First time I saw Dream Theater was in OKC in a dive bar. They opened for Fates Warning. The entire crowd felt like a musician's convention. Everyone was studying.

Mike Portnoy does a video on this song where he TRIES to count out the time changes. He doesn't do so well toward the end. 😂

Dream Theater is what the classical composers would be writing today, should check out Petrucci in his solo stuff and with Liquid Tension Experiment

Basically by being talented, prolific, and fking disciplined, they started at college and they were just a bunch of guys obsessed with music and they just practiced like crazy every time they could, it's not that common in rock/metal bands where all the members are equally talented and hard working on their craft, hell it's not Even common in popular music at all
