Thanks Mike. Like many beginners, I too thought a forstner bit would be fast for hollowing end grain, but I was wrong! Always appreciate your videos - keep them coming.

Thanks Mike. I've been looking at at some metal machining videos and I have been interested in the centering drills for woodworking (not just turning). Now after watching this, I've got to get a set. Only thing you didn't cover in this video, is the length of the spirals in a twist drill. The longer spirals may wander more because the drill has to go further into the wood before it is making contact with the wood all the way around the hole. I never even looked at the spirals before, but after watching the machinist I looked at my collection of drill bits and I noticed that the center bit in my hole saw has really short tight spirals for keeping it centered.

That is news to me, maybe because I am not a machinist, LOL.
Mike, thanks for always having informative and interesting videos. Keep up the great content.

I've been using forstner bits for starting the holes in my cups. They get red hot and things start smoking. Now I know why.
Very good information. Spade bits do have a role in turning - they are inexpensive and can easily be ground down to make specialized turning tools!

Sorry. Another thought. After soaking the join in a solvent, rap on the side of the extension with a wood mallet to try and free it up.
