Drift Car Suspension Setup - How It Works! (Everything You Need To Know)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

One of the most common questions I get is how do you setup a drift cars suspension, coilovers, sway bars, alignments, tries, etc. So we go in depth and explain exactly how to setup a car for drifting.

you're way too underated as a youtuber man. You have fire content , sick builds and very very informative videos. It's actually not that common to find a youtuber that does all that and actually knows how to properly explain how stuff works. Thanks for this video Taylor I learned a lot from it

Man, I was just looking at the comments on a video of drift cars warming their tires on Hot Rod Magazine's IG. Even with Forsberg explaining what's going on they're still saying "But it's understeering. It should be set up to oversteer."

Great explanation. Being able to effectively communicate a technical topic with out coming off douchey and with out using a bunch of jargon shows you have a high level of experience and knowledge of the topic. Well done, I subscribed because of this video EDIT - and TTTTYT is funny and you should run with it Another EDIT - Props for also being able to do this while basically talking to yourself, its so easy to get lost on tangents and stray from the actual topic while explaining technical stuff you're passionate about.

Thank you! This was a really nice comment to read I’m glad you liked it. I’ve wanted to do videos like this for awhile because I know how little I knew when I started out and I’ve learned so much over 8-10 years of doing this from a lot of great people and if I can help someone jump the first few steps of trying to figure it out it gets them driving and progressing faster.

Great video man! Your videos are always super informative, definitely going to watch the coilover vid. Its crazy how tuning in video games has taught me, through trial and error, all of the things you've explained here. Its also interesting to explain to people not used to drift tuning that you essentially set it up for understeer characteristics, which is counter-intuitive initially. (hard front, soft rear springs, stiff front A.R.B., soft rear, etc). I also like to run toe out in the front, helps at full angle with those situations where you may over rotate, to get it back (backies etc) Cheers!

Super informative and not boring either! Which can be a hard task to accomplish; well done! I'd be interested to hear you talk about the other suspension settings like dampening and preload/rebound as well. I threw my coilovers in my Z three years ago and haven't touched them since other than ride height and dampening so I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!

Brilliant video man, its something I've asked you about before so thanks for taking the time to make this! Specifically having the comments on what each adjustment actually does for the cars feel which is the main thing I wonder about! More in this series would be awesome if there's other stuff you could do, even doing welding? Main things being the things you learned that you found make huge improvements in your welding as you learned. For me it was an autodimming helmet and watching the weld pool to really gauge penetration which I figured out myself as no tutorials I watched had even mentioned this. Overall I'm loving the videos, please don't go too commercial like Adam :(

Great info Taylor, thank you! I don't know if you noticed this or not. The gold flake in your car causes all reflections to be yellow. It makes me think of the grassroots Japanese drift cars with yellow headlights. When I was young I wasn't a fan, but the have growing on me. I seen a video of guys drifting Dodge vans in Japan. One of the vans had yellow headlights. For some reason or another I feel in love with it. Maybe you should tint your headlights yellow. I think it would look good with your paint.

Insanely informative! If you were looking to setup a car for (non competitive) drifting, but also drive to events, would you find the perfect drift suspension setup and soften it by a %? Or would something like the bc ds series be a happy medium? *I ask because I'm looking to pickup a drift car soon, but will have to drive it to events and have had back surgery. I can't really handle a 4 hr drive + drifting + another 4 hr drive on an insanely hard suspension anymore 🥲*

If any of you want to test what will happen if you change certain set ups, use a racing sim or forza even. Want to see what negative camber in the front will do to your car? Max it out on forza on a car that you've driven, take it on the track and see how it reacts. This will at least get you in the ball park of how things will react while under load and at different settings. Taylor, I wish I could pick your brain about suspension all day lol.
