It’s against the fake images of influencers, look at Handong, it’s all beauty and shiny but below her waist her legs are full of bruises, the backgrounds are always changing, the fight when Yoohyeon falls is also fake.

I wonder why I heard no one talking about this before. I immediately saw it, paused, made it out as bruises and a message to accept you the way you are.

It's not really super obvious from the MV and definitely not obvious from the lyrics, but yeah, I've seen multiple good explanations that agree with you on this. This is meant to be a satire of modern social media narcissism, and it makes a lot of sense through that lens.

@@zibbitybibbitybop I think they were intentionally being subtle about it to reinforce the point. To chime in from a music nerd's perspective, the note choice, song progression and timbres also align with this theme of everything being two-faced/a façade, so I'd believe it

@@ZDubbed The melody line in the chorus is weird because it initially outlines a Cmin(maj7) chord, which is dissonant and sounds alien because it contains an augmented triad- It makes the whole thing feel a tinge off. On top of that, the entire chorus is initially very empty, which makes me feel like it's portraying some sort of shallowness/sparseness of character. The subsequent transition with Yoohyeon's belt (almost like being dragged in forcefully) introduces the second (louder) half of the chorus. This half does a lot to distract us from the same strange melody line (which is still playing if you listen well!). The timbral landscape here is almost hypnotic, with vocals being doubled at a lower register, but in a chant-like manner rather than singing. It's like we're being hypnotized, pulled in deeper and further away from the true nature of whatever it is that we're hearing. I think the final chorus being extra nasty, almost Nine Inch Nails-like in its timbre, is the culmination of this sinking/hypnotizing feeling. The chanting also reaches its peak right in this final chorus. All of this screams to me that things are not as they seem. The lyrics match this perfectly, we are told to stop questioning things and are given examples of the lavish lifestyle, the girls chant their positive affirmations, but the timbral landscape never loses that hint of ominous. I think Dami's rap gives us a few more crumbs in that sense, talking about drunk driving and asking us whether we feel like a monster yet. Of course, we'll have to wait for the follow-up to see if this is all true or not, but Dreamcatcher's songwriters have a track record of being good at intertwining their concepts in musical ideas, so I think we'll see some interesting plot twists in the next comeback.

You could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion. The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is actually the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up. The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback. It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

OOTD is the first of a two part-er. It’s supposed to be about the dangers of vanity/narcissism.

I see a lot of people confused about the "change of concept" and the lyrics, so I figured I would explain the context behind this MV. Before every comeback, Dreamcatcher always release a "mystery code" - a picture with hints about the future comeback. For this CB, the mystery code consisted of a whole ARG with an X account (ymenehcra99, who also appears in the MV in 0:48 and 2:35), documenting the descent into madness of the user, who was obsessed with "the crown". The person running the account mentioned doing things like spending lots of money on luxurious clothes, chasing a truck with the crown symbol and almost getting into an accident as a result, and they even posted an audio of what sounded like an alarm, as if they had stolen something; all that in order to be "worthy of the crown". This MV might seem flashy and superficial, but it's supposed to be satire about how things like the idol industry (and social media too) are not as glamourous as they seem at first, since a lot of what is posted is actually fake. It's also critisizing how some people are willing to do anything to be famous and get attention: buying nice clothes and faking a luxurious lifestyle (hence the OOTD lyrics being so narcissistic and so "generic" - they're playing as the "villains" who let fame and power get to their heads/won't stop at nothing to get attention - and Sua and Siyeon posing in front of cars and motorbikes around 0:27 and 0:40), staging fake drama (like Handong and Yoohyeon faking a fight in front of the camera in 1:32, only for Handong to help Yoohyeon immediately afterwards), or even editing their reality to make it look more interesting or appealing (see for example the very obvious green screen behind the girls during the dance scenes in 2:55, or the multiple photo/video editing references, like in the very beginning of the video). DCC really put a lot of thought into the concept, so it's a pity that many people don't have enough context to properly understand it. Hopefully this comment clears the confusion about the lyrics and concept!💖

The topic may be narcissism, but I think it is a criticism of people who live fake lives on Instagram or SNS. It's like living in a virtual space that is almost manipulated by excessive corrections that are different from the real thing.
