The most metal Dreamcatcher gets is in their Japanese songs, but the influence is still there for quite a few of their Korean releases. No More, Endless Night, and Don’t Light My Fire are their most metal songs and Piri utilized metal instruments. Much of their old music is heavily inspired by jrock music, but Scream (and Piri and Deja Vu to a lesser extent) is when they really started to experiment with their title tracks by fusing other genres with rock/metal. In Scream’s case, it’s a hybrid of psytrance and rock that was made in response to fans’ positive reception of their bside Silent Night. As far as I know, Dreamcatcher haven’t yet utilized metal screams. It’s very rare in kpop, but Guerilla by ATEEZ, Poison by Pink Fantasy, and Mama by EXO are the few songs I know that have.

Thank you for the Dreamcatcher reaction. The dystopian trilogy (Scream, BOCA, Odd Eye) is about hate messages and cyber bullying. Dreamcatcher continues to change their sound. Dreamcatcher's dystopia series has less of a rock sound and mixes it with other genres. You may hear more of the guitar sound in other songs.

Gahyeon is the lead rapper and the one who you pointed out as the elegant one. She is the maknae (youngest). btw all seven members are excellent vocalists.

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point. About a month after Scream they released "Endless Night" in Japan, which is a lot heavier. And they did a self-made and hilarious MV for "Sahara", where you can even see them headband. Consider this a request for these two songs. 😊

I love seeing what HUGE DORKS these girls are. They have such powerful stage presence when they need to bring it, but are buttheads when you see them in their personal lives. It makes me feel great to see the other sides of these performers. Thanks for the comment!

I wouldn't describe Gahyeon as elegant. She goes back and forth between being very cute and being very seductive. She's known for her facial expressions. Jiu, the leader (purple hair in this MV) is a very elegant dancer and has a high sweet voice. Handong (Chinese member) is also a very elegant dancer, but she isn't in this video or in Boca, the sequel. You'll see her in Odd Eye, the third part of the trilogy. There is a lot of duality in this group and they really can't be pigeon holed. They're all skilled dancers, vocalists, and actors. They can do whatever is required of them. You'll find this out as you learn more about them through their Vlogs, Notes, Vlives, and other off stage material about them. There's a lot on their YT channel and there's a dedicated fan channel that has a huge amount of behind the scenes videos. www.youtube.com/@insomnicsy

Hey! Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher's Scream. I wanted to provide some context for the group, song, and answer some of your questions. Sorry for the information overload. Their Sound - Dreamcatcher are genre benders, throwing multiple musical genres into each track title track and delivering on all of them. The instrumentals have evolved and grown from their debut in 2017 with their initial sound consisting mostly of pop (or K-pop) vocal melodies with heavy influences from J-rock instrumentals. While their use of vocal melodies has stayed mostly in the K-pop realm their sound has changed and evolved over the last 6 years with each title track showing a different style or sub-genre of rock. Their newer releases tend to incorporate more Electronic & EDM productions with a lot more experimentation in sound design. Their B-sides tend to be more focused with each song on an EP or Album being from completely different genres at times. R&B, EDM, Rock, Jazz, Reggae, Trap, Trance, and much more show the diversity in Dreamcatchers discography and the vocal agility of the members. All together there are close to 100 songs in their discography now including Intro's and Outros which are instrumental pieces. Their Lore - Dreamcatcher are a very lore heavy group, some of which you read about during your research. When they first debuted, they came out with a horror concept called Nightmare. This storyline, the Nightmare series, spans 6 Korean title tracks and one additional Japanese release that is an alternate ending to the story. This is also where each members representation of a fear or Nightmare was more impactful. They've had two other main storylines since the Nightmare series ended. The Dystopia Trilogy, which starts with Scream and the Apocalypse Trilogy, which starts with Maison (French for Home). They also have several special releases and title tracks that are not tied to an overarching storyline. Their Lyrics - Dreamcatcher's songs tend to speak to ideas larger than what a typical pop song would touch on. Each of their 3 main storylines have tackled different issues but the main overarching themes for each of them are as follows. The Nightmare Series - This series tackles the expectations that society puts on us, our fear or loneliness, of failure, of depression, and suicide along with other tough subject matter. The Dystopia Trilogy - This trilogy is about social media and the false illusion that it offers to people, online bullying & persecution, hate speech and more. Scream is the title track from Dreamcatcher's first full-length album, Dystopia: The Tree of Language which came out in 2020. Scream was also the first title track to include Electronic & EDM influences so heavily. To date, it's probably their heaviest use of those influences in any of their title-tracks. The MV shows the Tree of Language and its corruption which leads to people forgetting how to say good things. This is similar to a Pandora's box opening and seems to be alluding to social media. There's also imagery that invokes a witch being burned at the stake which fits with the themes of online bullying and persecution. The Apocalypse Trilogy - This trilogy focuses on more existential threats to humanity. Only two of the songs have been released so far but they focused on Climate change and War. The Members - There are 7 members, though one, Handong, was missing for Scream and a few other MVs due to being in China for a reality show called Youth with You. She then got stuck there due to Covid travel restrictions. There are, unfortunately, no metal screamers but all of the girls are gifted vocalist and there are 3 rappers. The 7 members in order of age are. Jiu - Leader, Lead Dancer, Lead Vocalist. Purple hair in the video. SuA - Main Dancer, lead rapper - Girl with the sword, she doesn't rap as much anymore and didn't rap in this song. Siyeon - Main Vocalist - the one who showed up on screen and you said, "speaking of gorgeous." Handog - Vocalist - Absent for scream, Chinese member. The member that probably has the most elegant parts. Yoohyeon - Lead vocalist - blond member in the video. Her and Siyeon are typically the ones who do all of the power vocals and background vocals. Dami - Main Rapper, Lead Dancer - The one who had the aggressive voice. Her singing voice is very light and airy which is an interesting contrast. Gahyeon - Lead rapper, vocalist - She's the one who you asked about being the more elegant member. She didn't start rapping until 2019 but she's become the member who raps most behind Dami. Recommendations Since you've started with Scream you could go ahead and finish the Dystopia Trilogy. These songs would be Boca (mouth in Spanish) & Odd Eye If you want some of their more metal influenced songs then Endless Night, Don't Light my Fire, & No More would be a good starting point. These are all Japanese releases. On the Korean side of things, the songs from their Nightmare series are probably going to be next heaviest with Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High, You & I, What, Piri, & Breaking Out (which is a Japanese track). These are in order of release; not how heavy they are. Some of them are less so than others. Also, Vision, which is their newest release is pretty heavy but it's more darksynth\synthwave influenced. I look forward to seeing you react to more of their content.

