I remember those clackers. They were declared dangerous and were taken off the market. The acrylic plastic balls would sometimes shatter upon striking each other and small plastic parts would fly in all directions. Maybe a child or two lost an eyes because of them... Also, I can't count the times one of the balls hit my finger joints. It was very painful of course, but we didn't care. It was part of the fun :D

Probably spinning that forstner bit too fast. Might burn the rim and the work, particularly in harder wood.

How about PAINTING wooden balls? What's the best way to bulk paint wooden balls?

When i was a Boy i have hat this Kind of Balls. It was called " ClickClack ". You can not buy the " ClickClack " in Shops. We don't have then in Germany. So i have to build the " ClickClack " for my Son now. My Son have to be attation at his Hands when he wann playstation with the " ClickClack ". This will hurts like hell when it hit his hands ....... Greetings ........ :-)

It's easier if the string is stiff like a rod.

Mine never broke and I was very rough with mine I use to throw them at the jungle jim so they wrapped around the bars.

unsafe! don't the ball could move while the drill was spinning if it caught something thing hard in the wood

I would not really suggest to hold anything with your bare hands under a drill
