Great video as always. I am always amazed at the size of those machines compared to their bucket. I know the bucket is large and can get places other excavators can't, but the bucket seems so small compared to the machine.

There's weight up front, counter weight in the back, and then everything in-between/over/under has to be beefy enough to handle the stress for 40-50 years (or more). Just look at Silver Spade/Muskie/GEM of Egypt and all of those, there's a reason they weren't really in service for all that long vs this 1981 Marion. Because they were actually UNDER BUILT to the point that people that worked on them say that at the end of their economical use they were more weld than original steel.

I haven't been out there in about 25 years but they are In the bottom of Shenandoah they set up a big drag line to clean up all that unspent coal enough to power the country for the next 1000 years I'm sure

They took the hoist drum out and put it in the 7450 that's in Centralia and we got theirs now it is noisy and has a vibration . like the videos keep it up jay

That looks like one of the machines at the company I used to work for had it was the only one that I knew of that was ever converted to Trail cable most 7450 had V 12 EMD engines in them

Compared to the 30 yard 1150B bucket we have on display in Hibbing that one looks maybe a little bigger. 35 or 40 yards?

Hi from Portugal Have you seen any of those Dart wheel loaders(the one with the cab on the side) operating? I remember when I was a kid watching those Darts and Wabco mining trucks and at the time some Euclid mining trucks; I don't thing they were Terex back then(80'). You make awesome videos telling the story of old equipment and if you could make one of that wheel loader it would be great! Thank you All the best

After further "investigation" I saw that you've put a picture of one in Facebook some time ago! By the way those euclids were old back when I saw them working in a quarry in Sines-Portugal. The request is still up anyway! Thanks

A new cut would be starting at the surface and working down to the bottom coal seam, hence what you see here, he's just starting to strip the clay off

I wonder if that thing ever steps on it's own power cable and what happens if it does.

@Benjamin Beytekin - Construction Machiney & More Machine is operating at a reasonable speed. We have to consider that this dragline was manufactured in 1981. This unit has been working for 4 decades. And obviously the technology is dated compared to the most modern draglines of today.But even more significant or relevant to your question are the forces involved with this machine. With all very large draglines or hydraulic excavators you will notice they don’t operate at high speeds. Attempting to do so in certain situations could rip the machine apart. The forces developed would be enormous.However the very large excavators and draglines are highly productive due to the heavy payload capacity and long dumping radius.They also have the ability to work in extremely tough digging conditions.

Thanks and do u travel all over the usa like I'm up in Ontario Canada near Toronto. If you were to go up highway 10 towards orangeville cox construction has a big one like that a d there's a few pits out that way with some big big drag lines if I find out I'll let u know

@Ripp It All Out Yes this machine is Electric powered. I believe all walking draglines are electric. There are many crawler draglines around the world that are powered by diesel engines. I remember reading about several very large crawler draglines working in Australia about 20 years ago. I’m not sure what the power source was on those units.

Thanks guys! Most modern walking drags are electric, however many of the older smaller units could be equipped with diesel power, such as this unit!