After years of rock and metal I discovered this group last year and was an incredible surprise. I also saw them live and was one of the best concert of my life (and I saw hundreds of metal and rock concerts!). You can hear more metal sound in songs like Vision (their last comeback), the Japanese songs (endless night, No more) and other songs too are hard rock. But they have also jazzy songs, trance, trap, drum and bass, also punk rock in Beauty full, a Dami's song (she is the same rapper with the low voice in Scream, and I love her). You are from U.S. right? Yesterday they start the tour in U.S. and the setlist was f***ing incredible!.

The nightmare/fear was for the first arc that Dreamcatcher did. It’s called the nightmare series and in capsules 6 Korean music videos and 1 Japanese music video which is an alternate ending to the series. Nightmare: this series focuses on a jrock sound so has the more heavier rock elements in their songs. Chase Me (debut song) Good night Fly high (MV story is actually a prequel to this series but came out 3rd) You & I What Piri Breaking Out (alternate ending) After that they did the Dystopian trilogy: Scream Boca (means mouth in Spanish) Odd Eye Then we are on the apocalypse trilogy: Maison (may-zon it’s French for home) Vision (Part 3 not out yet) They did two stand alone songs called BEcause and Deja Vu. Both have their hard and soft parts. Deja Vu is a slow song with a hard chorus and is a fan favorite by most insomnia (fandom name). Hardest rock sounds to date: Good night You & I What Piri Tension Mayday Break the wall Vision (has more cyberpunk so a much dirtier sound) Japanese: Endless night No more (I would say this is probably their hardest song to date) Don’t light my Fire As for the most elegant member. I would say that’s Handong. She isn’t in this video but you’ll see her in everything else besides Scream, Boca and Endless night since she couldn’t be here for those.

