would depend on the drainage of the soil, size of the pot, temperature, sun versus shade, etc. This calls for extensive scientific experimentation, in other words, some good old fashioned trial and error. 🧐🤨🤔
Why to cut 1/4 bottle ? Can it not possible if we cut little of bottle from top to poure water in bottle ? Please reply.

Yes, it will be fine.
How much should i keep the speed?
@MyLittleGreenSpace

Hi! It depends on the nature of the plant. Few plants would be heavy drinkers while others are not. Please adjust the speed accordingly.
How much does each one cost?
