Drilling and Installing a 212m Deep Vertical Geothermal Loop

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video we have a 25t drilling rig in our garden drilling a 212m deep hole for a Geothermal Loop. The loop is connected to a Bosch Heat pump and will be our future heating system in the house.
The first 90m was mainly sand so two pipes was used. An outer casing and an inner drill pipe. When solid ground was found they continued with only the inner drill pipe.
The mud/chipped (lime) stone was removed using a high flow of water the was recirculated from a 20' container using a 7.5kW pump. After the drilling was finished most of the volume in the container was filled with sand and mud. We used ca 75m3 water for the project.
After inserting the loop they with some difficulty removed the casing and closed the void with bentonite.
Some 15years earlier we made new bathroom and pluming. I a bright moment I decided to put some empty pipes under the concrete floor and all the way into the lawn. They cam in handy now when we needed to connect the loop with the heat pump inside the house. So only a small part of the tile floor had to be removed to locate the opening.
l
The system was filled with 25% IPA as brine.
The heat pump used is a 4-16kW Bosch 7800i
Data logger is husdata.se H66

At 13:30 driller forgot to rotate tricone bit (upper head is not rotating). No wonder he had a problem at the end 28:30 to extract casing pipes. Also, he should engage 1st gear to reduce rotation speed and increase torque when pull out casing pipes. Looks like the driller is a freshman. Dangerous.

I would like to know the cost of the drilling

It’s expensive ! I think we paid ca EUR 20000 ex VAT. However it has worked really well during this winter-also in periods with very low temperatures

This answers most of my questions. The only question I have is, after drilling about 250 feet deep I see that you’ve connected the geothermal from the top spot into the basement. Is that not loosing heat or cold temperature before getting to your house? Are you able to trim the cable at least 6 feet down to maintain and prevent freezing? And then take the pipe into your basement?

for ur question they fill the pipe with special fluid to keep the heat. Its a reverse of refrigerator.

IS CEMENTING NEEDED in geothermal drilling ? like this one in the video .

It’s a local requirement. It is to separate different layers of ground water. Other cities may have different rules.

actuelly its not 100% cemenet its a meture of bentonate n some amount of cement...its called in Germany Demmer. But its very important to isolate the loop from the drilled wall.

You should talk about ground based not geothermal. Ground based uses the constant temperature that you find at shallow depths. Geothermal uses the heat radiating from the earth core at greater depths.

here in europe its called geothermal, not onlly for shallow depth..it can be drilled up to 1500m. Collecting heat from under ground, it can be also steam water from volcano.

@@xFlavoriax Calling ground-based heat geothermal is a new fad. It just sounds more exiting, but leads to confusion. How do you distinguish between the heat sources but through names. Geothermal heat, I mean heat radiating from the earth core, is not connected to vulcanoes only, it is everywhere if you drill deep enough. In tectonic areas you just have to drill less deep.
