It could actually work! They might have to tune up a bit but he has the vastness of range that labrie(at his best prior to his ilness) has, just not as high of a voice

I love La Brie but man it's hard not to compare and not to be taken to a whole new level of emotion with Devin singing..

Devin phoning it in is still gonna be much better than most artists best performances on their best days. Nice of them to have Mike Kineally out there too.

DT should be DT's vocalist

I just love the respect they all have for each other. That was a bolt of positivity right there. Thanks for posting this!

That ending harmony. Its like they even played their vibrato in perfect sync. mindblowing.

Letting Devin sing instead of LaBrie was a mistake because now it's all anyone is ever going to want ever again.

I'm thinking they could resurrect old video and vocal tracks of James from his prime and play it on the big screen. James can still sing low notes - but for all the good power vocals they bring him back from the past for a moment.

Labrie will never leave Dream Theater because there is more that goes into that band than just music, they are all brothers and I'm sure they don't want to part ways with Labrie and it's respectable.

That was the best thing about DT the following night in Grand Prairie. The encore redeemed DT as LaBrie can't sing any more and mostly ruined their set. (The Mangini/Portnoy discussions aside, the rest of the band still sounds great.) Townsend killed it with his vocals during the encore. And Townsend's set was the highlight of the night.

Losing your voice is one thing, losing you ears is another. Labrie CAN hit the "right enough" notes to get through a show, but he instead keeps going off pitch seemingly intentionally, and it's tough to endure. Like he'll hit the right note but then suddenly jump up higher to a sharp off-key note for no reason. Maybe he's going deaf.

I also believe that Labrie is becoming deaf as well. He has never been perfect in a live performance, but he has never been this 'unlistenable'.

That’s was in Sugar Land I was there.

Who here also thinks Devin should be the new singer for DT?

Labrie’s ALWAYS had his haters. I’ve seen them live twice and he sounded awesome both times. Even if he has an off night here and there, at least he’s freaking singing, and you cannot find a single performance that is “horrible”, despite the endless commentary. YOU try singing for 2+ hours in such a crazy range. Devin is a great singer, but he’s not singing an entire Dream Theater set. I mean, I could come in at the end and sing one Dream Theater song really well, and then it’s downhill from there lol.

I've been a Dream Theater fan for 30 years. We all said that the band sounded good, would love to hear more instrumentalists.

Sad to say, LaBrie doesn’t sound like he used to, or maybe doesn’t sound good live. Wonder if he had some health/voice issues which may have impacted his performance.

Love this band but my God it's time for Labrie to retire from the live show. Both him and the rest of the band have to know it. Don't understand how a band so obsessive about their craft can just grit their teeth while their singer is off key for the entire show.

Right or wrong? Devin will replace James.

I wish I could agree, but after listening to Liquid Tension and going to Dream Theater, it took a while to adjust. It's still taking a while.

James should retire now, with glory, and not in 2030 not even capable to sing wait for sleep

It's a shame the singing is so bad. No offence to James but he should step down and retire with dignity.
