Bookish Theories is excellent. I was lucky enough to come across the channel when she did her first Dreamcatcher analysis which was for Deja Vu. She has a very discerning eye for detail and imagery.

I think the concept of the video includes one of the central beliefs of traditional Korean culture. That is O-Bok, the Five Blessings. These are wealth, high status, a long healthy life, abundant offspring, and a painless death. In the times before about 1970, very few Koreans could ever achieve these things. They could only come as a Blessing from the Spirits. This is a Confucian ideal. Now that South Korea has become prosperous, since it turned to the West, the Spirits are no longer needed to achieve the Five Blessings. The people must and are abandoning their Confucian traditions. They've certainly abandoned having children, which is causing a huge crisis in South Korean society. But that is only one of the dangers of pursuing Western materialism. The younger generations are no longer following the Confucian ideals of status, hierarchy, and social roles, especially the role of women, so what will they replace it with? Koreans are working through this change right now and I'm really interested in where Dreamcatcher are going with this, and whether they have an answer. Materialism seems to end up in a puff of dust.

I've tried to watch that video before, but the accent and the lack of pauses between sentences were just too annoying for me. I'm glad I got to watch it with you now, though. It's very well put together and super informative. Sure, I like I a bit of lore, but this was way too much for me. Nothing wrong with easy stories imo 😅

It was a lot of rapid fire information, to be sure! I think it was super well put together, but yeah could have used a smidge of room for us to breathe and process all the information coming at us. I think done infrequently I like a story like this, one that really rewards sinking your teeth into it, but can kind of happily be understandable at the surface level too. It's just too much for me to follow as it's happening lol