Thank you for reacting to Dreamcatcher & the first part of Dystopia Trilogy (Scream, Boca & Odd Eye). Musically, Dystopia Trilogy is a mixture of EDM & few Rock subgenre. Dreamcatcher have 3 separated universe/ theme/ storyline for now which is The Nightmare Series, Dystopia Trilogy and Apocalypse Trilogy. Most Dreamcatcher's main/ title track actually sound different from each other. SCREAM: a fusion of Psytrance & Rock in the chorus. If you listen carefully, there's a guitar riff in the chorus, but the riff is so low, almost resemble Metal riff...you only can listen to it in the official instrumental version. dreamcatcher \:D/ it would help if you turned on the english cc ;) if you are trying to understand the song a little more. the dystopia trilogy(scream, boca, odd eye) is a lot more electronic than rock compared to their other title tracks. that's because the theme is how 'dystopian' the internet/social media can be. in any case dreamcatcher isn't metal; if someone recommended dreamcatcher as metal, it's probably a kpop fan who doesn't really listen to metal ;). they are primarily a vocal focused pop group, but they take musical influences from all genres throughout all time periods. yes they are known for infusing rock/metal aspects into their title tracks but it's more rock/metal elements than what a metalhead would call metal song. most would classify most of their title tracks as pop-rock, but their discography spans across all genres. they do have a japanese track 'no more' which is essentially metal instrumentation throughout, but imo it's far from their best song. I'm old school rock/metal and when I want to listen to metal, I listen to metal. that's not what dreamcatcher is about. as you listen to more of their songs, you will see what I mean and how they have been able to convert musicians and even metalheads to a genre they never thought they would even listen to. you can try other songs that are more rock oriented like 'chase me'(pop-rock with classical instrumentation), 'maison'(industrial rock), and 'endless night'(hard rock).

With the English captions on, aside from knowing more what the song is about, it also has their names labeled. The whole members representing nightmares doesn't apply to this song (Dystopia Trilogy), it only applies to their first series, The Nightmare series. Scream and the Dystopia Trilogy is about hate speech and cyberbullying through a series of past, present, future videos. In Scream it's the past with Witch Hunts.

Dreamcatcher's earlier stuff has more of the rock/metal cues than their more recent stuff; ironically, the pulling back on the hard stuff as of late might be to break into the Korean market. The nightmare stuff was their schtick during their re-debut. The first seven or so songs were their "Nightmare" series with an occult theme in a running storyline for the series. However, the group is quite versatile and they do a lot of different things in their B-side tracks. In their most recent album, the lower-voiced rapper, Dami, went with pop-punk vibes for her solo track.

Their japanese stuff are more "metal". Endless Night, No More, Don't light my fire. But overall they are a pop group with rock influence in their songs. Not all songs, but several, mostly in title tracks. Do not expect Jinjer, Fallcie or even just Babymetal level of metal. After all they are a kpop girl group. :-) Or you can try their early stuff, Chase Me, Good Night, You and I, or even a few bside like Tension, Wake Up, Mayday, these are more rock, pop-rock. But keep in mind, Dreamcatcher is a pop girl group, not a rock band. :-) So expect some rock in pop, and not a full blown rock anthem. :-D Dami, the deep voiced rapper also the one in the group who can reach insane heights with her vocals. You wouldn't believe how high she can go. :-P

The dominant rapper, Dami, went viral for what she did in the sequel to this m/v, called Boca. It's also my personal favorite rap from the pair of Gahyeon-Dami. Scream is about bullying, the pain piled on to the point that devil eyes come and the bullied person turns into someone that causes pain themselves; "please I don't want to scream" turns into "I just want to make you scream". Boca is about hateful comments; with the context that in the year before they started this trilogy three separate idols committed suicide after a flood of media and public hate. The last of the trilogy is Odd Eye about seeing through the lies that come with social media.

There's a lot to unpack here. I'm going to try to not throw a big wall of text at you so it's easier to digest. 2 rappers, one with the mask (Gahyeon; gah-hyawn), the other in the brown dress (Dami; dah-me) right after the one with the mask and in white towards the end of the MV. The other members, in order of oldest to youngest, are... JiU; Gee-yoo (purple hair) SuA; Soo-ah (with the sword) Siyeon; She-hyawn (started the bridge wearing the lace headwear) Handong; Hahn-dong (Not present, see other comments) Yoohyeon; Yoo-hyawn (Blonde, second singer) Dami and Gahyeon are the two youngest members. Scream is more on the EDM side than rock / metal. While there is always at least some rock/metal elements in their title tracks, it's prominence kind of comes and goes. Some songs will much more rock/metal to them and others, like this one, will have much less. Just keep in mind that, at the end of the day, it's still kpop. There will also always be that pop core to their songs. Also of note, their b-sides encompass a wide and diverse range of genres, including but not limited to rock, jazz, electronic, ballads, R&B and even a little reggae thrown in for flavor. In my (not-so) humble opinion, Dreamcatcher is one of the most versatile groups out there. The fandom name is InSomnia, which translates to In Dreams. The Nightmare lore is heaviest in their first 6 releases, Catch Me (debut) to Piri. Later releases, like this one, are less focused on the nightmare aspect. They do, however, have common themes running through their releases, which tend to come out in threes. Scream, for example, is part of the Dystopia trilogy which addresses online hate, cyber bullying and the dark underbelly of social media. Boca (Spanish for mouth) and Odd Eye (one of my faves) are parts 2 and 3 of this trilogy. The latest trilogy, the Apocalypse trilogy, addresses the environment and, in general, how we're screwing up our planet. Maison (French for home), Vison (another fave) and an as of yet unreleased third song make up this series. There are also a few standalone songs / MV's that don't fit into a series, but we'll figure those out as you go along. Again, trying not to too throw much at you at once. On a side note, while they're performing they are a group of badass, super talented women. Off stage, they're a group of chaotic, funny, loving life, humble and at times very adorable girls. Dreamcatcher is the very definition of 'duality'. There's a truckload more information I could throw at you, but I won't. Too much info up front is just confusing. I'll let you get a bit more comfortable with the group, then we can start getting deeper into them.

