A BRIEF HISTORY OF DRILCO
In the early 1940s, before there was a DRILCO or a Smith International, Inc., an engineer with one of the nation's leading oil tools manufacturers took a personal interest in the problems of drilling contractors. The interest of that engineer, Stanley C. Moore, led to the founding of DRILCO and guided the company to success.
DRILCO Oil Tools, Inc. was formed in 1953 by the merger of Drill Collar Service Company, Morris and Blount Tool Company, and DRILCO Engineering Company. The group was based in Midland, Texas, with a secondary shop in Snyder, Texas.
In 1967 DRILCO became a division of Smith International, Inc., and in 1974, DRILCO moved its headquarters from Midland to a 50-acre site in Houston, Texas.
