Drift Car Suspension Setup - How It Works! (Everything You Need To Know)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
One of the most common questions I get is how do you setup a drift cars suspension, coilovers, sway bars, alignments, tries, etc. So we go in depth and explain exactly how to setup a car for drifting.

"Tech talks w/Taylor" Should be a series.
you're way too underated as a youtuber man. You have fire content , sick builds and very very informative videos. It's actually not that common to find a youtuber that does all that and actually knows how to properly explain how stuff works. Thanks for this video Taylor I learned a lot from it

ttttyt, i love this, im saving this video. Please make more ttttyt, make this a series, i dont care what you talk about, just teach me stuff, i could listen to you talk for literally hours
this is probably the best drift alignment video out there!
I don’t think there’s a better person to explain this then you, your experience, knowledge and explanations are so great! So glad we finally got this video that really showcases that and helps me and I’m sure many more people learn!
I just had a discussion with someone yesterday that insisted you didn't want grip in the rear for drifting. Thanks for the in depth breakdown! You were able to vocalize what I was not.

Man, I was just looking at the comments on a video of drift cars warming their tires on Hot Rod Magazine's IG. Even with Forsberg explaining what's going on they're still saying "But it's understeering. It should be set up to oversteer."

I am sure that everybody is on their garage at the moment trying to fix their suspension set up. Great video Taylor!! Greetings from Greece!
Great explanation. Being able to effectively communicate a technical topic with out coming off douchey and with out using a bunch of jargon shows you have a high level of experience and knowledge of the topic. Well done, I subscribed because of this video EDIT - and TTTTYT is funny and you should run with it Another EDIT - Props for also being able to do this while basically talking to yourself, its so easy to get lost on tangents and stray from the actual topic while explaining technical stuff you're passionate about.

Thank you! This was a really nice comment to read I’m glad you liked it. I’ve wanted to do videos like this for awhile because I know how little I knew when I started out and I’ve learned so much over 8-10 years of doing this from a lot of great people and if I can help someone jump the first few steps of trying to figure it out it gets them driving and progressing faster.
Liking the nerd info, I already know what most of the terminology, but I like talking about specific setups and tech stuff. Great vid Taylor, keep up the good work
Great video man! Your videos are always super informative, definitely going to watch the coilover vid. Its crazy how tuning in video games has taught me, through trial and error, all of the things you've explained here. Its also interesting to explain to people not used to drift tuning that you essentially set it up for understeer characteristics, which is counter-intuitive initially. (hard front, soft rear springs, stiff front A.R.B., soft rear, etc). I also like to run toe out in the front, helps at full angle with those situations where you may over rotate, to get it back (backies etc) Cheers!
This is one of the best videos I've watched on youtube, thanks so much Taylor! Keep up the great work. Learned a ton from this, as someone genuinely interested in learning as much as possible about suspension and theory.
Super informative and not boring either! Which can be a hard task to accomplish; well done! I'd be interested to hear you talk about the other suspension settings like dampening and preload/rebound as well. I threw my coilovers in my Z three years ago and haven't touched them since other than ride height and dampening so I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
Definitely more videos like this! Good job!
sooooo underrated this man is so smart learned so much from this vid
This is intense! I am working on my first LS Miata. I have so much to learn. Thank you!
Loved this video on how you explained I definitely took notes watching to remember can’t wait for the coilover video 😮👀🚘💨
Best video yet! Watched and rewatched every second of it, if I could like it 100 times, I would. Make more
Great video Taylor extremely informative! I vote for more of these particularly your Z specs.
Brilliant video man, its something I've asked you about before so thanks for taking the time to make this! Specifically having the comments on what each adjustment actually does for the cars feel which is the main thing I wonder about! More in this series would be awesome if there's other stuff you could do, even doing welding? Main things being the things you learned that you found make huge improvements in your welding as you learned. For me it was an autodimming helmet and watching the weld pool to really gauge penetration which I figured out myself as no tutorials I watched had even mentioned this. Overall I'm loving the videos, please don't go too commercial like Adam :(
Everyone hit that like button and get Taylor all the traffic! This video is so informative and awesome!
Taylor Thank you for having videos over 10 minutes!
Excellent video mate - super informative, do more of these knowledge blasts!
Awesome man. Glad you found the issue. Tons and tons of great info. Thanks for sharing.
Great info here! Also the bind in the steering shaft makes a lot of sense cause that restriction is multiplied by the hydraulic advantage.
Loved the video. Very knowledgeable and informative! 10/10 would watch more like it
Thanks for this info!!! Im going crazy getting my 350z how i want it...i love you long time for this one man!!!!
Great video man, thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep it up.
This makes me so wxcited for the next drift day.
I like this kind of videos thank you!
Good video man. Chasing grip in my S15 at this moment and this helped . Cheers !
Good content bro. You made it easy for non tech background peeps to understand. Keep it up!
I cannot tell you How HAPPY I Am to Hear This!!!!!!!!
Wow, great explanation Taylor. Thanks for that!
TONS OF GREAT INFO MAN! VERY WELL DONE!
Please do more of these videos it's so helpful and I learned alot
Awesome video thank you I love this sort of stuff
Congrats for the awesome content! 👏👏Drift driver from Brazil
Awesome video man!
I'm happy you found the source of friction in your steering. I'm setting up by BC's on my IS300, this is great help, thanks.

