Techno has a big brain. He is making money whilst trolling dream. He knows exactly what he has done.

I just love how when someone visits dream in prison. They just pity him, hate him or talk about everything bad he did. Meanwhile technoblade is just messing around trolling dream and asking him embarrassing questions.

Because the god could have teleported them into a lava pool or another prison and they would end up just back where they were. Omniscient beings usually don't want to mess with the universe too much so they can always just trick some stupid ape brains. Techno getting something simple meant that he and the god both won while dream gets to dive into the toilet.

Also he is being the most productive. He keeps asking dream for the knowledge of the book so he could escape easily. To trick the guards, get another wish, etc. Its just Dream holding them back.
