I show you how to make a mobile Drill Press Stand with drawers and a door for storage.
Let's face it, we all need extra storage for tools and equipment in the workshop. This project is made up from plywood and a few piece of poplar for trim. It's a great looking piece and and excellent project to test out a few techniques before making something for inside your home.

    When installing drawers top/ down, use the same technique by turning the cabinet upside-down.

    Casual Builds that's the best kind! Haha. I'd like to use more Baltic birch for mine, but I have to drive almost an hour to get it, so I typically get the cabinet grade plywood from Home Depot. Not much more than the BC sanded ply, but looks a lot nicer, has more plies, and seems to be better quality.

    Yeah, I've used cabinet grade too, it does the job just fine! There's something about Baltic Birch that is just so nice. Luckily there's a lumber store 10 mins from where I live that does free delivery. Really helps when you don't have a truck!

    Something nobody seems to utilize, the slot holes in the drill-press foot. They are there so you can mount and move the press front to back. If you extend the floor of the stand out the back further creating a shelf, you can strap in long stock for end drilling by swivelling the drill-head around, loosening the bolts in the slots and sliding the press back, retighten. Various clamping/height devices can be fashioned to hold stock. Press stand only puts the press stand out a few more inches off the wall. Also use the long cubby created to store long-ish press accessories, fence and stuff.

    Nice video Tim! Found you through Reddit. 100% go out and pick up the Kreg drawer install jig. I'm finishing up a new dresser for our bedroom that has eight 30x20x6" drawers and the install went so smoothly. I'd also recommend picking up two of their auto adjusting clamps if you have the budget for it!

    Casual Builds Looking forward to it. Hey....technical question for you. If I only have the money for one item, a planner or a joiner, what should I get? I’m thinking joiner but I don’t have experience with either, so I need to ask an expert. 👍🔥

    This is a popular question within the woodworking groups I'm in on Facebook and the answer is usually planer (it's what I did). There are ways you can get boards flat using jigs on the planer and edges clean on the table saw.

    My solution for the drawers would probably be to flip the cabinet upside down. Install them that way then flip the whole thing back over

  • @WhiteLabWorkshop

  • @joedance14

    Nice looking drill press stand. Very nice! What are the dimensions? Need to build a stand, but I have restored an old 13”, 16 speed drill press. It weighs about as much as our canoe (80+ lbs) and stands about 4’ high, so the stand would need to be real strong and the top of the stand would need to be a few inches lower. Thanks.

    This is a nice build. Can you turn the whole thing upside down and install the drawers that way? That way the top drawer becomes the bottom drawer and you can space them with shims etc

    @3:22 Part of the plywood isn't touching the table. Aren't you concerned that the warp of the plywood means you aren't getting a 90 degree edge after cutting?

  • @CasualBuilds

    @CasualBuilds

    3 жыл бұрын

    I was wondering if anyone would notice that haha. I honestly think it has to do with the non cast iron part of my table saw not being entirely level. After that cut, I made sure to apply pressure to the plywood that was touching the flatter part of my table saw. Everything ended up square and true at assembly.