Pronunciation Guide: Dreamcatcher's names are actually really easy if you remember all the vowels are ee, oo, or ah (excpt the O in Handong) and Si is pronounced "she". JiU jee-yoo, SuA soo-ah, Siyeon she-yawn, Handong hahn-dong, Dami dah-mee, for the other two names say an H in front of the yawn for hyawn, Yoohyeon yoo-hyawn, Gahyeon gah-hyawn. It only sounds weird when people strain to pronounce it just so, relaxed and slightly imperfect sounds natural and fine (they don't even say each other's names perfectly each time).

Welcome to the Dreamworld. Im sorry. Scream is one the greatest by Dreamcatcher. But it is not the greatest in introducing the metal/rock side of Dreamcatcher. Scream/Boca/Odd Eye are in different genres, different stories. What you should be introduced to when talking about Dreamcatcher being the face of rock is their debut song, Chase Me and the subsequent songs Good Night, Fly High, You and I, What and Piri. These are of one story where they are the fears, the nightmares. Their japanese songs are actually heavy rock/metal. Breaking Out, Endless Night, No More, Dont Light My Fire, Eclipse. Overall, every title songs have rock/metal influenced, not entirely. We call it, Dreamcatcher genre. I hope you enjoy your stay. And hope you stay here forever. Bahahaha..

NeraSomnia is right. The Metal sound was easier to hear in their older stuff. I bet you would hear it immediately with their debut song, Chase Me. AND, yes, the Japanese Language tracks are WAY heavier because Japan LOVES Rock and Metal. Korea is stuck in our 1950's at the moment, making DreamCatcher and every Rock or Metal band seem like the Black Sheep of the industry; glanced at, glossed over, sneered at and ignored for the most part. Too bad for the typical Korean. They have no idea what GREATNESS they are missing out on.

I've been experiencing problems with captions and I forgot to do it on this video. I didn't realize at the time how important the lyrics are to their songs. I usually listen to KPOP without knowing what they are saying, but this group is different. Their lyrics have actual depth and are telling a story. Would you say ENDLESS NIGHT is one of their most metal songs? That's what I'm going for on my next reaction. I love this group already, but I'm looking for their most fierce metal track.

Yep! Endless Night is one of their hardest songs, this group is gold and I'm pretty sure that they'll be legends. Latelly there are more groups and songs with deep message, so to really know them is necesary know what they say. They could surprise you. So... I'm from El Salvador and a proud Insomnia, welcome to the family

Again, I wonder how some fans always simplify by saying Dreamcatcher is a rock/metal group, cause no, they are not... This statement is so often get the reactor down, because they have such a great anticipation for the heavy sound, but it turn out to be "still poppy"... Dreamcatcher is still a KPop group, but they consistently infused rock/metal sound in their title tracks and some of their b-sides... Me myself is also a metalhead, but yeah I really like Dreamcatcher's discography, they tend to mix different genres into one song is just so perfectly match with their styles...

I wouldn't say I was let down too much. I love KPOP and I think this group. Maybe this song in particular reminded me of the song GIRLS by AESPA. Which has some riffs in it. Thanks fo rthe comment!

@@the_talking_muffin I'm glad that you were not let down too much, and yes I can see that in your reaction... But I think there are some other reactors that have had a high standard with their anticipation from a rock/metal group/band in their first reaction... And when they didn't had that standard accomplished, they tend to "abandon" the group... For me, that is one lose for an InSomnia prospect, while we trying hard to spread dreamcatcher to the world... But again, I'm glad that you like dreamcatcher regardless... Keep the good work, stay safe, keep healthy, and have great days

It’s rock, not metal. Korea barely likes rock never mind screaming and monster vocals.