Smh. This should have more views. Nice work man!
literally everything I been spitting knowledge to my little brother that wants to get into this life Good shit dude to have on the webs
Great content as always
Absolutely loved it! I don’t drive a car that’s capable of drifting(ep3), but, I have a hand full of friends that love the sport. I continually watch your feed just to learn a new aspect of the car game. Thanks so much for the content. #letherriptaterchip
Tutor Time With Taylor is my favorite time.
Excellent video. More of this please.
Exactly what I wanted to find for a while now, thanks for the information! Edit: (Subed!)
Great vid bud! Will be watching it again for sure, probably while lying under my car working out what the hell i’m doing 🤦♂️
Good info, learned a lot bout drift setup
Great video. Way too much bolting on Parts and not enough making them work properly going on in amateur Motorsports. Great work explaining.

You ever been to autotest/gymkhana and so on?.... Nobody ever shares their technical knowledge and "secrets". Now compare to sports, say going to table tennis and you will have 10 people telling you how to improve, technique, muscle memory etc...
Waiting for coilover video now :D very very very interested in valving !
So much good info 👍
Great information thanks 🙏
So happy you fixed it man. Time to rip it.
this is gonna help me tune the pro cars in AC so much better
Super useful info. Thanks
Great info Taylor, thank you! I don't know if you noticed this or not. The gold flake in your car causes all reflections to be yellow. It makes me think of the grassroots Japanese drift cars with yellow headlights. When I was young I wasn't a fan, but the have growing on me. I seen a video of guys drifting Dodge vans in Japan. One of the vans had yellow headlights. For some reason or another I feel in love with it. Maybe you should tint your headlights yellow. I think it would look good with your paint.
I love the detailed stuff
Snappy snappiness 😂 love it
im just sitting here taking notes superb content! subed right away
the opening was def funny bud i got a giggle out of it
All the gripz!!!
Please TTTTYT series!
Great info 👌👌
Gonna need an off seasons type edit from you with the Miata
I learned today :)
Sweet thanks I was going to ask for a vid on this on the Miata... I didn't and you delivered anyway🤔
As in depth this is, I am surprised you never talked about steering acumen, and how it can affect handling. Great job explaining how it all works though, very helpful.

I think you mean Ackermann! But yes, a mention of that would have been good.
🤯 ... awesome dude
Thank you Taylor!!!
I just switched to 14k rears on my M3, it has a horrible ratio of like .42 so my 14k rears turned into ~6k. balanced well with the 8k fronts at .9ish!
can you show how you would align it on the track with "basic" alignment tools? great video!
Great info!!! Do you think you can give some info on setting up damping on coil overs?
Love your videos Taylor - Thanks for providing us with such great content!
Insanely informative! If you were looking to setup a car for (non competitive) drifting, but also drive to events, would you find the perfect drift suspension setup and soften it by a %? Or would something like the bc ds series be a happy medium? *I ask because I'm looking to pickup a drift car soon, but will have to drive it to events and have had back surgery. I can't really handle a 4 hr drive + drifting + another 4 hr drive on an insanely hard suspension anymore 🥲*
Here in my garage. Knowledge.
For the old subs... IM TAYLOR RAY AND THIS IS CLUB BRAINDEAD!!❤❤❤
TTTTYTYT: Taylor Tries To Teach You Things on KZread.
So beautiful
GREAT ! Was please for 35minutes even if I did the same tutorial video myself. Little things that make your experience even better! Just a kinda noob question, When you say a quarter inch of toe or else, where do you measure it physically?
Now I can have sick set ups on my cars on Car X drift racing lol
So much info my head herts
Awesome vid!! 🔥 im starting drifting and i don’t know where i can go to practice. where do you go??
been watching for so long man, my brother and i watch the vids all the time, love the work man keep that shii up !!

Also I am editing together my first video right now and I seriously want to thank you for talking to me at formula drift Seattle last year. You were super cool to talk to and made me feel like you can still be a sociable human being while being a youtuber. Don't really know why I felt that way about the concept of being a youtuber but basically you inspired me to make videos so I can eventually make my hobby and what I love doing into a career. Thank you Taylor Ray for being as cool as you are and making such good honest content.
Toe in also helps with going straight..
Get a Mechanical engineering degree bro, awesome info, will have to watch it a few more times to grasp the knowledge. Use a whiteboard in later videos to help explain.
I always like toe out in the front, I feel like the car turns in quicker.
Keep up the hard work man
Did you make a video on that front sway bar mount spacer?
I smell a TTTTYT merch incoming
Would increasing the compression dampening (if externally adjustable) assist in the intial front drive?
So If you need to add spacers to the front wheels to clear stuff does that change motion ratio by a lot or is it still pretty close to .7?
G'day mate. I have a question. Here in Australia.... Home of the metric system we still rate suspension springs and valve springs in lbs per inch of compression. How does that match up to what ever system you guys use?
What are you thoughts on air suspension for drifting
Who makes that badass helmet you got there sir??
Thoughts on removing or disconnecting the front sway bar on a bone stock E90? Car feels like it has a lot of understeer.... I know I know, I need to upgrade everything, but as it currently sits for a free mod, would removing the front bar help me?
Closest drift track? You boys ever been ta MEXECOOOOE?!?
can you do advanced suspension? like when and how to adjust dampers? or what do i adjust when car nice and smooth but snaps into big angle easy and drives shitty when at big angle where is drives really good when at shallow angle
If any of you want to test what will happen if you change certain set ups, use a racing sim or forza even. Want to see what negative camber in the front will do to your car? Max it out on forza on a car that you've driven, take it on the track and see how it reacts. This will at least get you in the ball park of how things will react while under load and at different settings. Taylor, I wish I could pick your brain about suspension all day lol.
