Art Go They wont do a sequel I dont think unless you heard something I did not, Dredd lost money I thought, will they bankroll another? I thought it was great but I heard only bad reviews and criticism before I saw it.

krashly71 Hey, no I meant "i hope fir sequel", have no idea will they do it or not. The film got 7 on IMDb, which is a really good score. There are plenty sequels for movies with marks lower than Dredd has.

It's sad how movies that don't deserve sequels become franchises, while gems like this don't get the respect it deserves.

Such an epic movie. It deserves much more respect than it garnered in the press and ticket sales. The acting is top-notch, a simple yet elegant plot device, and amazing cinematography. It may not have made a lot of money or been given the respect it deserves at this time, but I have a feeling that subsequent generations will find a hidden gem in this masterpiece.

The problem with the movie was the iconic helmet of judges likely looked silly to the people that never saw the comics or were fans beforehand

Problem was Adi Shankar gave the fans what it wanted what it deserved, mainstream Hollywood wasn't feeling it, plus, reliance group in India would had a jump off the way liongates had with the Saw. Hollywood black balled it. It's coming as a series in 2019 hopefully Netflix. Adi doing great with CastleVania on netflix.

I saw a similar comment, watched the movie, loved it, now I showed it to my family, they also loved it. This movie is awesome and I really hope more people see this movie. All this is to say that I agree with you mate.

After watching Karl Urban as Dredd, why would ANYONE think that Ben Affleck should be Batman?!?! It boggles the mind that they didn't get Karl. And why do we have to endure multiple Transformer movies, but they don't think Dredd 2 would be successful?!?! Hollywood is packed full of idiots!!!

Karl Urban would be a good "Batman" but he is too brutish to be a Bruce Wayne. Maybe an older Red Hood. Shoot would probably do great as Deathstroke

Its not fair that The expendables have two sequels but Dredd don't!

Absolutely right, it's a masterpiece. The music gets only a mention, but I think Paul Leonard-Morgan should have been nominated.

When I hear this song, I can just see Dredd walking out of Peach Trees like it was just another day. Another bust. Badass.

You do understand that Dredd is a satire right? That the Judges are a literal fascist Police State, where the cops control absolutely everything, the citizens have almost no civil rights, Democracy is considered a form of Political dissidence and Dredd is a living avatar of an oppressive and uncaring state, that would happily keep stomping on mankind's face with an iron boot if it meant keeping control?

This version of Dredd is just purely awesome. Karl Urban did an incredible job. I just wished they gave the character design the iconic huge judge shoulder pads.

wasn't practical for his job lol. he a cop. plus kind of of hard to fight with huge shoulder pads, but he did have pads on his shoulders tho just smaller.

In terms of comic book movies... this is definitely in my top 10. Controversial, but it's a lot higher than "The Winter Soldier", which I honestly found to be okay at best. Karl Urban, proving he has the chin for Batman. Oh, and the acting talent, too of course :P And... the slo-mo sequences are amazing.

Dredd is a movie which becomes more awesome as it gets old. Just like aged wine.

I recently watched the 90s one with Stallone. And I have to say this.... This one with Karl Urban is a million times better, it doesn't fucking feel like a silly videogame adaptation at all, and doesn't have the main character saying finishing lines in a cringy way.

This movie was badass. I'm not even gonna lie. I like it better than Fury Road. Oops..

1:44 It gives law and order a new look, a look that says the law will fuck you up no matter how powerful you think you are. I imagine Dredd taking on Darth Vader just hammering him with some brutal melee moves knocking him back dealing justice.

Oh how I miss 2012/13. All the good films like this were new and everything seemed fine. Now we're lucky to get 1 a year of this quality and definitely getting nothing good this year with the lockdown.

What an appropriate name for someone to play Dredd. Karl, it reminds one of Karl Marx, as in the Dystopian Mega Cities kind of remind one of a futuristic version of Soviet Russia (not communist, but you know, authoritarian technocratic police state) and Urban. Well I don't have to explain Urban=Mega City.

Yeah that is true. So that is why I don't think it's fair to compare the two movies. If Stallone was not held back by trying to make the first movie less violent and aggressive then I think he would have made it really badass. After all the first movie was more interesting.

When you rediscover a remix 5 years later loving it only to realize you've been here 5 years ago, loving it :D

In the comic Dredd has to follow a book of law, although Judges are judge and executioner, they can't just kill you for a minor crime. There's a list of charges for each crime that can be taken.

I just watched 2012 Dredd. Despite of being a critical person who likes pointing out mistakes, and also a man of culture - or at least considering myself as such person - the only thing I said after the show was: "And that's a f***ing good movie."

Well in the comics Dredd did initially kick Batman's ass. Although Batman did eventually save him.

It's judgement time

This movie put me off when I saw it in the theater, I felt it was lurid and had no plot. It has grown on me and I think it's better seen on a smaller screen. Total props to Urban for doing the role RIGHT without showing his full face. And Olivia Thirlby was the perfect match for her character from the 2000 AD series. It's grown on me, big-time. Plain, no shit, no-frills, balls to the wall movie. One of the classics and I was wrong on my first assessment. Oh well, at least I bought a ticket!
